About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Sightsee201946853830 contributionsEnjoyable insight of NaganoWe had Masa as our guide and he was excellent. He provided a lot of interesting and useful information on Nagano and Japan especially on its food and culture. The Oyaki dumplings and the dorayaki were delicious. The sake tasting was enjoyable. Our visit to Zenkoji temple was really interesting. Masa also sent us some memorable photos which we greatly appreciate.Written 1 February 2025
- FarAway7879230 contributionsObuse - artistic heritage, food and cultureThe trip to Obuse was wonderful- a great mix of art, culture, history intermingled with an intimate view of life in an authentic Japanese town that has inspired some of Japan’s most famous artists. The sake tasting and delicious lunch were icing on the cake!Written 30 January 2025
- I6050FUjeremyb0 contributionsGreat Nagano Tour!We had a great time with Masa on this tour! It was nice exploring Nagano and Zenkoji Temple before the sake tasting. Masa was very knowledgable and shared local recommendations. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Nagano!Written 19 January 2025

- emmacU188BN0 contributionsGreat experience! My partner and I did the tour in early November and its was amazing. Masa was our guide and he was great, he was very friendly and knowledgeable about the areas we walked and made the experience feel like a friend was showing us around and despite the fact it rained the whole tour we still had a great time! We’re also grateful that we have lots of great photos which he took throughout. The brewery itself was also such a unique experience and I would definitely recommend.Written 9 December 2024
- saracY4588JO0 contributionsExcellent tourMasa was an excellent tour guide, and very accommodating when I mistakenly thought the tour started an hour later than it actually did. He was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I’d highly recommend this tour!Written 5 December 2024
- ellisc2780 contributionsHighly recommendWe had a great time! Masa was super knowledgeable about both the temple we went to, other local history and happenings, and sake. We got to ask all the questions we wanted, had plenty of sake to taste (way better than sake in the US), and Masa took some fun photos for us! My pal and I are both guides, and frequently hesitate to take tours since we feel like we can do a lot all on our own, but this tour was absolutely worth it! We would not have gotten an experience like this on our own. You're in great hands here!Written 3 December 2024
- andrewsT8897SH0 contributionsPassing through Nagano the right way!Our guide Masa was outstanding. It was a relaxed, and very fun experience, that allowed us to take the morning train into Nagano, then we finished back at the station, and took the train onwards to Tokyo. If your plans have you passing by Nagano, or you are staying in Nagano, this is a perfect three hours to take a look around the Zenkoji temple, and taste some fresh off the fire treats, and also a sake tasting from a highly rated Nagano sake brewery. Masa explains the differences in sake, and the traditional baking techniques of the Oyaki dumplings. We finished with Macha ice cream that tasted so much better than what we have back home. Highly recommended!Written 29 November 2024
- botsun0 contributionsA great 3 hours action packed cultural tourWe had an amazing and action-packed three hours! From trying Nagano’s traditional snack, Oyaki, to tasting at a historic Japanese sake brewery (non-alcoholic options available), indulging in rich and delicious matcha ice cream made by a local teahouse (also available in hojicha flavor!), and exploring famous spots like Zenkoji Temple and Yawataya Isogoro shop, one of Japan’s top three chili pepper makers—every moment was memorable. MASA’s detailed explanations, his kind hospitality, and the beautiful snapshots and commemorative photos he took added so much value to the experience. Whether you have 3 hours to fill , like you’re waiting for your Shinkansen back to Tokyo or filling time before checking into your hotel or hot spring / skiing resort after arriving in Nagano, this cultural tour around Nagano Station is highly recommended. Our guide, MASA, was incredibly accommodating, knowledgeable about both the main attractions and hidden gems, and highly responsive to the needs of our guests visiting from overseas. We’re so grateful for his guidance! The seasonal Unohana (tofu soy pulp)Oyaki and the Daiginjo sake were unforgettable—they were absolutely delicious!Written 20 November 2024
- Q1475GRhugom0 contributionsSake tour which is absolutely worth your time!We had great time during the tour. Our guide took us down some side streets to show us around Nagano. After that the sake tasting was very good and we received a lot of information about how sake is being made.Written 18 November 2024
- jessicatX3243HT0 contributionsGive it a go, it’s fun.I was lucky enough to have a private tour since si was the only guest for my date. It was a really good experience with Masa, who is a sweet and nice guy. He took the time to explain everything about the temple and the sake. Such a good moment.Written 11 November 2024
- shannonq7700 contributionsGreat ExperienceThe tour was amazing; Masa was very warm and friendly and did a great job guiding us around Matsumoto castle, nawate shopping street and nakamachi shopping street. The sake tour was great fun and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone else in the area.Written 31 October 2024
- richardwA9462GD0 contributionsfantastic tour and guideWe had an amazing experience with our local guide Masa. Their extensive local knowledge allowed us to see some great local places that we would have missed on our own. He sent us some fantastic photos afterwards and even recommended a great place for dinner after the tour. We recommend him as a guide for anyone who wants to know the history of the area and have a great tourWritten 28 October 2024
- 972dwightk0 contributionsOutstanding walking tour of Togakushi shrines and Kagami Iki Pond with local lunchIt was a wonderful, informative personal tour for only two of us. Masa, our guide, was outstanding, accommodated our pace, interests, and food. Masa suggested leaving earlier than scheduled to avoid crowds, which worked out well. Kagami Iki Pond was absolutely beautiful, with autumn leaves and mountains reflected on the water's surface. We visited four of the main shrines, plus an additional hidden one, and learned about Shinto and how to properly bow and clap at shrines. The hike to Okushi was the longest and the most challenging, but the path is well maintained and accessible for anyone in modest shape. Lunch was authentic soba at a restaurant over 100 years old. At the end of the tour, Masa dropped us off at the Zenko-ji Temple because we mentioned we wanted to try the Beni-Beni pie. Masa was born and raised in the Togakushi area and, therefore, very knowledgeable, providing a unique perspective. His English was very good as he completed graduate school and worked in London prior to moving back to Nagano. Masa also took many pictures of us at the different sites, that he sent to us the next day as part of the package. Overall, we highly recommend this tour company to anyone interested in sightseeing in the Nagano area.Written 23 October 2024

