- M854QDkatherineb0 contributionsFun cooking experience the time flew by and Chyl is such a nice personChyl and her colleagues were extremely welcoming and the food preparation area was set out thoughtfully and had all of the equipment and food items we would require for the session. There was plenty of opportunity to maintain hand hygiene which I found really positive coming from a healthcare background. We were led through the steps of preparation and cooking and gently steered in the right direction to ensure our dishes were authentic and delicious. Myself and my partner were not new to filippino cooking however we found it very informative and we left knowing our skills have been enhanced and we will continue to utilise what we were shown when we are cooking back home. In summary an excellent experience for all abilities and great to meet more of the lovely Filipino people - thank you so much!Written 28 November 2024
- 507dextert0 contributionsA Heartwarming Feast at Grandmom Oyette and Grandad Bong'sDining at their home was a delightful experience filled with love and authentic Filipino flavors. The crispy fritters were addictive, while the creamy ginataang langka and flavorful bistek bangus stole the show. The refreshing buko juice and comforting miswa soup added balance, and the tangy adobong baboy na puti was a unique and delicious twist on a classic. Each dish was prepared with care, making this meal not just a culinary treat but a warm, unforgettable family memory. Truly, a feast to cherish if you wish to experience homemade Filipino cuisine around a warm family table far from the tourist hubs.Written 26 November 2024
- 988marku0 contributionsA Heartwarming Filipino Feast at Grandma Oyet'sIf you want to experience a true Filipino Salo-Salo or shared meal, Oyet's house is the place to go. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed like family. Following Filipino tradition, we left our shoes outside and wore slippers indoors—a simple gesture that made the experience feel more authentic. We were greeted with warm smiles, handshakes, and stories as they served buko juice and a sweet potato snack that looked like chips. They talked about their home, family, and how they learned to cook their delicious dishes, setting the perfect mood for the meal. The main dishes were unforgettable. They served adobong puti (a version of adobo made with vinegar instead of soy sauce) and bistek made with milkfish. Delicious! The bistek had a refreshing twist with milkfish, and the adobo was less salty but rich in traditional taste. Every bite was a delight and I enjoyed savoring the complex flavors. While we ate, they continued to share stories about their lives, history, and even asked about our families. The warm atmosphere made the meal even more enjoyable, and before I knew it, I had eaten more than I planned! We left with full stomachs and happy hearts. The food was amazing, but their hospitality made it truly special. Grandma Oyet's house is more than a place to eat; it's a place to feel at home. Mark UmapasWritten 26 November 2024
- Guide298713666170 contributionsMust do in ManilaJian was a fantastic, knowledgeable guide. His enthusiasm was unwavering as he took the group through Chinatown with delicious food that we would never have discovered without him. He also accommodated all dietary requirements, going out of his way to make sure people could sample everything. Highly recommendWritten 7 November 2024
- sambY9021IY0 contributionsAmazing experience!Amazing Chinatown food tour. We loved every stop, the food was delicious, and the tour guide was so informative and easy to talk to. We learned a lot, not just about the food but about Philippine culture as well. Highly recommend this tour!Written 5 November 2024
- AshAlexandre0 contributionsA Chinatown FeastThis tour has a 5 star rating for a reason! I ended up being the only person on my Manila Chinatown food tour, but the guide Chloe made it feel like I was being taken around by a local friend. All of the stops are well thought out and feature hole in the wall spots that I wouldn’t have ever visited if not for this tour. Definitely book this tour and be sure to come hungry!Written 26 October 2024
- 212Jorgebr0 contributionsAwesome experienceGreat food, awesome experience. I would definitely do this tour again. We also tried amazing fruit which I’ve only seen in the Philippines.Written 20 October 2024
- Y9890UVsabrinao0 contributionsDelicious food and great guide! This tour was one of the best food tours I've done in SE Asia - Chloe is super knowledgeable about the origins and history of the different dishes we tried and establishments we visited. The tour included a wide variety of dishes and snacks to try and it was really fun to explore Chinatown, finding both popular/well-known spots and those that were a bit more tucked away. Definitely recommend this tour for solo or family travelers!Written 6 October 2024
- K6617FPheidis0 contributionsAmazing Filipino cooking experienceI had a great time with the hostess Chyl. We made Lumpia, Turon and Pancit Bihon. An enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. The food was very delicious and certainly very plentiful. Chyl was a fantastic hostess.Written 3 October 2024

