Take a grand tour of Israel’s most iconic sites with an 8-night trip from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Northern Israel and Petra. Visit the archeological sites atop Masada plateau then immerse yourself in the Dead Sea; experience ancient history and Israel’s bustling, modern life, and sleep at a kibbutz near Galilee. See Jesus’ birthplace and childhood home then fly to Eilat to visit Petra, a Nabataean city carved into solid rock. Dip into the Red Sea at Aqaba, then finish your trip in Tel Aviv.

What to Expect
Discover the highlights of Israel and Petra on this 8-night tour, starting from and ending in Tel Aviv. Enjoy eight nights of 3-, 4- or 5-star hotel accommodation, including two nights at a charming kibbutz hotel, and breakfast each morning.

Traveling by luxurious, air-conditioned coach, your tour includes panoramic and guided walking tours at the key sites, return flights between Tel Aviv and Eilat, and round-trip airport transfers in Tel Aviv and Eilat. Aside from breakfasts and Day 8 lunch, all meals and drinks are at your own expense.
Itinerary
Day 1: Tel AvivStart your tour with a transfer from Ben Gurion Airport to your Tel Aviv hotel. Then, spend the rest of the day and evening at your leisure.
Overnight: 3-star Seanet or Gilgal hotel, 4-star Metropolitan or Grand Beach hotel, or 5-star Crowne Plaza or Dan Panorama hotel in Tel Aviv

Day 2: Tel Aviv – Beersheba – Masada Dead Sea – Jerusalem (B)Meet your guide after breakfast and travel by air-conditioned coach through Ashdod and Ashkelon to Beersheba in the Negev Desert. See some of the town’s sights and continue to Masada near the Dead Sea, where a semi-crumbled fortress built by King Herod crowns a mountaintop.
Hear how the mountain saw the last stand of the Jewish Zealots against Roman forces in 73 AD, and ride the cable car up the mountainside to view the excavations, including Herod’s Palace, bathhouses and a synagogue.
Soak up the epic views over the Dead Sea below before descending to re-join your coach. Then, continue onward to this famous inland sea, the lowest point on Earth. If you wish, put on your swimwear and enjoy free time to float in the salt-rich waters. After, continue to Jerusalem, passing Ein Gedi, an oasis-filled nature reserve of waterfalls and canyons, along the way.

In the evening, relax with free time at your hotel in Jerusalem.
Overnight: 3-star Gate or Rimonim hotel, 4-star Grand Court or Leonardo hotel, or 5-star Crowne Plaza Dix or Dan Panorama hotel in Jerusalem

Day 3: Jerusalem (B)Admire panoramic views of Israel’s capital from Mt Scopus after breakfast, and drive past the haunting Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed before his crucifixion. Pass the richly decorated Church of All Nations on the Mount of Olives, and hear how it holds a segment of rock that Jesus is said to have prayed on before his arrest.
Next, head for the Israel Museum, and enter the Shrine of the Book, the repository of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Gaze at these hallowed parchments — the oldest group of Old Testament manuscripts ever found — and wonder at how they remained preserved in clay jars until they were recovered from caves near the Dead Sea in the 1940s and 1950s.
Walk on from here to view the museum’s outdoor Model of Ancient Jerusalem. This richly detailed scale model depicts Jerusalem as it was at the time of the Second Temple and presents a fascinating window into the past.
Continue to nearby Yad Vashem, a museum that honors the Jews killed in the Holocaust. Explore its moving exhibits, then journey through the village of Ein Karem, the birthplace of St John the Baptist. If time allows, enjoy a brief visit to Jerusalem’s famous Mahane Yehuda market. Soak up the noise, bustle and color of the jumble of food, spice and homeware stalls before returning to your hotel for the evening at your leisure.
Overnight: 3-star Gate or Rimonim hotel, 4-star Grand Court or Leonardo hotel, or 5-star Crowne Plaza Dix or Dan Panorama hotel in Jerusalem

Day 4: Jerusalem (B)After breakfast, enter one of the gates in the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City for your walking tour. Pass through the Jewish quarter and gaze at the Western Wall, known as the ‘wailing wall’, where devotees press prayer notes between the stones. Then, amble through bustling bazaars to the Via Dolorosa, the road Jesus followed to Calvary. Retrace his steps along this sacred Christian path to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, built on the site of his crucifixion.
After, set off for Mt Zion and visit the Room of the Last Supper, believed to stand where Jesus’ had his last meal with his disciples, and the Tomb of King David, home to a velvet-draped cenotaph to Israel’s great king.
Next, travel to Bethlehem, revered by Christians as the birthplace of Jesus. When you arrive, take in Manger Square and visit the atmospheric Church of the Nativity. Admire the interiors of this hallowed church and descend into its Grotto to view the star in the floor that marks the spot of Jesus’ birth. Later, return to your hotel in Jerusalem and spend the evening as you wish.
Overnight: 3-star Gate or Rimonim hotel, 4-star Grand Court or Leonardo hotel, or 5-star Crowne Plaza Dix or Dan Panorama hotel in Jerusalem

