          Welcome to Island Time
This review is for the Pirogue tour to Baie d'Upi, and pickup from the Piscine Naturel (Natural Pool). Booking Web site looks professional, but there are some kinks. I found the BON PLAN PIROGUE + REPAS SANDWICH in two locations on the web site. One only allowed bookings for 3 on our date of travel (as if the boat was half booked). I asked our french speaking concierge to phone them and ask if they could take 4. When they finally got through, Mana said to send an email, that English was okay, and that they'd reply quickly. We'd already sent an email, no response, so were ready to give up when I found the same deal elsewhere on the web site that allowed bookings for up to 12. I did it, paid, got a receipt and confirmation. All good. NOTE that all of my French emails from bookings are going to Gmail spam. Check your spam folder. On the night before, we got a please-confirm email in French, which Google Translate dealt with promptly and gave us instructions to carry water, money for entry to the natural pool, and to meet at the ferry terminal. I never felt overwhelmed with confidence through the process, but it worked for us. Arrival The ferry had head winds and was over 30 mins late. The ferry terminal is a zoo of locals and tour operators spruiking and finding their bookings, none of them with placards. At least two asked us who we were after - Mana Nautique - and pointed out the correct mini bus. Again, not confidence inspiring, but it worked. First Stop This is where things went wrong. My French borders on abysmal. I can communicate in very short sentences. Our driver's English was about the same. We were both tolerant and persistant though and it seemed to work, agreeing on a pickup time of 1630 at the Natural Pool car park. But then... We arrived at the Natural Pool. Not the pirogues (canoe boat). D'oh. "Ou est les pirogues?" Thus ensued a conversation of many words but little communication, displaying my booking confirmation on my phone, and another drive to the pirogue launching site.... ...where there were no skippers. Crap. They'd gone without us. Our driver wasn't fussed. We wait. So we did. About an hour. Some others arrived with other groups, including a bilingual Frenchman who became the lynchpin of the entire operation. Apparently there's been a death in the island family and there was a shortage of skippers due to mourning - we hadn't missed the pirogue at all. It hadn't run all day. A skipper finally arrived, we were invited to board, and finally, at 1pm when we'd hoped to canoe off at 10am or so, our official adventure began. Pirogue Baie d'Upi is gorgeous, and I'm glad we saw it up close. Spotted a couple of turtles, and weaving through the tiny eroded islands was spectacular. Shades of 12 Apostles in Victoria Australia, but more tranquil and no thrashing surf. We discovered our fellow travellers were all doing a return trip on the pirogue, whereas we were going one-way and hiking it to the natural pool. After the previous miscommunication with Mana Nautique, we thought it wise to confirm and used our ever so handy bilingual Frenchman to ask. Are you dropping us off to walk to the natural pool. Yes, yes. 45 minute walk. All good. And it was. After about an hour of motoring slowly through Baie d'Upi, we were dropped in crystal thigh deep water and splashed our way to shore. While this worked for us, I would not recommend it for small children. There are no safety protocols at all, but the water also never exceeds chest deep, so not very threatening for adults. Hike to Natural Pool Wear good closed-toe shoes. You'll need them. We did and the walk was fine. It wouldn't be much fun in sandals or flip-flops. The path is strewn with tree roots and crab holes. Natural Pool Its every bit as good as people say. We snorkelled Amedeee and Le Ponton before this, which were GREAT but they just do not register in comparison. Hundreds of clams, thousands of fish. Countless other sea slugs and weird stuff. After all our phaffing about, we only had 45 mins, but you really need 2 hours. So, so worth it. Return Our driver was where he said he'd be and got us back on time. Overall Were happy, but we were taking a pretty relaxed approach. If you're easily frustrated by things not going smoothly, this experience would drive you mad. For us, it added to the experience, but cost us time in the pool. No regrets though.

          Avoid this tour company
Strongly advise not to book through this company unprofessional, no communication or organization throughout the trip apart from taking our money. We saw very little wildlife as promised and was cut short, guides had very little communication bordering on unsafe, basically an expensive boat ride. Have tried numerous times to contact the company but they continue to ignore all correspondence, highly unprofessional please avoid this company.

          Best day in New Caledonia!
This “safari” day trip was just incredible! Mana nautic is a family run business, they pick you up from the hotel in a minibus and you go to launch beach (make it clear if you only speak English up front so thy can repeat safety instructions about boat and wildlife for you!) The guide and boat skippers were super friendly and lively, having a laugh and explaining and pointing out all sorts of sights and animals as we went along. We were lucky to see dolphins twice, turtles twice, and manta rays several times. On our final snorkel dip in the reef some of the group also saw a reef shark! We stopped at Brush island which is paradise (literally, off a postcard)! Totally remote, there was no one else there and we had this incredible lunch of lobster and snails which they cooked up in a camp-like kitchen on the island! The utensils and set up are a bit rough and ready, but have a certain charm and authenticity. Apparently they catch the lobster themselves snorkelling and the snails come from the forest locally. It’s worth noting that you should probably only do this trip if you’re happy and confident snorkelling in the water, it’s not a snorkelling lesson and you have to be ready jump in and out of the boat quickly to see animals when they appear. You need to be quite fit to hoist yourself back into the boat on the little steps with a rope. Well worth the cost and time to do this, it was our favourite day of the entire trip!

