    Great experience with great staff
Booked the basic package which still included the museum tour, throwing star experience and samurai dress up. The young lady who showed us around was amazing. She explained everything about samurai and ninjas very well and talked about the history of them both. Most of the people on the tour with us were adults but children of all ages will enjoy this experience.

    Samurai/ninja experience
The exhibition was very interesting, made even better by our extremely knowledgeable and friendly host Nobu. He really knew the history of the samurai inside out. He answered many questions and gave us a good laugh. The costume dressing was fun and we got to have a shot of some play ninja stars, although that was more for children.

    Most terrible experience in Japan
I read a bunch of reviews that this is a must see in Kyoto, but this is not a museum. it's just a bunch of young people got together and figured out how to extract money from tourists. They certainly did their best, collected samurai costumes, hung pictures and tell a little history, but this is not a museum and is not worth the money for a ticket at all

Less of a museum, more of a costume party
I was more interested in the museum part than the experience part. While I really liked our guide there just wasn't enough content to make me feel like it was a good value. e.g. they had a lot of cool items in their museum with placards explaining what they were but you couldn't really look at them because you had to move to another room after the guide was done speaking. Dressing up as a samurai, throwing fake ninja stars, etc didn't appeal to me so I skipped that part and I expect that's actually the main attraction for this place - the museum is just an after thought.

    Sword play for all
Excellent experience, very fun for the whole family. Very informative in the samurai customs and history. The museum was also full of fun historical facts and artifacts. The ninja star throwing was a nice touch and the costume section was the icing on top. I would recommend to anyone looking to explore ninja and samurai culture in the area.

A fun family activity in Kyoto
A great taste of ancient Japanese culture and history. The Samuri teacher was authentic and taught us some fun moves. The guided tour with Nobu afterwards was very interesting and I learned a lot about Japan from the visit! My whole family enjoyed the experience with 4 children ages 6-26!

Such a fun experience! I love the history of feudal Japan and Nobu did an awesome job of educating and entertaining us with his corny jokes lol! The tour of the museum was about 30 minutes which included activities at the end of throwing shuriken and wearing traditional samurai battle gear. Those who loves samurai and ninja moves I would highly recommend to check it out with Nobu!

This was brilliant.

30 minute guided tour through the museum - thoughtful insights into the history of Samurai and Ninjas - but they keep it light, it’s only 30 mins after all, which suited us well!

Then some throwing of ninja stars. Finally dressing up in samurai gear for a photo opp. We hadn’t realised these final two experiences were included in the basic package, and would probably not have booked to do them, but they were absolutely hilarious. A real highlight of my trip to Japan watching my husband initiated as a samurai.

I would also note that there were some very active small children in our group who had a lot of questions! The guide handled all their questions masterfully, while keeping the content focused and interesting for the adults on the tour. Not an easy task - very well done to him!

Brilliant tour - would recommend to everyone. Five stars.

Very interesting, sympathetic guide but very fast. There was a lot to have a look at but no time to read. I felt a little bit rushed because the guide would go to the next station very fast and the group behind you would rush in the room.

The museum is very small. In the first room there are some beautiful samurai armor on display and in the second room there are samurai swords on display. There are posters/photos with information everywhere, but you hardly have time to read them.
The tour is guided. The presenter made it interesting and you learn a lot about the samurai and their history. The tour is in English and was difficult to understand due to the strong accent. Once the presentation is finished, we move on to the next room. For example, you don't have time to tell the children what they heard. There is also no time to look at other objects or read anything about them, because the next group is already coming.
During the Ninja Experience you get plastic ninja stars and can throw them onto a Styrofoam wall. That's all.
The equipment you are allowed to put on at the end is the cheapest imitation, and you also get a plastic sword. The whole thing took about 45 minutes.

They charged 6,600 YEN for 2 of us. we were told the museum was small and you have to go on the tour, it lasts an hour, it had started so we paid and walked into what is a room with 4 sections, they tour was already in the 2nd section at 1.01pm. The "tor" had finished by 1.20, at that point they have talked you through the history of Japan and the Samurai history and you can go to another floor to throw Ninja stars or another building to try on costumes. What an absolute joke. Ninja Castle only costs 1,300 yen per person, I'd go there twice instead of wasting your time here. I came back to read the terrible reviews once we had been, I wish I had read them before. They are 100% accurate, its for kids and its worth about 300 yen at a push.

