About
This tour takes you to Pergamon, one of the finest archaeological sites in Turkey. The city was a great cultural centre of culture and the capital of the East during the reign of the Roman Empire. After a short cable car ride, you will have a birds-eye view of the local surroundings. You will see numerous ruins including the celebrated Library, the steepest theatre in Anatolia, the Temples of Trajan and Dionysos, the location of the Altar of Zeus which is famous for its relief with God and devils, the Sanctuary of Demeter, the Gymnasium situated on terraces, and the lower Agora. After a delicious lunch with Turkish specialities, you will visit the Archaeological Museum in Bergama, before proceeding to the Medical Center of the ancient world -- the Asclepion -- where the first psychological treatments were performed and which was dedicated to the God of Health, Asclepios. You will return to Izmir in the evening.

- atisb0 contributionsIt’s an unique experienceSuch a huge milky white area in a rocky terrain with so many natural pools with varying colour ( accordingly the sun’s illumination). The water flows from the upper strata downward filling the all natural pool above. It’s really a unique experience.Written 2 January 2024
- martinbS7265QA0 contributionsA must-see in TurkeyActually, there is nothing to write. It has to be seen. You won't take a nice photo there, the whole site is currently under a roof, steel ropes and supports everywhere, but in this case it's understandable. The place is absolutely amazing when you realise what time it comes from and confront this knowledge with the artistry of the sculptures. It really is a must-see.Written 11 September 2023
- serhatky0 contributionsGobeklitepe archaeological site is worth to see. However, the exhibition museum and city of Urfa is total disappointmentIndeed, Gobeklitepe is accepted and known as start of civilization and first temple of the world. Ancient findings are magnificent to see. Excavation site has been found and arranged with great works of german archaeologist claus schmidt. However, exhibition area which later designed by turkish local authorities is quite disappointing, bcs it is not something worth to that great archeological site for entire world.Written 5 August 2023

- Ramadama0 contributionsAmazing site dating back to 9500 BCThis is an amazing site and anyone interested in archeology and history will really appreciate this site. So fat they have uncovered 4 circles and are excavating 14 others. This is the oldest temple or structure discovered to date. The T slabs are amazing with the etchings and carvings. Very worth visiting.Written 11 September 2022
- M1320220 contributionsWonderful tour!!I scheduled this tour of Hattusa through the Viator website. I was traveling in Turkey as a solo female traveler and without a rental car, so I wanted to find a way to visit Hattusa safely and easily. Public transport options might be available, but they were difficult to find and ascertain any schedules for buses or otherwise ahead of time (and taking a taxi all the way from Ankara to Hattusa would be expensive as well as a little concerning for a solo female traveler). Scheduling a guided tour of the site seemed to me the best way to get myself there as well as learn a lot from a professional. It turned out to be a wonderful decision, as I felt completely safe and happy the entire day from the start to the end of the tour and definitely got far more out of it than I expected. I had a private tour with a guide and a driver in a very nice vehicle. My guide, Tayfun, was excellent - very knowledgeable and so friendly and kind. It was wonderful to get to meet him and talk with him about the ancient history of Hattusa and Yazilikaya, and - although it was not a standard stop on the tour - he also took me to a third site, Alacahoyuk, which was such a wonderful surprise. He also gave me a lot of great advice on other places to see in the region, museums and mosques to see in Ankara, and even contacted other tour guides in other cities to try to help me set up transportation for some other archaeological sites I had planned on visiting. I had an absolutely wonderful time, and I can certainly recommend my tour guide and driver to anyone wanting to time travel to the Hittite Empire. :)Written 8 July 2022

- amran_tasrif0 contributionsHistorical Experience - Ephesus Day TourWent on a “private” group tour. It is winter and due to lesser visitors, we got a private tour for a group tour price. From Izmir, it took about 45-60min to arrive at the Ephesus. There was an optional rest room stops along the way. Our guide, Belkant, did a fantastic job of explaining all the sites in Ephesus and later, the Home of Virgin Mary, which was on top of a mountain near Ephesus. The tour included a good Turkish lunch at carpet factory. Of course, there was the “flying carpet” show to entice potential buyers. We learnt a lot about the Turkish carpet industry but we are not a big fan of carpets in general. So politely, we declined all their offers.Written 9 December 2018
- Laurie P0 contributionsEphesus TourAmazing experience walking the marble pathway, viewing this ancient city. Well worth the extra $ to tour the terrace housing. History really came to life. Bring an umbrella and lots of water on a hot day. Skip the remains of the Temple of Artemis. There is very little there.Written 12 August 2017
- Flannery520 contributionsVery Good ChoiceEphesus Tour Travel We took this 8-hour tour with about 25 cruise ship passengers from Kusadasi to Izmir and Ephesus. We had an excellent driver and knowledgeable guide. In Izmir (an hour's drive from the port), we went to the overlook with castle and cistern; the clock tower and square; a large bazaar with cafe (we were served Turkish coffee or apple tea, baklava, Turkish Delight, and raisins); and a nearby mosque and, on the way back to the cafe, a look at a couple shops but no time to shop. We were served lunch on the bus (sandwich and apple; vegetarians accommodated) and then stopped at a rug shop which had an excellent demonstration. But, as expected, we were then taken to a large room for rug displays (and served complimentary wine, tea, raki, and cheese rolls). This stop took entirely too long, up to 1 1/2 hours, shortening our stay in Ephesus; what's more, we were told this side trip would be optional (it was not). We were given 1 1/2 hours in Ephesus, including the Terrace Houses (no extra charge - wow!!), but it was just not long enough. We had no time to wander, go into library, sit in theater, etc. But the Terrace Houses are a must-see; so glad they were included.Written 21 May 2015

Great experience seeing the ancient hospital ruins and the acropolis. Our guide Macide was excellent and the lunch provided was a great sampling of the local cuisine.

Jaime, we are very pleased to hear that you have enjoyed your activity in ancient Pergamon where the last king Attalus III, was less interested in ruling than in chemistry. King spent a significant time conducting experiments with poisons on criminals and died after his short reign by also leaving his realm to the Romans. We are pretty sure that you heard more and more from your guide. Hope to have you guys here in this cradle of civilization and please stay well!