Last minute cancellation by them; no English; not replying emails
I emailed this companies 2 days before I booked with them, asking a few questions. I never got any reply. Then I booked using their website, which was all in French despite I selected the English option. They were one of the only 2 tour companies on the Isle of Pines which had a presence on the internet. Their bank pre-authorised the amount of money on the credit card and I got their email; I took it as a sign of confirmation. Then 8:02pm (20:02) on the night before, they sent a generic ANNULATION (cancellation) email in French, citing personal reasons. Still, they didn't bother writing in English. Please don't bother booking with them if you don't understand French. It's not worth the hassle. Just walk off the cruise terminal. Plenty of street sellers offering tours for AUD$25/person. We paid €30 for 2 people and had a great time.

          Dont waste your money
I have travelled all over the world, and this trip was by far the worst i have ever experienced. Very mickey mouse company. Unsafe and unprofessional. Do yourself a favour and save your money. When we complained it took them 9 weeks to respond (after about 8 emails) and basically made us out to be liars!! DONT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY. You have been warned :-)

Water sports, great beaches, clear blue water, swimming with Mantra Rays and Turtles
We are a group of 10 friends on a recent 8 days Celebrity X cruise to New Caledonia. We booked Mana Nautique for our Isle of Pines excursion as they are a lot cheaper than the cruise organised excursion. Cost about AUD$100 for each person. We had trouble finding the boat as we were directed to wait at the shoreline on leaving the cruise tender and spent an hour waiting. However we were later directed to walk about half kilometer up towards town to find them waiting for us. That was the only hiccup. We had a wonderful 6 hours spent in the water, sand and boat. We swam with mantra rays and sea turtles. Snorkeling in pristine clear blue water in the reef where Monique, the bubbly fun loving guide, swam with us and took us to look out for the best coral reef. She organised a beach party with the locals playing tug of wars, musical "chairs" with slippers etc etc. All of us had a great time. This cruise would be a lot less memorable if not for this adventure filled, Isle of Pines excursion with Mana Nautique!

          Overpriced and no English spoken
Unfortunately what should have been a wonderful tour through the pristine waters and beaches of this stunning island was overshadowed by the lack of communication by crew. Firstly we were told we would be picked up by bus after arriving on our cruise ship. After the bus refused to stop twice for us despite standing in front and trying to wave it down, an English speaking person told us to wait by a small beach. When the bus finally returned and after paying our $150 AUD for the trip, we were ushered into a zodiac. The brochure states we were to receive a safety briefing and outline of the activities.... this never occurred. There were 14 of us on board, adults and children, crammed around the boat and the guide spoke no English whatsoever. We had no idea what to expect. There was no safety briefing and we had no idea where or if there were any lifejackets on board. The water was quite rough during our visit finally the guide gesticulated for us to put our bags under the seat... that’s where we found the lifejackets. Not knowing what to expect, we soon became soaking wet from the spray. Funny to start with but not after constant drenching for the entire duration of the tour. At one stage the guide anchored the boat then dived into the water, leaving ya on the boat with no idea what was happening”. He also did the same when he went to the turtle which is held for tourists to touch. At lunch, we were given a table to ourselves, away from the French speaking tourists and left to our own devices. No effort was made to communicate with any of us. Due to the language barrier we had no idea of any of the Island names we had visited . It certainly wasn’t anything like what was described in the brochure. The lack of English spoken ruined what should have been a great trip. Overpriced for what was offered and don’t expect any English to be spoken. Would not recommend this tour to anyone. Now I know why the cruise ship didn’t offer it as a tour.

One of the highlights of our South Pacific Experience!
We booked this tour online before arriving by cruise ship and we are so glad we did! Overall the tour offered a beautifully diverse day set against the backdrop of what can only be described as paradise. The linkup after getting off the cruise tender was a bit untidy, we were not exactly sure where we needed to be, but the locals all know Mana Nautique and directed us to the right spot adjacent to a small beach 100m down the road and shortly there after the staff showed up and processed our payment and organized the group. RHIBs arrived on the beach and we loaded up to head out for the days adventure on the water. The islands and scenery are simply breathtaking, aqua marine blues and snow white sands everywhere, and the sea life does not disappoint as well. We made several stops to get in the water, swimming with sea turtles, a variety of tropical fish, and the highlight for us, giant manta rays! Incredible. We had a beach break as well, more crystal clear water and powdered sugar beaches, and a chance to meet a sea snake or two coiled up in the palms along the shoreline. We then headed over to the motu for a first class lunch, and a solid couple hours on one of the most beautiful white sand beaches we have seen. All in all it made for a very memorable and exciting day, and we were very satisfied with the tour from start to finish. We would repeat this tour in a heartbeat, and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the island. Simply excellent!

