- F1147THnicoleh0 contributionsBeautiful Balinese Home Cooking ExperiencePutu and her husband picked us up from our Villa (in Ubud) and drove us to their amazing family home. We were treated to a tour of their family temples and the incredible sustainable living environment that Putu and her family enjoy. Putu is an amazing teacher and supported us through the preparation of a 5 course traditional Balinese meal. Putu is patient, encouraging and openly shares her families rich Balinese cultural and heritage while you learn and prepare. After you eat your meal/s Putu and her family return you safely to your accommodation. The food was absolutely delicious, the experience was wonderful and I couldn’t recommend Putu’s home cooking more highly!!Written 17 March 2025
- 123nicholas3210 contributionsAuthentic Market tour & Private CookingWe had a fantastic time with Putu today. She gave us a wonderful tour of her local market and explained all the ingredients and things on offer. We were able to ask lots of questions and Putu was so knowledgeable. Her home is gorgeous, she explained all about the different aspects of Balinese life and culture. The cooking class was so hands on. I do plenty of Asian cooking at home but even I learnt several new things to take back with me to improve my skills. I would highly highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic cooking class and/or market tour to join with Putu!Written 17 February 2025
- MangoMommas0 contributionsA fun, energetic celebration of Balinese food and cultureWe've traveled the world, taking a good number of cooking classes in different countries. This class was by far the best we've experienced! We learned so much about their cooperative farming effort, and we even harvested some of our ingredients! Our team of instructors and support folks were very enthusiastic! They were delightful and affirming of everyone in our group at every stage of the meal prep! This was a fun and energetic celebration of Balinese food and culture!Written 9 January 2025
- dmburgoon0 contributionsDreamy Day with DewaMy family (11 people total) went to Dewa's home for a cooking class and it was the highlight of our trip! I enjoyed the food and his home and doing an activity together. However, the car ride to and from the house with Dewa was the most impactful. Dewa shared a bit about his philosophy on life and it was just so refreshing.Written 8 January 2025
- U5740BVsarag0 contributionsMagical experienceIncredible and unforgettable time that everyone should have a chance to experience. Dewa has such an extraordinary wealth of knowledge and shared culture, history answering all our questions and more: our kids 10 and 14 loved it especially the preparation of traditional meals that they now want to recreate at home. We highly recommend the tour and class with Dewa.Written 6 January 2025

- J4141KGlindseyp0 contributionsAmazing private cooking experience. We had the most incredible experience with Putu in her family home. We booked a private cooking experience for myself, spouse and two daughters. We were staying in Ubud and Putu and her husband Pasta came to get us to take us back to our class in their outdoor kitchen on the edge of their garden. The cooking experience was something we will never forget. The meal was delicious, her instructions were so easy to follow and Putu along with her cousin were there guiding us the whole time. Most of the ingredients came from their garden / farm which we got a chance to walk around before starting out lesson. As an added bonus Putu also showed us around her family temple and houses which was amazing to see a traditional Balinese home. I would highly recommend this beautiful experience and thank Putu and pasta for welcoming us in their home. With gratitude LindseyWritten 5 January 2025
- burlis0 contributionsA truly wonderful experienceMy partner and I had a delightful morning with our host, Putu, at her cooking experience. The market visit was well worth while, where Putu showed us many of the local foods and explained how they are used in Indonesian cooking. She even brought us some freshly prepared food and fruit at the market for us to sample. At her home we had a wonderful time visiting her family temple and garden, and of course preparing a variety of Indonesian dishes that we later feasted on until we could eat no more. Her outdoor covered cooking area is clean and spacious and efficiently run. Putu is very knowledgeable and friendly, answered all our questions and gently guided us through the food preparation and cooking processes. We highly recommend this cooking adventure with Putu and her family.Written 27 December 2024
- Kathy C0 contributionsReproducing this meal once home!!We were picked up and the wonderful private experience began. Petu is a great chef and teacher BUT more importantly a wonderful human being. If you know how to cook or not it doesn’t matter! You will learn and enjoy this time at her family Balinese compound Her grocery store is her yard. Which is so cool! Her sous chef is her cousin Maddy. We made 5 entire dishes (with all Sauces and marinades) in no time flat because she is so organized. I have done many of these cooking classes. And this is the first time I was allowed to eat anything before it was all done. I loved that. The meal and fellowship was fantastic But at the end of the night I decided my favorite “dish” was Petu. She made the whole night magical. I know I read all the reviews before I booked this experience. Nothing was over exaggerated. It was all it claimed to be! May you and your family be blessed forever Petu Kathy + BrettWritten 2 December 2024

