Part of the joy of travelling to a new destinations is learning about the culture and lifestyle of the original inhabitants of the land. This Balinese Village tour is more than just a series of photo opportunities, it is an immersive experience into the daily lives of the island’s villagers. You start your day at 8:30 am, when you’re picked-up by one of our professional drivers for your transfer you to the meeting point with your guide. Needless to say, your host belongs to the village and grew up there, and he can’t wait to let you experience the true Balinese Village Life. Set in the quaint and gorgeous Pacung Sangeh Village we will take you off the well beaten tourist track and let you enter into the real life of Balinese villagers. You will be welcomed into a real family compound in the village and be given a tour. During this excursion travellers learn about the family temple, the people who live there and the special celebrations that happen at this magical place. As this is a real home for many families you never know who will be there or what will be happening. There may be children running around or, when you’re lucky, a special ceremony taking place. This all adds to the genuine experience you are taking part in. he Balinese ladies who live in the compound will prepare you a traditional morning tea consisting of Balinese cakes, fruits, fresh coconuts & Bali Kopi. After morning tea you will experience making Canang Sari – the daily offerings made each day by the Balinese Hindus – some ladies make hundreds of these each day. You will create your own beautiful Canang Sari to be used later in the day at your blessing ceremony. For lunch you will visit a village Warung (small local restaurant), which is located amongst the rice fields and serves traditional Balinese and Indonesian dishes. You will get to choose two dishes from the menu and a drink of your choice. Enjoy the endless rice field views and the warm, local hospitality. All of the food is prepared fresh on the spot and can be as spicy or mild as you request. After lunch, you will visit the Village Holy Water site, the only Holy Water site in Bali that has a waterfall and Hidden Canyon. In this sacred site the water is considered to be Holy and hold great cleansing powers. Before entering the Holy Water site you will be dressed in a sarong and a sash. Using the offerings you made earlier today in the village, you receive a traditional blessing at the temple. For those willing to get wet, you can also experience a full cleansing ritual in the Holy Water. This includes visiting the Hidden Canyon and immersing yourself in the waterfall of the Holy Water. Patrons are guided through this practice, something many locals come to the Holy Water site to do often. The Balinese Hindus believe this ritual helps to cure disease and purify the aura and karma of past lives. After your ceremony you will have the chance to change before heading back to your resort/villa.

          Village Tour and Waterfall Ceremony
What a truly wonderful day out😁 Today I did the Bali Buddies Village Tour and Waterfall Cleansing Ceremony. The day started with a driver picking me up at hotel. He was on time, polite and curtious. His vehicle was clean, tidy and smelt great. He was a polite young man and along the drive he was happy to indicate and explain some of the sites we drove past. We arrived at the designated village and where greeted by a lovely family. 56 in total lived in this Balinese village and I was fortunate enough to meet several members of the family, all very welcoming. They explained their village, their culture and their daily way of life. It was really interesting and the village guide for the day spoke excellent english and his explanations where very well thought out. Before leaving village I was able to sample many of the different foods they cook on a daily basis at home. All was yum and I was so surprised to see how much can be done with rice, really incredible. From the village I was taken to a local restaurant and first impressions, very nice. An open, clean restaurant that had a welcoming feel about it. The staff where really lovely people and the food was in my opinion exceptional. What I expected Balinese food to be, the aromas and the taste of the food was better than any fancy place in Bali. After lunch we went to a sacred waterfall where I had the fortunate pleasure of participating in a cleansing ceremony. It was not like any other waterhole I’d seen before. It had an aura about it, calming, peaceful and spiritual. The ceremony was beautiful and gave a sense of belonging. All in all, this was a fantastic day to which I would highly recommend. From the moment I requested the booking til days end there where absolutely no hiccups and the day went very smoothly. To add to this there was no additional costs once booking was made for anything for entire day, something that can be frustrating in Bali. Thanks heaps to the team at Bali Buddies. Barry

          Great Service
My partner and I organized a driver through Bali Buddies twice on our most recent trip to Bali. On both occasions our drivers went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed and with some fantastic recommendations for lunch! Thank you Bali Buddies!

I have lived in Bali for years and holidayed for even more and this was the best experience I’ve ever been on. The wonderful Eric and his family invited us into their home and showed us how a real Bali family lives their beautifully calm existence. Then the water blessing was simply unbelievable. I was hosting a group of 12 and wanted to show them the real Bali, well this did it! Eric so eloquently explains the spirituality of this island and it’s beautiful people. It will now be the top of my suggested activities for anyone coming to Bali. Terima Kasi Eric 🙏

If you want to experience the beautiful and peaceful way the Hindu Balinese live, then this is the tour for you!
Our driver, who was amazing, took us to the village, where we were greeted by Eric, our host for the day.
We were treated to Indonesian treats and coffee.
Eric explained everything about the complex his family live in, how it all works, and how it is set up to Hindu requirements.
We met his Mum and Grandma, and his Mum made us the baskets for "canang sari" which are the traditional offering baskets. Eric described what each flower meant, and what order they go in as we made our own. It was fascinating.
He also took us to the Village cremation plot and told us about the process of bringing the ashes back to the earth.
Then, it was lunch at a traditional Warung, absolutely delicious food. (you get to choose what you want from the menu, included in the price of the tour).
After this, we thought it couldn't get any better, yet it did. It was the cleansing and purification ceremony that it central to Hindu religion. Be prepared to get wet and wear traditional dress (provided). Just let yourself go and enjoy the magical process, and scream in the waterfall.!!
Eric explained everything on each step of the way.
Eric was the most awesome host, he was so attentive and anticipated things before we even knew we needed it. He also went out of his way to take photos and videos on our phone.
Just do it! We cannot thank Eric enough for all the effort he and his family went to, to make this an experience you have to do once in your like at least!!
        Suksma Eric!!

