Highlight of our trip to Japan
Our private bento cooking class was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan! Our instructor, Fujiko-san, was an excellent teacher: she was kind, cool, lovely to chat with, and struck a perfect balance between demonstrating techniques and having us do the hands-on cooking. We loved learning more about Japanese cooking tools, ingredients, and flavor profiles, and were amazed that we were able to recreate such delicious dishes ourselves (with Fujiko-san's coaching!). We also had one vegetarian in the group and appreciated that the class allowed everyone to cook to their dietary needs/preferences, with tasty options for both omnivores and non-omnivores. Thank you so much to Fujiko-san and Cooking Sun - we will be recreating these dishes at home often! :)

Great tips learning to cook Japanese food better than what my mom taught me
I’m a Japanese-American from California and love to cook. I’ve wanted to make better tempura for a long time and this class gave me good tips and assistance. Additionally, I’ve never made a sushi roll and again, the teachers for our class were helpful and I was successful in meeting my goals. It was a fun and organized class, clean facility, and friendly group. I’d highly recommend this class. Even though I’ve helped family members and watched and cooked most of the recipes in the class for many years, I learned better ways of making three of the items in our cooking class. Thank you to the staff.

Efficient, informative, hands on bento box cooking. We covered sushi, miso soup and at least 3 other dishes. The women were helpful and fun. Highly recommend.

      Fantastic family experience
Had an amazing private bento box cookery class as a family with my 14 and 11 year old sons. May, our teacher, was fantastic, very knowledgeable, patient and friendly. We all had a fantastic morning and surprised at how nice our lunch, that we made, turned out! One of the highlights of a fantastic trip and has motivated my boys to cook more.

My kids ask me to review this class
3hrs well spent! It was calm and relaxing yet we made 4 dishes from scratch. it was really fun. My 11 and 13 year old boys really enjoyed it. They have 2 people in a family sharing equipment sometimes which is good or bad depends on the stage of the kids are in. Overall it's fantastic. And for the price you get a lot out of it.

      Great experience and tasty results
We booked into a bento box cooking class with Cooking Sun in Kyoto. My culinary skills are fairly basic, so I wasn't expecting miracles. It was really well set up and organised. The instructors, great communicators who spoke fluent English, walk you through step by step on how to make each of the individual dishes that make up your bento box. The experience was so much fun and at the end you get to eat what you've made - which in my case was actually delicious. They catered for all dietary requirements and adapted the dishes accordingly. Would highly recommend if you enjoy cooking and want to learn some Japanese recipes and techniques!

      Wonderful Cook Class
We loved our morning cooking class and was surprised how good our Bento Boxes turned out! It was due to the great demonstrations and help by the staff. I enjoy doing cooking classes when visiting other countries and this one was no exception. A wonderful way to spend a morning and with a delicious lunch at the end.

Excellent Cooking Class with Vegetarian Options
This class is very organized and you get to cook and eat a wide variety of Japanese foods. There were three people teaching our group of 10 and all spoke very good English and were friendly. We requested ahead of time to have vegan dishes and they were very responsive to our needs during the class. They even asked if dashi (fish based broth) was okay. Overall a wonderful experience.

Perfect for the experienced cook and non-cook
A fantastic experience for me (an experienced cook) and my husband (a non-cook). We were very lucky to have a class to ourselves and learnt some lovely tricks from the chef, who was calm, gentle and absolutely delightful. Highly recommended.

      Cooking tips from their grandmothers!
Both instructors were excellent and even shared their grandmothers techniques (like washing vegetables in soy sauce). They were also very easy to understand - cooking was lots of fun. We made several dishes that we will make again at home.

We had a wonderful cooking class with Yuki. We liked that the class had small numbers, only 4 of us, which resulted in a relaxed and intimate environment. We had plenty of opportunities to ask questions. The food we cooked was delicious and Yuki was open to some adaptations to suit our palates! We cooked 7 dishes in total. We were offered Sake with our food at an additional charge. We felt that the sake should have been included in the price as the class is expensive at almost €65 each. Yuki was a great teacher and is clearly passionate about what she does. Would recommend.

The teachers were fun and kind. Somethings were prepared in advance for the sake of brevity but it was nonetheless explained so we can recreate the recipes.

The setting was very homely and cozy and we also had fun meeting other people taking the class.

We highly recommend if you like japanese food and would like to be able to bring some flavors back home.

My husband and I wanted to not just eat good Japanese food, but learn the skills to recreated them at home and this class delivered on this promise and more. We realized that the food we made in this class, though not as beautifully crafted as the Michelin star restaurants due to our lack of "shaping" skills, it tasted just as great.

Chef Chiaki speaks fluent english, is incredibly personable and patient, and we enjoyed every moment of the class with her. I would highly recommend asking to see if she is available to teach if you have the option to do so.

Living in the bay area, we can source all the ingredients easily, so we're definitely going to be making again what we learned and explore more internet recipes.

This class was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. The food we made was so delicious and it really empowered us to cook healthy easy Japanese meals. They gave us the recipes of what we cooked and my partner is currently shopping at the market to make them again.

I did the afternoon class and loved it. The delicious dishes we prepared are remarkably simple to put together, and you get a hardcopy of the recipes to take with you. Note that you make a substantial amount of food and eat it in three rounds. I would encourage you not to eat a big lunch before coming here, because you will be too full to eat everything that you make!

Highly recommend this experience for anyone who enjoys eating and/or cooking. I did this class with my family (ages range from 12 to mid-70s) and everyone had an awesome time. We made 6 dishes plus stock. The menu and class were very well planned, instruction was clear, and the food was delicious. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a fun hands-on group activity.

A really fantastic , 3 hour cooking class . Each of the 3 instructors were energetic, definitely knew their food and spoke good English. We made 5 small dishes, which were all very tasty and perhaps learnt some new techniques to improve our own cooking skills. The instructors operate from a central cooking area and as students we were seated on the perimeter of that . In total there were 12 students attending.

We accidentally turned up a week early for our cooking class, however they were able to accommodate us on the day! We thoroughly enjoyed the class and found the learning really beneficial. We liked that some of the prep work had been done so that the class could focus on the more skilled/specific areas of Japanese cooking. The teachers gave us some great practical tips and teachings that we could apply back home.