- 496shutingl0 contributionsEnjoyable and informative activity! My friend and I enjoyed the whole event very mush. It’s 30mins driving from Ubud Sayan(Naya Ubud) and they offer pick up service. The chef Dewa gave us a very informative and interesting tour of their village which is beautiful, well maintained, and ecofriendly. You get to learn the life of traditional Balinese people. The cooking class starts after the tour. I’d suggest find at least 2-3 people to join the class together as the food will be too much for one person. Lastly, the food was 100% amazing! Highly recommended!Written 18 October 2024

- c0cktailg0 contributionsAmazing food and a brilliant family experience! This was a brilliant experience. We took a tour of a market place first, learning about the many different local ingredients, then went back to the farm to cook. The course was really great for a family activity - there were many different courses to prepare so everyone was involved. Our host was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, inviting us into her home and showing us the workings of a typical Balinese farm. And the food we made together was absolutely delicious! My only regret is that I'd eaten breakfast beforehand (still we are able to box up the copious quantities of food we didn't eat there and are looking forward to having them later!)Written 4 August 2024

Our family of 5 had an amazing time at this farm to table cooking class in a traditional Balinese home. This experience is not to be missed if you travel to Bali! We learned about Balinese customs and cooking techniques, a traditional home, a family farm and had the best Balinese food on our trip! Putu and her husband are gracious and welcoming and we had so much fun with them. The food all comes from their farm- even the coconut oil we cooked with came from the trees on their property. The fresh fruit was delicious and our teens now love mangosteen. They accommodated our request for the meal to be gluten free. Putu is organized and explains everything in detail and everyone felt right at home cooking with her. Her husband is punctual to pick you up and is happy to chat about the rice fields and places you pass as you take the short trip from Ubud to their village. We loved everything about this experience and highly recommend this cooking class if you want delicious food and to truly learn about the local culture!

I visited Putu with my family today to experience a traditional Balinese cooking class. We had such a wonderful time. Putu was open, generous and knowledgeable, explaining and answering all our questions. We were made to feel welcome and enjoyed participating in preparing Bali favourite recipes and eating the delicious feast that was made with organic produce harvested from Putu’s family land. My family and I agree that this was one of our highlights of our time in Bali and would recommend that anyone, of any age, who appreciates good food, would enjoy this as much as we did. Putu has even arranged for us to have a copy of the recipes so that we can recreate the meal when we get back to Australia. Thank you again for your generous hospitality Putu!

We were very kindly received personally by Putu. First she showed her house and family temples, and explained which temple/building is for what.
We also got a short tour of her backyard, where she grows all the ingredients herself.
She takes the time to explain everything and has a lot of patience to answer questions.
During cooking she also has a lot of patience to assist and to name and explain all the steps and ingredients.
Putu is very friendly and has a good sense of humor. It was very nice to talk to her about Bali, and she was also very interested to hear about where we come from.
For the low price she asks for it, Putu's cooking class is really highly recommended if you are interested in traditional Balinese dishes and the (local) Balinese culture.

Great one on one experience with a wonderful family just north of Ubud.
We got picked up from our accommodation in Sanur by the hosts for an extra small charge but if you are in Ubud it's included. On arrival we got a tour of the house and the garden and then got on to the cooking.
We were allowed to try all activities at our own pace and got to eat as we went. The cooking was in a lovely outdoor setting and aprons were supplied.
Putu was so generous with her tips and knowledge. Local life went on around us with next doors ducks trying to come and get food and roosters in the background.
And then we got to eat all the food we had made enjoying the peace and quiet of the local village. Each dish was exceptional with the long bean dish declared the favourite.
A great way to spend a few hours with a local family in a private experience you won't forget.