I had a lovely evening touring the izakayas with Masa. I was his only client that evening, so I had his full attention. The establishments we visited were very authentic and the food was very good. I especially enjoyed the mushroom soba noodles and the pickles, all hand made by the izakaya owner, a woman in her eighties who was simply lovely. Masa is very knowledgeable about his hometown and about all that there is to see around Nagano. I highly recommend this tour.

Great visit to local restaurants and bars. Masa was very professional, knowledgeable and friendly and catered the night around our preferences. Great and interesting food in quirky places. Terrific to meet some fascinating locals. We really appreciated Masa taking photos of us and then emailing them to us later. Meeting and end places easy to navigate. Masa also made some excellent recommendations for restaurants and day trips. A fascinating, memorable and enjoyable experience.

The izakaya night food tour was the highlight of my visit in Nagano. I was privileged to have a one on one evening food tour with an amazing tour guide, Masa who took me to three amazing food/drink through town. I was able to experience how the Nagano community gathered and enjoyed conversations and share their daily lives at these restaurants. Masa took the time to explain the types of foods I ate which all were delicious. The walk & conversation I had with Masa at the food tour will forever be a precious memory. I definitely recommend this tour with a fantastic food tour with Masa.

It was our first time in Nagano, and our friends highly recommended us to go on the Izakaya food night tour with Masa - it was the best experience in Nagano! Masa brought us to different places to eat, and what we enjoyed most apart from all the yummy food was just talking to Masa, getting to know him and vice versa, understanding more about the Japanese and Nagano culture etc. We highly recommend this experience with Masa when you're in Nagano! 😊

Such a memorable experience. It was great to eat and drink with other tourists and hear stories from our local guide, Masa. I picked this tour because I am a bit shy and find it difficult to enter small local shops, but with a group it was so fun and natural. Highly recommended!

We're seasoned travellers, living in Tokyo these days, took a get away but we're also stressed. Our japanese gets us around but it's not great and planning food for the first night just felt overwhelming along with travelling and doing everything that day. Also it was my partner's birthday so I knew I wanted it to definitely be good not just throw a dart and hope. We had such a great time, our guide is local, knowledgeable, friends with the proprietors everywhere we went, we found great corners both historical and delightful, all of the flavors were amazing, fresh, and local. Do yourself a favor and have a great night!

We did the izakaya food tour with Masa and it’s one of the best things we did on our trip. Masa brought us to some great local izakayas that we wouldn’t have ever found or gone to ourselves.
He was super informative; explaining all the different dishes not just from Nagano but all around the country. He was also great to answer questions or queries on Japan and just to have a nice chat. Would definitely recommend!
