      Fantastic experience! Highly recommend!
We had a fantastic afternoon on our tour! Ray was an amazing guide and we enjoyed seeing the bamboo forest, monkey park, and many other sights. Highly recommend this tour and going through Kyoto on a bike tour was a great choice!

      AMAZING!
This tour is absolutely amazing! I was a little hesitant knowing I’d be riding a bike through bustling Japan, but Peter made sure our bikes and helmets were fitted properly, and he was an excellent guide! The bikes provided us the ability to see so many things that we wouldn’t have been unable to enjoy otherwise. Everyone in our group wished we could ride bikes for the rest of our trip because we had so much fun. I would highly recommend this tour and I will definitely do it again when I return to Japan!

Amazing afternoon, beautiful sites and incredible tour guide
We had an amazing afternoon out and the best guide ever with Yuki. He took us to the best places and his general knowledge and knowledge of history was nothing short of incredible. Great personality and great tour guide - thank you Yuki. Excellent quality bikes and helmets.

Well worth your time and highlight of the trip
Went as a family of 3 and it was a standout of our time in Japan. Yuki was a warm and informative guide was kind and generous with my 8 year old daughters many questions. The bike tour takes you to places you wouldn’t normally see along with the main sites you’d expect. Thoroughly recommended.

Why to make a bike tour in Kyoto?
If you only want to be dropped of at main tourist spots and take your picture before going to the next spot - then don‘t do it. If you want to see the most popular tourist spots from an insider persepctive and experience Kyoto in a very personal way in between - then you should book a tour with these guys We did it two times - first a morning tour (4h) and then the fullday trip around Kyoto (8h). You cover great distances and still stay emersed in the special atmosphere of the very different parts of the city. Even better you do not have to take care of drinks, lunch (on the big tour and even photos of you and your group are taken during the tour (all provided via Dropbox right after the trip on the same day without additional charges - great service). The difference to other operators are the guides. We had Ray and Rob - both from the States but living in Japan for more than 20 years and studied Japanese language and culture. While Ray is more into culture and can explain lots of details Rob is a great storyteller who exits you about the history of the different sides during the tour. Both guides do not drop you at the entrance of the different spots but guide through and open doors and perspectives we definitely would have missed. They know the best spots for photos and even when places are crowded - and they are even in the early morning hours - both know ways to get around the average tourist path and guide you to individual spots only real insider will know. Combined with their deep knowledge of the history and a lot of stories from ancient times the tour ended much too early. Another advantage of booking with KyotoBikeTours are the small groups. We could even make adjustments to the general tour to fit our needs since we had visited some spots before. Certainly, in the beginning we were skeptical to ride a bike within a big city - but Ray and Rob know ways where you think you are in a small town without any cars. Only a few times we had to go with some traffic but both are highly experienced guides and cleared our way so never had any critical situations. To summaries we will book Kyotobiketours anytime we stay in Kyoto and we are sure it will be a fantastic adventure every time.

      A great tour around Kyoto
This was such a great experience. Peter was an outstanding guide, and very professional. He makes sure everyone feels safe and his knowledge about the sights we visited were very insightful. I would highly recommend this tour! The bikes on this tour are well kept and perform great

      Highlight of our trip
We had a fantastic time in Kyoto bike tours. Peter our guide was very knowledgeable about the area, history and culture. We did the half day tour and wish we did the full day! Was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan.

A pleasant ride to the bamboo forest and neighbouring areas.
What a pleasant and calm way to visit Arashiyama this tour is! I truly recommend it if you would like to experience the bamboo forest and surrounding areas before the crowds arrive. We learnt so much about the culture of Japan as well as the areas / temples we visited. The cycling is fairly easy too. A very pleasant morning indeed. It felt like going out for a ride with friends. You hat done great pics back too! Truly recommended.

Afternoon Bike Tour Arashiyama Bamboo Forest & Monkey Forest
The bike tour was one of the highlights of our Kyoto trip. I highly recommend the Kyoto Bike Tour, especially with our guide, Peter. We took the 4-hour afternoon bike tour, which was a fantastic way to visit the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and Monkey Park. Without the bike tour, it would have taken much longer to reach both destinations, leaving us with less time to explore other parts of Kyoto. Plus, it's not just quicker—Peter provides fascinating insights into Japanese history, making it an educational experience as well.

      Ride the Road Less Traveled
We had an amazing tour with Peter as our guide. He is very friendly and knowledgeable about the history and culture of Japan. It was great to see some of the highlights of Arashiyama but also get off the beaten path to some places that most tourists don’t see. We highly recommend Kyoto Bike Tours and wish we had done the full day tour.

      A Great Tour Guide
Ray effortlessly guided us on bicycles thru crowded tourist locations and into remoter areas out in the country that you won't see mentioned in tourist guides. He has lived in Japan for 20 years... and studied Japanese language and literature which informs his descriptions with the subtleties of Japanese rituals and customs. His enthusiasm for Japan combined w personal and interesting anecdotes makes him the best tour guide we've had during our month long visit. Thank you!

Had a great time on the tour despite the weather challenges. The weather forecast said no rain initially when we started out but it ended up raining for over 60% of our tour including multiple hail storms! Peter did his best to get us through it and we all survived and got some great pictures and an experience that we will never forget. He took many pictures for us and sent them all to us afterwards. It was a very unique way to see the local areas and back streets of Kyoto along with 5 major tourist attractions. He was very knowledgeable about the history and was a great guide. As for the bike riding, the bikes were high quality and easy to ride. The majority of the ride was on easy flat terrain however there are a few inclines here and there. I would recommend to dress warmly if the weather is chilly and be somewhat physically fit due to the amount of riding involved. Overall I thought it was a well planned tour and a great way to see Kyoto!

