The host was very funny and well-practiced, and the surrounding team were a great support to everyone taking part in the workshop making sure no one screwed things up too badly :) Everyone was in good spirits thanks to the hosts ability to keep everything relaxed and fun. The people that ran the workshop were nice, the setting was chill enough that you can enjoy the whole experience—no rushing, just a fun, relaxed atmosphere. We got to make 5 types of Vietnamese coffees—full sized! We def had a coffee buzz afterwards but it was worth it—our faves were the salt coffee and coconut coffee—delicious! Vietnamese coffee packs a punch but goes down smooth. We left with a few bags of coffee to bring back home. Happy to support this locally owned family business! We spent a very fun afternoon doing our own lantern. The team is young, cheerful and very friendly. You can choose different colours and shape for your latern,they have very beautiful ones. You are the one making your latern, the team will be supervising, helping you out and giving you tips. We highly recommend this activity as part of the experience of exploring Hoi An and understand the culture and history of the city. Very fun!

So enjoyable getting to learn how to make lanterns alongside the family that runs the business. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to get to experience some hands on local art and great conversations with both locals and those learning alongside you. Definitely a must do if you’re in the area.

This lantern making class is an absolute MUST for your visit to Hoian! Our family of five had a fantastic experience here. The lantern making workshop is an easy walk from Hoian old town, the lanterns are easily collapsed and transported home and the staff are absolutely delightful and make the whole experience such fun. Len helped all five of us craft our lanterns with endless patience, ensuring the finished product was impressive despite our limited skill! We made our lanterns from scratch (which took us about 3 hours- but we were slow); there is also a 1 hour option if you have limited time. We can’t wait to hang our lanterns together at home. Thank you Len!

2 hour class with 5 members of the group. The two men running the class were very talented, patient and good fun. We made a latern each from scratch, we got to choose the shape and material. We got a welcome drink and water when required. Some of our group bought a couple of laterns at the end which were beautifully hand painted and very good value for money. Would definitely recommend this class for anyone visiting Hoi An.

My boyfriend and I just had the best time making our lanterns with this wonderful family. The class is about 2.5 hours and it is so much fun. You can take the lanterns with you as the fold up nicely to pop in the suitcase. The instructors teaching are so accommodating and patient if you’re slow/not good at art. These guys made us feel right at home, they even took us to their favourite dumpling restaurant around the corner as well as taking us to a wonderful tailor who was got a perfect suit made off! Our lanterns were just great, highly recommend :)

My boyfriend and I booked this class when we stayed in Hoi An. Such an amazing experience! We both enjoyed making these from the frame to adding the silk onto the bamboo (with lots of help). The staff were amazing and patient with us! I would definitely recommend everyone trying this! It took us about 2 hours to complete the lanterns and we got to take them home! Amazing!

It was absolutely phenomenal! We found it by accident and booked it because it sounded “cool” (everyone can buy a lantern but not everybody can make one) but we fell in love with the experience. Everything about it was great - the staff was very friendly and welcoming, the place screamed “we make lanterns here and we’re good at it!!” and all the guests were focused yet still enjoying themselves. I would 100% recommend this class to anyone in or around Hoi An ❤️

This was such a fun thing to do in Hoi An and what a beautiful homemade souvenir to take home! The staff were very friendly and helpful when making the lanterns, it does take some time but totally worth. Such a great unique experience to book. Would highly recommend doing this!

If your looking for something a bit different then consider lantern making.
You can either do 1.5 hours (just covering the bamboo frame) or 2.5 hours (building the bamboo frame and then covering it) course.
Our teacher was attentive and fixed our mistakes as the techniques are trickier then they appear.
The end result for my wife and myself we 2 beautiful complementary souvenirs of Hoi An.

We really enjoyed making lanterns! It is actually more challenging than you might think… it took us 2,5 hours, which also included the (hi)story behind the lantern.
Besides creating a lantern, you can also buy the lanterns that are made by them and others at the shop. After finishing our sunrise and sunset lantern, we bought two beautiful lanterns; one of them hand-painted! It’s very different from the ones you can get at the town.
We can definitely recommend this workshop to give you just a little more extra Hoi An ;)

Sorry for the delay in my response! Still traveling.
We used our hotel (Thanh Van 1, which we recommend!) to contact the lantern making class. Your hotel may be able to get in touch with them and arrange the morning.
Also, you can definitely pay a little more to make more than one (~200k VND). We did the 2-hr class and we’re able to talk them into giving us a smaller one (pre-covered) for a takeaway!

Yes, you can fold it. We are back in Belgium and all our lanterns survived the plane. So it's easy.

Crissie is right about the morning classes. There are also two in the afternoon - at 2pm and 3pm.
