We move out at 4:00 am to U Bein Bridge. You will be glad because the experience was serene. We shall arrive around 3:45 am. The ride in from Mandalay is only less than 30 minutes. There were only a few tourists wandering around the bridge so we were able to get some great photos and really see how the locals start their day. A vantage point to the right side of the bridge gives a great silhouette photo of the people crossing it.
The bridge itself is wonderfully rickety. It is exactly how you picture third-world construction. It has been built with what looks to be just nailed and you'll surprise how it is still standing. Walking across it wasn't worried though. Plenty of people cross the bridge all day so you would have to be super unlucky to be the one that falls through.
You'll be love U Bein's Bridge. Watching the monks cross. Seeing the local girls feeding the birds. Looking at the fisherman catch their breakfast. The whole place seems like something from another world and another time.