This was an awesome experience. I got an email confirming everything in advance and giving detailed directions about how to arrive, which was great since I don't know Japanese. Peter is a very knowledgeable tour guide and a very interesting person, and he was able to keep me engaged for an 8-hour tour between the wealth of knowledge he has as well as his personal life stories. He even surprised me with a short detour to the original Nintendo headquarters when I told him I was a Nintendo fan. He also made sure that we were able to eat lunch at a restaurant with options besides sushi and fish at my request. I also got photos sent to me through Dropbox at the conclusion of the tour. Thanks for a great tour and if I'm back in Kyoto I will do another one!

If you like biking, take this tour. It's a long and full day and and left me feeling a bit exhausted and very satisfied. It would be hard to see all of these sights in one day without a bike, but Kyoto is a safe and pleasant city for riding and we managed to circle around most of it; visiting two temples, a shrine, the bamboo forest, and a geisha district, among several other stops and a tasty lunch. The tour is well paced and Ray is a great guide; he was friendly, informative, and clearly happy to be doing what he's doing. We had a group of five (two couples and myself, a solo traveler) and he made sure to take photos of each of us at every attraction, which was a thoughtful touch. He also gave great recommendations for the rest of my time in Kyoto and in Japan. Kyoto Bike Tours is still a small operation and it's easy to tell they care a lot about creating a good experience. Highly recommended!

We spent a fantastic day exploring Kyoto with Peter. He planned an amazing itinerary for us showcasing the best attractions in Kyoto and keeping our kids, ages 17, 16 and 11, happy, engaged and safe. He was thoughtful about the amount of cycling that our 11-year-old could manage and customized an itinerary that worked beautifully. Peter’s commentary throughout the tour gave us a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural significance of what we were seeing. The bikes were exceptionally clean, well maintained, and comfortable for the 32km of cycling we covered. If your family is considering a bicycle tour in Kyoto, we can’t recommend Kyoto Bike Tour highly enough. It was truly a highlight of our trip to Japan!

Let me start off by saying, I never write positive reviews, but I had such an amazing experience I wanted to share. I was lucky enough to have 1 1:1 tour with Ray. This says a lot, as Ray could have easily cancelled but he is so passionate about Kyoto and all it has to offer. Ray has that type of personality that reminds you of a old school friend. He explains the history in such a simple way it is easy to retain and his biking skills as we navigated the city were superb.

We biked a total of 25 miles and walked about 10, so my only recommendation would be to make sure you know how to bike and are in decent physical shape.

Thank you Ray for the memories and amazing pictures!!!

Ray was a very knowledgeable, fun and laid back tour guide who made our day on the bike very enjoyable. We did the full day tour which gave us the opportunity to see everything we wanted to see in Kyoto in one long (but fun!) day. Ray has lived in Japan for many years, so he has a deep interest, love and understanding of the Japanese culture. He was able to provide us with lots of background and history for each site that we visited. We were lucky to have a beautiful day to bike around Kyoto and the biking was mostly flat and easy going. The bikes are in excellent condition. There are plenty of stops so that you can stretch your legs and get off the bike. The sakura were in bloom and Ray makes sure to take many pictures of the group and individuals as well as the sights. He sends a link at the end to all of the pictures and they are great! You don't need to worry about taking any yourself! Just soak in the atmosphere. We had a wonderful lunch and great company with our fellow bikers. Entrance fees and lunch are included in the tour. At the end, Ray made sure that we knew how to find our way back to our hotel and he offered dinner recommendations. This tour is a full day tour but I believe that they offer a 1/2 day morning and 1/2 day afternoon tour as well so don't hesitate to book one of their tours for a lovely day cruising around Kyoto. Tip: Go on one of your first days in Kyoto so that you have time to go back and explore those areas that interest you most. Highly recommend!

If you don‘t want to spend a lot of time on public transport and still see some of Kyotos most famous highlights plus a lot of beautiful places on the way I highly recommend Kyoto Bike Tour!

Ray was the perfect guide for my day tour. He is very knowledgeable, helpful and great company and made sure I had a fantastic day in Kyoto.
My Cannondale bike was in great condition and a perfect match for my height (which can be a bit of a struggle in Japan sometimes).
Throughout the 8hrs tour we visited the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, the Fushimi Inari Taisha, the Kiyomizu-dera, the Geisha District and the Kinkaku-ji cycling along rivers, rice fields, passing kimono factories, the former Imperial Palace grounds and many backstreets of Kyoto and had lunch at a lovely local restaurant. Ray explained the history of the various places and made sure to share some fun facts too and he also took lots of photos at the sites and on the bikes so don‘t worry if you‘re travelling solo like me - you‘ll still have some great shots of you in the end as a memory.

When you come to Kyoto make sure you make time for a tour with Kyoto Bike Tour!

We are not early birds. We are not the best bikers either. In fact, I’ve never ridden more than 5 miles per trip. But this bike tour was worth every minute I could have been sleeping and even surprised myself I could complete the 42 miles without much difficulty! Peter and Keith are local to Kyoto and were very knowledgeable- a pleasure to spend the 8 hr tour with. Time went by fast and we got to see local alleys and places we wouldn’t have been able to venture to otherwise. We highly recommend this tour! Oh, and do bring padded cycling shorts...

Amazing experiencie, Ray and Pete are the best guides in Kyoto. The tour is extense but very precise on the landmarks of the city, from temples to shrines and amazing photo spots. It is a tour that requires a good level of stamina, since you cycle around 45 km troughout the city.

This was a wonderful tour circling through the city of Kyoto with local information, temples, bamboo forest, Maiko and history. It was a range of ages from late 20s to early 60s. The group was fun and the day was perfect. Bike skills were needed as we cycled on roads as well as trails.
