- 726bal_zsm0 contributions1 Day brought us closer to the Chinese ppl living and thinkingThis trip was a good choice to make! Our guide Annie was great, direct and she spoke well and understandable English. She knew a lot about Chinese culture and history. She could answer any of our additional questions like Japanese and Chinese art differences etc. By the end of the day we could get closer to the Chinese living and thinking. Wish we could spend more days with her at different cities but unfortunately we was just traveling by and China could not stay more.Written 10 March 2025
- X3752ENluisam0 contributionsGreat day!It was a very enjoyable day out. Ruby is very friendly and was extremely attentive and careful with us. We visited beautiful places and she explained the history and many other interesting facts in detail. It was a great experience.Written 7 March 2025

- JamieRobbins0 contributionsFantastic personalised tour of the cityWe had an amazing tour of Shanghai with Sammi. She made us feel comfortable with her friendly and open nature. She suggested some changes to the planned tour to suit what we wanted which worked well. The vehicle was a very high end people carrier and the driver was safe and steady - which the Didi (Uber) drivers are not. So that was great. The tour covers all the main areas. You don’t feel rushed and Sammi was great at answering questions and sharing lots more. Lunch was included and at a nice restaurant where we chose the dishes. Very happy and the tour was very much value for money. Thanks Sammi xWritten 19 February 2025
- Keepsj0 contributionsVIP with a personal touch, and top notch service beginning to end…Taking a tour with Shirley is like going to visit an old friend you never knew you had… She takes the time to listen to what is important to you, is a wealth of knowledge, and really tries to get to know you while sharing all about her home, Shanghai. We had 2 tours already booked and were lucky enough to have Shirley for both tours (we loved taking tours with Shirley so much we booked this tour for our last free day!) it was a VIP tour and we felt every bit of being treated like a VIP from beginning to end. Food choice was spot on, she took pictures for us (& pointed out good spots & times to take them too), let us know what was worth our time and energy to see, and most of all was always in a great mood and happy to be spending time with us. This was the closest to a personalized of any of the places my wife and I have ever traveled. Since we already had 2 tours with Shirley we said “you know what we’ve seen, here are one or 2 things we would like to see, what else do you think we need to see of your city? You decide…”. She did not disappoint! We saw temples, went shopping, visited the Bund, the art district, did a tea tasting ceremony, had an amazing meal, and more… I was actually surprised at how much we were able to see and still not feel rushed at all during the day! When we were shopping she took us to the best places to get what we wanted to look at/purchase and even communicated for us to make it seem seamless. We felt like locals in a place where it could have felt a bit different for a visitor if you don’t speak the language. The food choices she made were based on what we wanted to try (my wife is a bit of a picky eater) and we loved everything she chose for us. By the end of the tour we felt like we didn’t want it to end… But, this tour made the trip feel more immersive, like we really got to experience the true culture of Shanghai. Just a bit more magical than other places we have been thanks to Shirley. Overall, well worth the money and I would even say a bargain given the overall experience. Car service is excellent, Sunny is very easy to deal with and very responsive, and with Shirley as your guide will make this tour a once in a lifetime experience!!!Written 18 February 2025

This is a great tour touching on an oft overlooked piece of history for both the Jewish people and the Chinese people. Sunny is great at reviewing this history through tours of the Jewish museum and its collection. Along with walks through the 'bund' area of Shanghai, finishing at the harbor/waterfront.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and would recommend it highly to anyone, whether Jewish or not!! It enlightens historically the period of pre WWII and WWII just how much China stood up for basic freedoms/dignity when the rest of the world didn't

Sunny our guide on this private tour of the Jewish Ghetto and the Bund included a detailed visit of the Shanghai Jewish Refugee Museum, the ghetto area, the park dedicated to the stateless refugees and then the bund was truly wonderful. Sunny is knowledgable and patient allowing us time to read and discuss exhibits within the museum. At the Bund she pointed out many of the historic buildings, their different architecture and took us to the Fairmont Peace Hotel, the original office of Walter Sassoon a Jewish Refugee.
Sunny arrived punctually at our hotel to pick us up and we truly had a wonderful 3-hour tour. I highly recommend this tour and this guide.

This was a special, memorable tour providing a window into a time in Shanghai that most people - Jewish, non Jewish, and Chinese - would otherwise be unaware of. Annie met us at the hotel, and after 3 weeks touring China, we immediately recognized her enthusiasm, friendliness, and great command of English. This was matched with her deep knowledge as she took us through the ghetto, the museum, and the Bund/Peace Hotel. It was fascinating to hear her perspective as we learned about the story, conditions, and plight of the 20,000 or so Jews, mostly from Austria, welcomed by the Chinese, which allowed their lives to be spared. Most left before 1949, and their story has come back to light in this fascinating museum, and through the eyes of our passionate and truly wonderful guide Annie. This is a must see in Shanghai for everyone.

We had a wonderful tour with Mason primarily of the Jewish museum in Shanghai. The museum is a real gem, recently renovated and enlarged, and beautifully tells the story of the 20,000 Jews who were protected from the Nazi death camps in Shanghai during the war. Mason did a great job explaining what life was like then for these transplanted Jews and made it even more special with the stories of his grandfather who lived in the ghetto with the Jews. A very worthwhile and inspiring tour while you are in Shanghai.

Went on a solo tour with Miss Sunny Xie, she had an excellent repetoire of information during this tour about the nature of the Jewish community and it's life in Shanghai and how it grew. This includes some local heroes and personalities. A really very interesting tour with translations in both English and Chinese. Miss Xie is very enthusiastic about the subject she presents and also took me on a walking tour to further explore the streets and lives of the Jewish community that came to Shanghai. A very supportive person with transport and directions being my first time going to this museum in Shanghai. I would strongly recommend this tour for others considering. As a teacher the museum couldn't be more helpful with information and contact details for future trips.

The tour was a revelation - I was unaware of the hospitality that the Chinese people had offered displaced Jewish people during WW2. Our guide Sunny gave us some insights into the city on the way to the museum and was very knowledgeable about the museum and the wider WW2 / Jewish / Chinese context. A walk around the area to points of interest was nice then off to the Bund. Al in all a very worthwhile and value for money tour with a great guide.

Our tour guide Aron was truly fabulous, his wealth of knowledge and history was beyond exceptional. I had a relative who came to Shanghai from Europe and to really understand what she lived through was a cathartic experience. We met the Museum Director and felt his passion and commitment to this time in History. If you are Jewish or interested in this time capsule of the past this is a MUST do tour.I highly recommended this tour .

This tour was fantastic - Sunny was so knowledgeable and personable. The museum was very interesting and well thought out (very much worth a visit), and then having key buildings pointed out and hearing the backstory was really informative.
Sunny was great, she was happy to answer questions and share what life is like in Shanghai too. Would highly recommend!

This was an excellent tour of the Jewish museum (much enlarged since our last visit to Shanghai before the pandemic). Sunny accompanied us but did not rush, adding dimension to what we saw in the exhibits. After the museum, we requested to walk through the Jewish neighborhood and she pointed out architectural and historical aspects to observe. We requested to go to the Sihang Warehouse Memorial Museum. Sunny accompanied us by Didi to ensure we got there, and she assisted in getting us to the correct entry before bidding us farewell. Sunny is an informative, service-oriented guide and we heartily recommend her.

Do you have pickup/dropoff at the cruise port?

We were on a private land only tour. We were met in the city and driven on the tour. I'd guess that you could arrange to be met at the cruise port.