- Chad K0 contributionsGreat food with some historyFood was great and got a nice history of the area. We had about a dozen different kinds of cuisine at various restaurants and street vendors around town.Written 3 September 2024
- Matthew B0 contributionsGreat experience! My wife and I did this tour while visiting Manila on business. It was a great experience although we weren’t expecting the sheer amount of different things we were able to sample! All of it was wonderful and we especially enjoyed that we were able to visit some very small family-run places that we probably never would have found let alone visited during our time in Manila. The variety of foods was good as well - we’re fairly adventurous eaters but I think the options offered would still be suitable for more picky tour participants. In my experience, it’s always a good sign when you’re eating at a place that is full of locals too, and that was certainly what we saw throughout the tour. Our tour guide Chloe was amazing and was full of great information about the history of Manila and of the Chinatown itself. In all, we’d certainly do it again and will recommend it to othersWritten 30 August 2024
- BettyB690 contributionsAmazing Binondo Food TripIt was a fun, informative and a gastronomic experience. It was amazing and bery satisfying to find hidden food gems in Binondo. Chloe was also an excellent story teller, making the entire experience memorable.Written 25 August 2024
- BANZAI V0 contributionsGreat cooking class for the afternoon!!What a really fun class! I am so happy I was able to do it! Very informative and very hands on! She teaches prepping and then actually cooking spring rolls (Lumpia), Turon (banana rolls, and Pancit Bihon (stir fried noodles!)Written 21 August 2024
- Jaini F0 contributionsThe best traditional filipino foodWe had a great experience. Tita Oyette made several really tasty home-cooked meals - which started with a refreshing drink made with cucumber and lemon. A lot of food was prepared for our meal including misua, fried milkfish with atsara (a filipino pickle made with labanos, cucumber and vinegar), mixed vegetables cooked with coconut milk, our favourite beef steak, and palitaw for dessert. It was fun to have a conversation with tita oyette because she shared a lot of trivia and stories about the dishes she prepared. These foods are all authentic Filipino and each dish is made with a lot of natural and healthful ingredients. I would highly recommend for those who want to experience authentic filipino food.Written 12 August 2024

We booked this tour after reviewing hundreds of Tours on Trip Advisor, with hopes of sampling local street food in Manila. We also watched many youtube videos about Street Food with Jian, as the local guide in Food for Social Media Influencers. We are glad we booked with Explore Manila. Chloe and Nel were excellent tour guides in answering my many questions on Filipino food and local history..
Shout out to Jian for putting this tour together!
To add to the adventure, we also did not cancel in the midst of Typhone Kristine (The rain and winds will not stop us from filling our bellies).
First off, the Starbucks meet up spot was easy to find using GRAB, which was a great restroom spot and GRAB drop off and pick up point.
We started our tour taking a Trike (never been on one, but wanted to) a local spot to try filipino dumplings and BBQ skewers. We were served an assortment of skewers, all so tasteful and we even made our own Filipino dipping sauce ( Cane Sugar Vinegar, Soy Sauce, Calamansi & red peppers). The filipino BBQ sauce is so delicious, it puts USA BBQ sauce to shame. If you have never tried Filipino BBQ, you will be missing the explosion of simple ingredients of flavors in your mouth. I can eat this everyday.
We also sampled Fried Egg Rolls, Chicken and that ever so popular Fried Banana Stick, which sell for $3.00 USD in Los Angeles, but for fractions of the price.
We went to a Bakery also.
We took a short Jeepney ride to another local spot and sampled even more food.
I don't want to ruin your taste experience so I will not provide what is offered (but you can request at the end of the tour a list of all foods sampled), which was definitely more than the 10 items promised.
If you are worried about the walking, there were no cracked sidewalks, no walking for hours, this felt like a short stroll for us.
There is also an additional restroom stop at the restaurant close to the end of the tour.
This is a food excursion you don't want to miss out on.......plus no tourists!
Now we feel like expert local food eaters....so we will be planning to return to Mandaluyon to eat some BBQ.

