Do you know that Nagoya was once the center base of Samurai culture? During the Sengoku period in the 16th century when Samurai played an active role, the Owari district including Nagoya is known as the place where the most famous “Sengoku Daimyo”, powerful Japanese feudal lord, were from, such as “Oda Nobunaga”, “Toyotomi Hideyoshi” and “Tokugawa Ieyasu”. Why don’t you experience Japanese culture such as Japanese calligraphy and tea ceremony with English in a Kominka house in the city of Samurai culture “Nagoya”? We will welcome you at a special place where people actually used to live, not sightseeing facilities. Once you step inside, you will see the good old days of Japanese houses such as tatami mats, Shoji (paper walls) and traditional Japanese gardens which are rare today. With this quiet space, you can experience Japanese culture such as Japanese calligraphy and tea ceremony while understanding the history. This would be the special experience for your visit to Japan.

We had an amazing experience and would absolutely recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about Japanese culture. Our hosts were wonderful and made us feel very comfortable during our visit, they were also happy to answer any questions we had, and we learned a lot! The tea ceremony was performed with skill and grace, and we got better with the excellent instruction from our calligraphy teacher. The house is also really beautiful, what a perfect setting! We are so grateful we booked thi

Yuzo and Kumi are so welcoming into their traditional Japanese home. I really enjoyed the experience of the calligraphy and tea ceremony. They are very patient and great teachers! They even ordered us a taxi back to our hotel when the session was over. Would recommend giving them a visit to anyone in the Nagoya area looking to have a snippet of Japanese culture.

Incredible experience that will remain one of the favorites of our trip. We highly recommend if you pass through Nagoya!

The hosts welcomed us warmly into their traditional Japanese house. Both parts were exceptional, both the introduction to calligraphy (it was a first for me!) and the tea ceremony.

As the host would say: “ichigo ichie”: a once-in-a-lifetime event and encounter. Thank you for the numerous explanations and this unparalleled welcome.

(At the end of the experience, you will have the opportunity to purchase items for calligraphy or even tea)

The hosts were absolutely amazing! So welcoming and so nice! We learned a lot about the history of Japan, the ancient tea ceremony and the meaning behind it. And what it means and the step by step ritual they do. And the calligraphy was totally amazing and so much harder than it looks but absolutely so peaceful.

With an extensive knowledge of Japan and many different tea ceremonies attended we can simply state that a tea ceremony here is a highlight! Done with such respect and clear instructions it is a great way to learn more about the complex tea ceremony and to experience it in all tranquility.

The ancient wooden house breathes authenticity and the owners who set up this business take care of it as well as the customers with the utmost respect.

The calligraphy workshop is an excellent way to learn more about its history and the technique behind. You will never look at a Japanese scroll again in the same way after this workshop!

The hosts are very kind and welcoming and excellent in what they do. We can highly recommend this combined workshop far away from the touristy ones you will find in Kyoto.

An unforgettable experience, recommended for those looking for something more genuine and less touristy.
Yuzo-san and Kumiko-san were wonderful hosts. Two and a half hours flew by. Yuzo-san was a kind and patient calligraphy teacher. The tea ceremony conducted by Kumiko-san was above all expectations. Elegance and precision in every movement. The whole thing takes place inside a traditional Japanese house. One has the impression of being transported to another era. If you are in the area, I highly recommend this experience.
