We came back from our basket boat ride and found that four dishes were ready for us to make- banana flower salad, cau lau noodles, mushroom pancake and stuffed grilled chili. My group was just 3 of us and met an amazing Australian couple who were so sweet. - 80jadas0 contributionsAmazing! So lovely! Amazing warm welcoming smiles and every gesture is so kind. My Tour guide In would find the most beautiful scenery and stop and ask if I would like to take a photo! I said yes and was very excited and happy I did not have to ask! Now I have these beautiful photos of Vietnam I get to share with my friends and family 🥰 So much fun, so much to see and do, I am very grateful to have found this experience 🙂 The wood making class was very informative, and honestly a lot of fun! Again, very kind and a sweet relaxing experience.. I got to keep my wood art as a souvenir I will cherish forever, and also got to learn a new skill! So much fun! Learning the tips and tricks to carve beautiful wood art is the cherry on top 🥰🫶🏽Written 16 November 2024

We booked this tour to give a rounded idea of Vietnamese market shopping, cooking, and environment. I will say that we did this tour just before Lunar New Year and that may have had an effect on the experience and we did have a very big group of 13 people
1: Market Tour (2/5) - this consisted of walking through the market and watching our tour guide buy the food. Not much was said about the ingredients or about the culture of the market. Ultimately you could do the same thing by wandering through by yourself at night time
2: Cooking class 4/5 - you take a bus ride out to the river where we got separated into groups. The chef gave out ingredients to various paired people and you took turns preparing the individual items for the dish. It wasn’t overly informative and you didn’t leave with the recipes but were promised them being sent out later. The food was very tasty though
3: Boat ride 1/5 - this felt rushed and ultimately a relatively unnecessary part of the tour. I was given an oar and did most of the paddling myself. We pulled into the reeds and tried to catch some crabs with a piece of meat on a stick and the crabs caught looked like those small crabs you often see near beaches and in rock pools etc. The most disappointing part of this whole experience is once you start heading back to shore the boat people aggressively start harassing you for a tip which you feel pressured in to giving
Overall I personally did not feel it was worth all the good reviews and maybe others have had a very different experience to my own. I personally would recommend a different cooking experience without all the bells and whistles

We had a really good time and would fully recommend to anyone spending time in Hoi An. The staff were really friendly and Chef Tam was very helpful and insightful when performing the cooking class. The food was absolutely stunning and would 100% recommend buying the additional red snapper if it is an option. We were done by 12pm so had the rest of the day to enjoy Hoi An afterwards. Thanks again to Chef Tam and the rest of his family!

This tour is one I would recommend to anyone who is looking to become more culturally aware and appreciative, as you will learn about the food that you make and consume.
Ms. Kim reached out one day ahead of the tour with all important information. On the day, I was told that other participant dropped out, so my wife and I had our own special private tour. Ms. Kim is very knowledgeable and taught us everything about the local market and the amazing foods you can buy there. Once the shopping was done, a grab scooter came and picked me up while Ms. Kim took my wife to the main location.
Once we arrived at the main location, we were greeted with coffee and tea, followed by an unforgettable local boat ride that included crab fishing. The sweetest lady taught us songs that we continued to sing.
After catching one crab, it was time to go back and meet up with CHEF TAM! 10/10! He made this experience extremely special. He took his time with us and really educated us about the spices and foods that we were making. He also always was willing to take pictures while we were cooking.
Once the meals were prepared, we tasted the food that we cooked ourselves. Please don’t underestimate the feeling of satisfaction and pride that comes from cooking an amazing authentic meal with your own hands. We loved every second of it and we will recommend this tour to any of our friends that will step foot in Hoi An!

The agenda is interesting, from morning shopping at the market to buy ingredients to cooking in the kitchen to ending the session with crab fishing.
The platter is nice, salad, peanut tofu and spring roll are all nice but the cao lau noodles are not quite to our liking, yet was given a huge portion hence a lot of leftovers by all the participants. I would suggest in future just a sampling size is good enough since taste is subjective.
While the crab fishing in the lake is fun, one action that took me and the lady (similar age in our 50s) by surprise was the sudden spin. We both had vertigo and wanted to vomit. I would suggest the crab fishing to come first before cooking. The younger participants may appreciate the spin but not for some older participants like us, crab fishing in a boat right after lunch and spinning the boat is no no. I suggest the paddlers check with elder participants in advance. As a result, we both had very bad giddiness and had to go for head massages, back at the hotel rested for the rest of the day. Overall I would still recommend this tour despite the unforeseen. Thank you.

What an amazing tour! Everything you want to know about cooking and the boat ride in one. The cooking class was so authentic, they give you so much food and even send you the recipe straight after. I loved the basket boat, the local tour guides sang on the trip and we went during sunset and it was beautiful. This is a beautiful tour and one to remember for sure. If you’re thinking about doing a cooking clas, book this one as you won’t regret it. Thanks so much to Kim and Chef Tam.

This was a very poor quality cooking class and we were left very disappointed. Strongly would not recommend.
The duration of the actual cooking experinece is only about 60mins. The rest of the time is spent waiting around while they try to sell you beers or coffee. A lot of the prep work is already done when you arrive and they hurry the course to get the next group in.
You don't learn how to cook anything from start to finish. One person chops garlic, another chops spring onions etc. Two cooking pans per group of 12 means you won't actually cook most of the meals you eat.
The instructor does not speak or understand English well enough to answer questions about Vietnamese food and does almost no explaining about the food prep.
The food was very ordinary, we have had much tastier meals from restaurants and the night market in Hoi An. Dessert consisted of frying a banana in a pan - haven't seen that on any Vietnamese menus?!
The market tour was interesting but felt rushed. Crab fishing was interesting but not why we went on a cooking class.

The market trip was very good and interesting, didn’t take long to go around the market while our guide paid for the food. The coconut boat trip was fun because we had a very old lady who was crazy rowing the boat who made it very funny. Only managed to catch one tiny crab as it seemed to be out of season.
The best part of the trip was the cooking class which was a lot of fun and fairly beginner friendly. The food we cooked tasted amazing.
Our guide su su was a lot of fun and made the day very enjoyable.

Cooking portion of the experience was lots of fun and the crab fishing during the boat ride was a blast! However, there was a lot of wasted down time during the experience and we had a bad experience with pickup/dropoff. Overall I would not recommend and suggest you find a different cooking class in Vietnam as the actual cooking experiences are great.

Amazing tour guide who educated us on several aspects of the market and Hoi An community. We had a fun time with a local fisherman where we caught fish, crab, and watched the bamboo boat dance. The cooking class was very well done - and very tasty! Honestly some of the best food we’ve had in Vietnam so far (and it wasn’t our cooking skills).
This is a must do to experience! Don’t eat breakfast before - there was so much food and the tour was kind enough to cook the fish we caught

Our hostel booked our tour so we didn’t really know what to expect, but it was so worth it! The tour is jam packed with activity; we thought we’d be gone for an hour just to cook, but the market and crab fishing were an added bonus. It’s a great, immersive way to see the city and experience local culture and food. Would highly recommend.
