If there is a place called heaven on earth, Sirince must be a part of paradise. Dido Sotiroyo, one of the famous Greek writer who was born in this village but had to leave at the age of seven after the exchange agreement in 1925, says these words about Sirince. Road to the village through olive and tangerine trees decorated with old Greek houses at the end of winding road and delicious scent of home made wine of grapes welcomes you as a surprise in the beginning of your journey.
Despite a century of restoration, the once-great basilica built by Byzantine Emperor Justinian (r 527–565) remains a skeleton of its former self. Nonetheless, it is an atmospheric site with excellent views, and the best place in the area for a sunset photo.

Finding the tour off the boat was easy and stressfree we started first thing in the am and missed the crowds. The driver was very friendly too. From the on-time pick up from our hotel to our drop off after our busy day, she was kind, very informative and sensitive to all our needs. It’s our first trip to Turkey and Fatima gave us an extremely comprehensive, informative tour of the virgin Mary’s House, Ephesus ruins and Temple of Artemis. She also gave us a frank and honest local’s perspective of Turkish culture, history and politics. Lunch was delicious and a great introduction to local Turkish cuisine. Our visits to the rug weaving co-op was so educational and the sales pitch was non-pressurizing. The leather factory was extremely entertaining with a fashion show and we enjoyed it. She showed up 5 minutes early, and from the start showed she us her passion for her work and her vast knowledge of Turkish culture and Ephesus history. Of course the highlight was being at the ruins but we can’t forget the amazing lunch that was included in the tour. She also rearranged the itinerary so as to ensure we weren’t overcrowded by other tour companies. We were transported by a newer car with cold air con.