Day 5: Jerusalem – Sea of Galilee (B)Set off after breakfast and pass Jericho before traveling through the Jordan Valley to Beit Shean and its impressive archaeological park. Take a walk around the ruins of this once thriving Roman city as your guide enlightens you about its timeworn streets, bathhouses and theater.
Afterward, drive toward the Sea of Galilee, passing through Tiberias, one of Israel’s four holy cities, along the way. Trace the shores of the sea to the ancient fishing village of Capernaum. Stop to explore the ruins of its 2nd-century synagogue, believed to have been located where Jesus once taught and cast out demons. In the evening, stay at a kibbutz hotel in the Upper Galilee area.
Overnight: 3-star Kibbutz Kfar Giladi, 4-star Kibbutz Kfar Giladi, or 5-star Kibbutz Kfar Giladi Deluxe in Galilee region
Day 6: Sea of Galilee – Golan Heights – Safed – Nazareth - Upper Galilee (B)Following breakfast at your kibbutz hotel, drive deep into the idyllic Golan Heights, a mountainous area of lush hills, waterfalls and ancient ruins spread beneath Mt Hermon.
View the rusting Syrian fortifications left to bake in the sun since the 1967 Six-Day War, and travel through villages that are home to the ancient, Arabic-speaking Druze peoples. On route, stop for photos at Banias, a beautiful natural spring that is one of the sources of the Jordan River.
Continue to Safed, the center of the mystical Kabbalah religion. Visit a synagogue and then walk around its colorful and cobbled artists’ quarter, picturesquely set on a hilltop.
Next, drive to Nazareth, the holy city in the Galilean hills traditionally known as the childhood home of Jesus. Hear the biblical stories behind the town’s main religious sites and visit the Church of the Annunciation, where the Angel Gabriel is said to have appeared to the Virgin Mary, and Joseph’s Church, believed to stand on the spot where Joseph, the husband of Mary, ran his carpentry workshop.
End the day at your kibbutz hotel, with the evening free to enjoy as you wish.
Overnight: 3-star Kibbutz Kfar Giladi, 4-star Kibbutz Kfar Giladi, or 5-star Kibbutz Kfar Giladi Deluxe in Galilee region
Day 7: Upper Galilee – Acre – Haifa – Caesarea – Eilat (B)
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then travel to the port city of Acre whose past stretches back to Phoenician times. See the remains of its 12th-century Crusader town that lie below the old Muslim fortified town, and learn how they once served as the capital of the Crusader kingdom of Jerusalem.
Move on to Haifa, Israel’s third–largest city. Admire the city’s gorgeous terraced Bahá'í Gardens and Persian Garden before traveling up the slopes of Mt Carmel to take in panoramic views of the city and bay.
Continue to Caesarea, where a cluster of coastal ruins still testify to a powerful city built by Herod the Great in the 1st century BC. Hear about its turbulent history from your guide as you wander around the remnants of the Roman temple and theater, and explore the nearby Crusader-era fortifications. Later, drive to Tel Aviv domestic airport to catch a short flight to Eilat, Israel’s buzzing Red Sea resort.Make your own way to your Eilat Hotel.

Overnight: 3-star Adi or Americana hotel, 4-star Central Park or Caesar hotel, or 5-star Crowne Plaza or Dan Panorama hotel in Eilat

Day 8: Eilat – Petra – Eilat or Tel Aviv (B, L)
After breakfast at your hotel, set off for the 2,000-year-old Nabatean rock city of Petra, crossing into Jordan and passing Wadi Rum on route to this UNESCO-listed gem.
Follow the 1-mile (1.5km) Siq, the canyon into the city, and gape in wonder at the rose-pink Treasury, Petra’s showpiece. Then, head deeper into the gorge to view its tombs, monuments and amphitheater.
After your tour and lunch at a local restaurant, stop at Moses’ Spring, where Moses is said to have struck water from a rock. Then, drive to Aqaba, where you’ll enjoy a brief panoramic tour of the Red Sea resort before crossing the border back to Eilat. Stay overnight at your hotel here or transfer to Eilat airport for your flight back to Tel Aviv.