Amazing experience on the Ile Des Pins
My partner and I booked back to back tours with Mana Nautique on our whirlwind 2 day trip to the Ile Des Pins and couldn't be happier. Mana picked us up from the Betico boat and whisked us away to our boat tour allowing us to only miss 30 minutes of the tour (we didn't miss much at all!) They took us on the boat where out of nowhere the driver dives into the water and guided a turtle to the surface we were able to dive in and swim with. We also visited an amazing sandbar in the middle of the ocean, did snorkelling off a small island and saw sharks, sea snakes, amazing coral and hundreds of fish. We had an amazing lunch on another small island tucked away as well as coffee and cakes. Just when we thought the tour was finished, we found mana rays and turtles on the trip back allowing people to continue snorkelling if they wanted. Our second trip was on the Pirogues. We were picked up from our hotel in the morning and taken out to our pirogue which took us up the amazing Baie d'Upi. It was serene! After which, we walked 45 minutes to the natural acquarium for more amazing snorkelling very up close. The bus picked us up at 3pm, before taking us back to our hotel. Everything was incredibly well run from start to finish. Whilst some French would be helpful as not all staff members speak English, we found everything is so well run you shouldn't have any problems (plus half the tour groups we were with were French and spoke English as well as)

You'd be a fool to miss it! Highlights of Isle of Pines
First, a tip: Bring cash on the day! We wrongly assumed we'd paid ahead by credit card but this was not the case. Luckily we had cash on us. This trip is definitely for French speakers, but Monique did her best to translate for us anglophones (and Japanese) on board. I think we only got about 70% of the information but the nature speaks for itself. Even with 0% information it would have been good. Beware this is NOT a "look but don't touch" nature tour. There was a fair bit of poking and prodding of nature, which was a bit confronting, but no real harm was done. We saw some incredible things, including several sharks and a GIGANTIC stingray, in addition to the resident turtle (which was fairly illusive but eventually found). I was pleasantly surprised by the shade cover provided on the boat, and we spent enough time in shaded places that the sun never got overbearing. With that said, half the day was hanging around on the island after lunch, which wasn't particularly exciting (except for the magnificent crabs). I don't know how you would see these sites on your own, and you REALLY shouldn't mark Isle of Pines off as 'done' if you've only been to the natural swimming pool (the snorkeling there is nothing in comparison to the places Mana Nautique takes you). You can see everything you need to see in 1 easy day, so go for it!

          Great day out
We were collected from our hotel and taken to the beach and onto the boat. Two other couples joined us and three crew on board. Jonathan had excellent English which was helpful for us as everyone else spoke French. Life jackets were offered but no-one took them. On reflection this was probably silly - they should at least be carried on the boat. We went turtle hunting and eventually found one. All into the water to get acquainted before it was sent on its way. Also spotted rays and sharks and dolphins. Time on a white sand island followed by a delicious lobster lunch. Some snorkelling over a lovely reef was spectacular. A fun day out with friendly people. Expensive, but so is everything in New Caledonia!

          Amazing Day!!
What a fun, packed day Mana Nautique gave us! We were visiting Isle of Pines by cruise ship so only had a few hours there. After being picked up at the cruise port, we were driven to their location where we got onto a tiny boat and first saw Upi Bay, filled with huge rock formation on the water. It was stunning and I could have looked at them for hours. Next we went to turtle bay. One of the guides picked up a sea turtle and let us all touch it and take pictures with it. It was amazing! Then we went to a private little beach in the middle of the ocean. It was so pristine and untouched and the sand so white it was blinding. Monique had us play tug of war and musical chairs using shoes and I found this to be a great, fun touch and good bonding. Last we had lunch on another island- and it was filled with hundreds of huge hermit crabs, so cool! There were snacks before lunch and lunch was absolutely incredible- I got the snails which were ginormous and a really cool experience. The lobsters also looked to-die for. We had some free time to explore the beach and area before heading back. What a perfect day! Would do it again!

Total Waste of time and money to pre-book the private tour
We were a group of 10 people arriving Isle Of Pines on cruise and we organised well beforehand Mana Nautique a private tour for 9,900 CFP each (AUD $120) with lobster lunch. Mana Nautique have added 4 other people to our group in the bus, that's fine. However, the mini bus just stopped in a number of places and there's minimal explanation whatever. When we got back to the terminal, we found that other operators charged AUD $25 for the same places we went and AUD $20 for lobster lunch. What a rip off.

Below average experience The island to which they took us would have been amazing in the right weather. However, the trip should really have been cancelled. It was bucketing down with rain and windy on the day we went and despite it being possible to take to the sea on a boat, the pleasure of the guests should really have been taken into account. Everyone was cold and saturated shivering and miserable. My partner and I waited over an hour for 6 other members of the group to arrive at the meeting point at the start of the day which obviously left a bad taste in our mouth. Taking a tour out in such inclement weather felt like a money grab. The group as a whole decided to end the tour early and come back as it was so unenjoyable. Really felt like something of a refund should have been in order. At least the guide was nice enough to arrange the shuttle to take us back early and wait for it to arrive..