We enjoyed the tour with our excellent guide Chloe. Everything was well organised, Chloe was at the meeting point on time and took us to various examples of Philippine cooking, including small shops and street vendors. She was also very friendly and informative regarding any questions we had on Philippine food and also on Manila in general. We also had the opportunity to try riding in the motorcycle sidecar (short distance) and one of the buses (jeepney). Overall it was a great way to understand and sample some Philippine food and learn more about the city. Think the tour took around 3 hours total and by the end we were very well fed - we would recommend making sure that you are hungry at the start!

One of our travel group's favorite traditions is to book a food tour on our first night in a new location. This allows us to learn about the traditional food options that we might otherwise never try, and we usually find a favorite item or restaurant that we return to later. Needless to say, our street food tour with Explore Manila Tours was the perfect start to our vacation in the Philippines! We started with some delicious pork and shrimp siomai (dumplings) and gualaman drink, ventured on to a food stand to try a variety of grilled meats, sampled some some traditional Filipino desserts made with cassava, enjoyed a variety of fried food options, and tried two of the local Filipino beers... And that's not even everything! Our tour guide, Chloe, was so kind, informative, and easy to talk to. Not only did she teach us about the food we were eating on the tour, she gave us recommendations for other restaurants and dishes to try, answered many of our questions about the languages of the Philippines, told us about the city of Manila, and so much more. I would highly recommend checking out this food tour while visiting Manila. Just make sure you come with a big appetite and a willingness to try new things! Be prepared to spend about 3 hours on the tour and wear comfortable shoes for walking. Reserve your spot today - you won't be disappointed!

Jian, our tour guide for the Food Introduction tour in Manila, was absolutely fantastic. He took me on a culinary adventure, introducing me to a diverse range of meats and local cuisines from authentic food vendors. Jian's extensive knowledge and passion for the local food scene made the experience even more enjoyable. His ability to navigate through bustling markets and share captivating stories about the vendors and cultural significance of the dishes added an extra layer of depth to the tour. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Manila and looking for an unforgettable gastronomic experience.

Jian was our tour guide and he did a phenomenal job in providing knowledge behind Filipino Street food. This tour is a perfect blend of different types of Filipino food and highlights some of the classic dishes. We truly appreciated Jian for his pace of the tour, as well as additional details behind some of the city's history. 10/10 would recommend and do again.

Jian is a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic foodie. We sampled numerous and abundant local food at small stands and eateries we would not have discovered ourselves. We tasted a broad range a food from siumai, to a variety of grilled food on sticks, sisig, desserts and more. I highly recommend this food tour if you want to experience local flavors from a very personable guide.

This was a fantastic tour! Jian, the guide, was such a good host, balancing a fact and fun-filled street food tour of Manila.
There was an enormous amount of food available, so highly recommend skipping lunch prior to the tour. The food was an array of delicacies, which may be uncommon to many non-Filipinos, but was delicious. I recommend going on this tour with an open mind. Giving everything a go will enhance your experience.
I think that the tour I went on was made even better by having a bunch of others on the tour (our was 12 people)! Cultural experiences are made even better when you have the opportunity to share them with others.

We both really enjoyed this tour, Jian was an amazing tour guide with loads of knowledge, interesting facts (all new to us) and a great selection / variety of foods and drinks to try! We loved how he encouraged us to dig in and really challenge ourselves to explore more and experience the culture through the food we tried, we definitely don’t regret any of it. We are proud to say we did try everything and there wasn’t anything we hated, it’s a great tour and really helped our introduction to the country in our first week being here. We feel like we can go anywhere now on our travels here and enjoy the food we tried on this tour, Jian was great and has been a massive help with more advice for us on our further travels. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone in Manila!