We had Putu all to ourselves for our cooking class, and the pick up and drop off from our hotel in Ubud was smooth even though our hotel wasn't listed. Putu told us about her village and their farm which provides the majority of the food for her entire family, including rice. She showed us around her home and took us through the family temple explaining what each aspect meant to them.
Her outdoor kitchen is very well organised - cooking is done in an aluminium kettle over a fire, a wok with gas burner, and a small charcoal griller. We were presented with a fresh coconut juice from her farm on arrival. We had a special request to be taught how to make sambal and Putu was very happy to oblige. We made chicken satay, tempeh manis, rice with sweet potato, corn fritters and urab. Putu watched us closely to assess our chopping and cooking skills, then gave clear instructions demonstrating correct techniques when needed. The food was delicious and Putu answered our many questions - like why is Balinese tempeh so much nicer than Australian? (Because it's made fresh).
It is very good value for money given the outstanding experience, and delicious food that we can now make ourselves. We will go back for more classes next time we visit Bali.
Terimah Kasih Putu and family!

This cooking class with Putu was an amazing experience, and will definitely be a highlight of our trip. Putu and her family are so welcoming, and made us feel at ease from the start. Putu kindly welcomed us into her home and explained her family’s traditional everyday practices in the home, and showed us her garden where she grows all of her own produce. She then lead us through cooking 5 delicious traditional Balinese meals, explaining the ingredients and each step as we went along. We had so much fun and would definitely recommend!

We had a truly fantastic time! Putu was an amazing host & teacher. She brought us to the market, welcomed us in her family home, told us about Balinese traditions and customs, and thought us a super fun and tasty meal of 5 recipes. We ate so much good food between the sweet treats from the market, some smooth homemade balinese coffee, and the giant meal we cooked together. Best Indonesian food we have ever had and my partner is Dutch :)
Very accessible & fun class regardless of your cooking skill. I’ll also note that Putu speaks great English and was very mindful of food safety & hygiene.
Would totally recommend for couples/family/small group of friends! Was one of the highlights of our trip.

We did this class as part of our honeymoon and really enjoyed it. Putu’s English is excellent and she was really clear in her explanations. She’s an incredibly impressive woman who has built a business from nothing, and it was amazing to hear her story too.
We were shown around her house and family temple, learning a lot about Balinese culture and religion, as well as getting to try new fruits and herbs. Most of what you cook with is grown in their own family garden, which is really nice.
The food was plentiful. We made five savoury dishes - rice with sweet potato, fried tempeh, a salad, satay and corn cakes. We left incredibly full and with takeaway boxes! I don’t eat chilli but my husband did, and this was catered for, which was the big plus for us over a larger group cooking class where food is shared. She also sent us really thorough instructions via WhatsApp to recreate everything we’d made at home.
Ladies - to note, you will be asked if you’re menstruating before you enter the family temple (as it’s not permitted by their religion for women to enter on their period) which I wasn’t expecting! Not an issue, but just something to be aware of.
The class is expensive for Ubud and there are plenty of cheaper options, but it’s absolutely worth it.

Putu is a really friendly and nice woman who can show you the art of Indonesian cooking with clear instructions and explanations. She also showed us around her house and was very eager to help us with any question or issue! One of the best experiences you can do in the area around ubud!! Highly recommended!!! The food was soooooo delicious and we could barely move because we ate so much of the delicious things we cooked together. Also big thank you for putus family and her husband for picking us up and driving us back to ubud. We cannot wait to come home and try to cook the food again :)
Ask her to pick you up early to go to the morning market before the cooking class! That was amazing thank you!!!

Hello! Where are you located? We would be travelling from uluwatu. Do you have any spaces this week Wednesday or Thursday? Thank you!

Hi Kristina, I suggest booking directly on Tripadvisor, it will show the dates available and after your booking it will allow you to exchange messages with the host directly.
Putu's home is in a small village not far from Ubud, so quite a ride from Uluwatu. Just leave with some time to spare as traffic can be intense, depending on the time of the day.
Hope it helps
