- Filippa V0 contributionsBest evening in OsakaYayo’s cooking class was the highlight of our holiday and time spent in Osaka. The experience far exceeded our expectation - which was already very high! We learned to make 4 dishes in Yayo’s lovely home - all of which were delicious! Yayo was a great teacher and lovely company too, telling us about everything Japan and its food. There were many surprises throughout the evening which made it so special, and Yayo really made us feel at home. We were sad when the evening came to an end, and cannot recommend this highly enough to other people visiting Osaka. Thank you Yayo (and Akane 💜) for making our stay so special. - Dbabette0 contributionsCooking Class with Yayo is fun and delicious. If you like to cook, or like to eat, this small group experience with Yayo in her home is for you. She is a good teacher and guides you through the preparation of 3 dishes. At the end, you get to sit down and eat your dishes as your dinner. It was all delicious, better than most of the street food I had tried. Yayo is a warm, funny and charming host and teacher. It’s a great and personalized experience while in Osaka.Written 6 October 2024

- Y1219PAvincentc0 contributionsPerhaps the most memorable experience of our trip to JapanIt is clear that Yayo put a lot of thought and care into this cooking class. The experience was phenomenal, and Yayo was a gracious, knowledgeable, and fantastic host. The experience was filled with fun little surprises, and the plum sake made by Yayo's mother was superb. I highly recommend taking Yayo's cooking class.Written 6 September 2024
- Mark E0 contributionsGreat cooking class in OsakaThis was easily one of the best cooking classes we have ever done, and we try to do at least one in every country we visit. Highly recommendedWritten 17 August 2024
- shannoncP1977FD0 contributionsBest Experience I had in All of JapanI spent two amazing weeks in Japan and this class was definitely the highlight of my trip! Yayo is so generous and patient while teaching you her traditional cooking style (with ingredients hand made by her mom). She has a modern and friendly teaching style while imparting age old cooking techniques to tourist like my group of friends, it was the perfect combination of a fun experience and a glimpse into Japanese culture. By the end of the class we were stuffed and Yayo was even ready for that. She had take-home containers and packed up the desserts we had made to take back to the hotel. Best of all she had printed and packaged up the recipes she had taught us with some additional personalized souvenirs to take home. This is not an exaggeration, the very first thing I did when I got home to the USA was make the Dashimaki she taught us and it was delicious!Written 10 August 2024
- B7771BFrenanm0 contributionsGreat classThe instructor was amazing!! So attentive, kind and funny! A variety of dishes is made by you! Definitely recommend it for solo travelersWritten 3 August 2024
- Brock W0 contributionsThe Best Thing We Did On Our Japan Trip!!!This was the highlight of our trip and a must do while in Osaka!! Yayo is an excellent teacher and cook, she walks you through every step of making your meal. She explains the process for how each of your ingredients are made and the history and culture of Osaka cooking. The three of us all had different levels of cooking experience but none of us struggled with Yayo's instructions. She encourages and helps along the way so it's not stressful at all! Everything is very well paced too. Come hungry and be ready to take some left overs for lunch the following day. A very very generous amount of tasty food. If I had to recommend one thing to do in Japan it would be this class!! It was that good!!! I'm fully converted to Osaka style cuisine :)Written 1 July 2024

Not only do you get to make delicious local food, but Yayo takes the time to explain cultural significance and regional differences of all the prepared dishes, which gives a great context to the culinary culture of Osaka. She is also a great conversationalist in both English and Japanese, and I had a blast cooking up dishes and chatting with Yayo. This is such a cute class and I learned a lot about Japanese cooking. I wish I was there to see Ayano (the doggy), but she was taking a leave of absence.
I booked very last minute and Yayo was very accommodating. I did the same pairings as well and I loved every single one of them! One thing I would suggest is when Yayo asks about preferences, let her know in advance anything you would like to try in advanced, like uni (sea urchin) or hotate (scallop). Overall, I would definitely try this again!

Visited Osaka with a group of friends, and my Boyfriend. And we all agreed to book this Class with YAYO. One of the best experiences ever. She was so organized, lovely presentation of Sushi. I still have my origami she gifted us at the end of the course. Would definitely recommend to anyone going to that area.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when Yayo had to change the location of our cooking class to her cooking studio in her house, but I was very pleasantly surprised! She picked us out at the train station and walked us back to her studio where she offered us slippers and place for our things and we were greeted by her adorable pup, Akane (who can be elsewhere if you’re not a fan of dogs- you just have to let her know ahead of time).
Her place was clean and spacious and she had us all set up to go! Given the name, I expected that we would just be making sushi, but she included miso soup, a Japanese style omelet, a green tea ceremony, and a sweet dessert (waffle with red bean paste). Most of the ingredients we used were freshly made by her. Oh and did I mention we were also a given a sake tasting?
Not only is Yayo sweet, but she’s an exec Ellen chef and teacher. The food was delicious and she even sent us with a little doggy bag of what we didn’t finish plus origami cranes with our names in Japanese. She made everything so personalized!! I truly enjoyed this experience and would do it again in a heartbeat!

This was one of our high lights on our trip to Osaka. It was well worth the money. Yayo was lovely and patient in showing you how to prepare all the dishes You have chosen. Akane her cute little dog was adorable. She sat on her chair and watched the whole time.

This is a must do when visiting the Osaka area. The three of us had a wonderful time with Yayo, who is such a great encouraging instructor, and is so nice and sweet you don’t want to leave. The sushi was amazing and the background provided by Yayo on the ingredients and traditional Japanese customs are priceless. If you are a foodie and a sushi lover, sign up for this class.

This was SUCH a wonderful experience - every single part of it. We made a variety of different traditional Japanese dishes and they all tasted wonderful, especially after learning more about the history and background of each one. The instructions are explained thoroughly, and with photos and demonstrations. Don't even think twice about booking this experience!

Yayo was very nice brought me up from the train station to her lovely house. I met Akane, a cute little dog. Akane was with us all the times, quietly resting on her spot. Yayo was a very patient teacher. She explained every ingredients using for the miso soup, sake drink, matcha (powdered green tea), dashimaki (egg), red bean waffle and sushi. I enjoyed chatting with Yayo about Japanese culture, the language and the food. She was wonderful and explained to me every ingredients traditionally made. The food are very delicious. I could not resist and ate all 10 pieces sushi I made. We took many pictures and these will be a very good memory for me. I definitely recommend Yayo's sushi class to my friends.