The place of this attraction is located within the Shinkyogoku area, near Shijo Kawaramachi (a shopping street) which is very convenient. It's located above a shop. Though the place calls itself a museum, it's more like an exhibit with lots of samurai armours, katanas, statues and paintings.

You are basically getting a guided tour through the exhibit explaining about the various armours, katanas and several historical characters (in English). At the end of the tour you are guided towards another section where you can throw shurikens (battle stars), wear a samurai armour and get pictures taken with you in it (this also depends on which experience you have purchased)

If you are looking to infuse your first Kyoto visit with an experience, i would definitely recommend you to come here. It is definitely catered for foreign tourists. Do i feel overcharged? On one side "yes", as i was expecting a proper museum, but this felt more like a makeshift exhibit and the tour felt like rushed and going through the motion. BUT ... on the other hand i know it costs a lot to maintain the armours in good shape including the katanas.

In the end we felt happy as it was an experience so ... there you have it.

I'll start by stating my husband and I enjoyed this experience. That being said, it's quite a stretch to call this a museum. We were gathered with about 25 other museum-goers scheduled for the same time slot. Our guide, who was upbeat and smiling and humorous, showed us costumes and sword displays. There is some written historical information, but there is no time to read the information before you are guided to the next display. After that, we were brought into the 'experience room', where you're given a plastic ninja star and given a chance to throw the star. The entire site is not big, consisting of about three rooms. After the ninja star experience, you walk a few hundred feet to another building where you have the opportunity to try on Samurai costumes and take pictures. The entire experience lasted 50 minutes. All this for ¥3000 yen per person. Would I do it again? Not me personally, but hubby enjoyed it and it was entertaining enough. If you have limited time in Kyoto, I'd skip it unless you are a real fan of this sort of thing, or want something fun for kids to do on a rainy day.

The museum really consists of two rooms about the size of an average two person, hotel room, six samurai outfits and 20 swords. The group was too big and was a mix of adults and children. There was not enough seating, which the children generally took first leaving the adults to stand. There was information posted on the wall that might've been interesting given the opportunity to read it. The "tour" information was generally cursory, and the experiences fairly weak. I found it expensive - not worth the time or money. Don't know how much children pay, but a 10-year-old might really enjoy it. me, not so much.

This was tragic! This cannot be called a MUSEUM, it is a kind of exhibition with very few artefacts and some posters. At the start we were ushered into a room that kept getting fuller and fuller, even a few minutes after the "guide" had started talking, people came in and there were then 30 people in this cramped room. This ruined both the focus and the experience. The venue was cramped and inappropriate for both the number of people and the activity, you get the feeling of something temporary and frivolous! The so-called guide was more concerned with looking at the clock and pushing people through a mess of an installation than giving a quality experience, much like when you need to get something bad you've eaten out of your gut. As an activity we got to throw some rubber ninja stars into a worn styrofoam sheet from a distance of 2 meters and at the end we could put on some cosplay neoprene suits to look like warriors. These "costumes", helmets and swords were so worn and used that it felt like an insult to put them on and mess around! A minimum of respect must be shown by this "museum" to a paying public!!

Ripoff and total lack of respect for a paying audience. We had moderate and open expectations, but think even small children see through this tragic enterprise! Dear readers, spend your time and money on anything but this!!!

We value all feedback and strive to provide the best possible experience for every visitor. While your review differs from the vast majority of our guests (96%), we'd still like to address a couple of points you raised: ----Group Size: The average group size for our tours is around 15 in Kyoto and slightly smaller in Tokyo. This allows for a more personalized and engaging experience for each guest. ---Guides and Time: Our guides are passionate about sharing the museum's stories and artifacts. While they typically don't check their watches, they may do so when leading timed tours, as we offer various experiences requiring guests to stay on schedule. We hope this information provides some additional context. PS* we are thrilled to announce our upcoming move to a brand new, three-story complex in 2 months. This expansion will make our museum the largest in the city!!! We're eagerly anticipating this move, as it will allow us to unveil a completely refreshed collection of props and significantly expand our exhibits. We hope you'll consider visiting again to experience our new space and expanded offerings!

Friendly tour guide gave us good history of the samurai and ninjas with some ancient Japanese history. At the end of the tour you get to dress up in samurai armour and helmet and take pics. The main downside is that as it is a guided tour you don't get to look at each exhibit in your own time but instead you're rushed from room to room in a large group.

I felt the museum is a bit dated. They can improve the exhibit signs for each piece in the museum as some signs are poorly presented and can introduce some interactive displays to modernise and enhance the visitor experience.