We had an incredible day with Wayan Eric. He was passionate in sharing his family and culture with us and you could tell just how important both are to him. The lunch location was fantastic and the water blessing was something out of this world. My top tip for others is dont eat breakfast, the morning tea and lunch is more then enough for anyone. Thanks for a very lovely and insightful day Eric - The Grill’d Crew

This must be good As first time I’ve bothered to do a review 😬
I am so glad I stumbled across this tour as a typical Aussie family having been to Bali multiple times, done the usual day trips to Ubud and other temples all great but was looking for something unique / authentic, plus to give the kids a real life education type experience.

If I’m honest I was bit skeptical about how the morning would go visiting our guides home. (Would we be met with random family members popping in to try sell us stuff? Would we be met with staged Balinese dancers? )
Not at all, family came and went going about their every day lives. we got to learn about their house, eat local morning tea treats, local fruits and walk around the compound learning about Hinduism and how this plays into the every day lives of how they live. All those offerings you see with beautiful flowers placed at the front of places around Bali have so much meaning, from the colours of the flowers to what way they are positioned was so fascinating(slightly feel ignorant I’ve walked passed hundreds on my many visits in Bali and didn’t have a clue how much that gorgeous little square offering has so much symbolicalness and representation..) we then made our own offering to take to the sacred Hindu site.. a beautiful waterfall!! (Not many tourist at all go here which was great!)

If you’re keen to learn about Hinduism and go through a beautiful spiritual cleansing and blessing at this insanely amazing waterfall ..please don’t miss out on this experience. I’ve been around the world and my husband and I felt blown away by this, Was good for the soul!)
Along the way you take in incredible views of rice fields, pass monkey Forrest, and great lunch.
        No negatives to this tour!
I will say if you have kids.. (ours are 9 and 12 and really enjoyed this) worth taking into consideration couple of the following..,Remember you won’t be anywere with aircon apart from car so long day for them, also with the steep steps right next to waterfall I wouldn’t recommend for young children. Also you are off beaten track so no western toilets..prep the kids of what the hole in the ground is for lol
Eric the guide was engaging, easy to chat with (no question was off bounds) and genuine about wanting to show you his culture and give you traditional blessing. (Bonus was his amazing photo skills to capture all our moments ;) )

A massive well done to company that created this tour and have Eric guide this.. he made the experience. you have managed to create a very authentic ‘real’ experience that I am so so greatful to have done.

Wow what a lovely review to read! We are so glad you enjoyed the experience and got so much out of it. When putting this experience together one of the things we highlighted is that once people paid their fee, there is nothing else to pay. We didn't want it to feel too touristy, and more like a unique day in the life of a villager. We love that our guests arrive and really get to be in the moment and enjoy the experience. Thanks once again for your kind words, it means so much to our team!!

The whole experience was great. Our driver Marnie was very friendly and courteous. When we arrived at the village we were met by Eric, who lived in this village. He was very informative and showed and explained their culture and what village life was like. At the cleansing celebration at the lake he made sure that we able to participate in all facets of the ceremony.
The experience was not what we were expecting. It was much more.
        Recommend to anyone to do

I've been living in Bali for going on ten years and host regular visitors several times a year at our villa. All of our guests have different interests, some love culture, some love adventure, some have small kids, and some are elderly. I can always count on Bali Buddies to arrange the perfect airport pickup and fast track experience, a clean well air conditioned car, friendly driver, arrange an appropriate daily itinerary, and to charge us fairly and clearly. I've booked about ten different tours through Bali Buddies and this review is way overdue, Bali Buddies has always delived and my guests love what's been arranged. I highly recommend Bali Buddies website to plan a perfect visit too.

Personally I've been on the Cultural Tour & Cleansing Tour, this is not some touristy thing, it's a very personal look into a lovely Bali Family's life and a special visit to a very lovely waterfal of significant spiritual meaning to the Balinese and those that partake in the blessing.

        Highly highly recommended!

It was my first trip to bali with my 2 daughters 21 and 16. We wanted to see the Balinese way of life and wanted to do a cleanings whilst there. This tour was reccommended to us and it was AMAZING! It ticked all the boxes and did not disappoint, and we all walked away taking something different each with us.
We were picked up from our accommodation and taken to a beautiful Balinese families home where our guide Eric lived. We met some family members and were warmly welcomed with a traditional morning tea - so much to try! Eric spoke about his home, family, culture, history and beleifs. We toured around the home before making some of our own blessings of which we later used at our spiritual cleansing ceremony. After leaving the home we visited the families farm and rice terrace and learnt about that. We then had lunch at a local warung where you could choose what ever you wanted all included in the tour price. After lunch we headed to Taman Beni Griya waterfall and participated in the spiritual cleansning. I have no words for this place, other then you must go and see and do this for yourself. The experience was like no other and it was the most beautiful place. The experience was truly extrodinary. The 3 of us highly reccommend this tour. Eric was full of information and a wonderful guide. A must do whilst in Bali!

Hotel Sthala had an actívity of walk through a Balenese village. Each house has five seoarate units in a large courtyard.. The gate to the courtyard are two pillars and an over hanging decorated bamboo pole called penjore. The five units are residence of parents,, son and his family, kitchen, and family lounge. Respect for parents, ancestors, belief in spirits, communitu living are foundations if the Balinese village. Though like everywhere migration to urban centres are changing it.

Family and I had a great day. We learnt alot from our host Eric about his family, culture and religion. We ate well (don't have breakfast beforehand) and despite the heat found ourselves enjoying our time in the village and especially the water ceremony. A great way to immerse yourself in Balinese culture.
