        Very disappointed
Very disappointed with our experience in dealing with Baunti Escapes. Due to a miscommunication that the dates were changed for one of our tours we missed the bus and their attitude was pretty much too bad go back to your travel agent. Then on the fish fry we chose to sit at the end of the table so my mum could easily get in and out only to be told (quite rudely) to shift so a group of six could sit there. There were six seats on the other side of us they could have accessed. We couldn’t see the dancing girls due to the table positions. The music was good, the bus driver friendly that is pretty much the only good thing

        So interesting.
This tour was a complete surprise! Never having read a Colleen McCulloch book, I tagged along with my wife who was very keen. It turned out to be a most interesting morning, with an interesting drive out to the property and then a most personal and informative look into the house and the life of the famous writer. Our guide, Rebecca, having worked with McCulloch for many years, was a veritable mine of information and the exquisite furnishings, art and artefacts in the house was incredible. Definitely recommend this tour!

        Not so good fish fry
Unfortunately the weather was not the best for this event. However we were not impressed by the meal. We got 2 small pieces of fish and salads, such as you could get anywhere else. Mine was okay but my partners was cold and dried out. Sure you could go back for seconds. The dessert was a coconut custard pie, not very appealing. No chips. The highlight of the evening was the singer. Otherwise I would not recommend it. Perhaps I was prejudiced as I had attended a fish fry years previously which was far better.

        Tour of Colleen's home
Lovely home in idyllic surrounds. Welcomed by Rebecca and shown through many rooms; so many pieces collected by Colleen over the years are on display. Absolutely loved the 'fernery' - would love to sit there & chat to Colleen with a cuppa !

        Great Intro to Norfolk Island
9/10 for the Tour Guide on Tuesday am 7 Feb. Pick up from hotel and drop off were punctual. Knowledge as a local about local matters was excellent and general banter with the passengers was positive and uplifting. Driving skills were excellent. My only negative comment, as a person who has been on many tours in a number of countries, is that no name tag was worn by the guide. Yes, he introduced himself, but as part of a small group of other people I didn’t know, I am lucky to remember my own name!

        Good food and entertainment
Better than expected. The fish was fresh and excellent quality with thin batter. Salads were good as well with some Pacifica dishes also offered for variety. The venue is covered but open air. The local musician gave a pleasant musical backdrop with some interesting stories about his family of Pitcairners. This was followed by a hula dance ensemble of young women from the island. All in all a pleasant experience.

        Worth it
Excellent informative tour lasting around 3 hours focusing on Kingston. Our tour guide Rachel was courteous, answering all our questions and did not rush us through an itinerary. Offering water to guests would be an improvement. Highly recommended

        Keen on Kingston
Our 8th generation local tour guide, Rachel gave us a very engaging, educational, and enjoyable tour of world heritage-listed Kingston yesterday. Her extensive knowledge, complemented by rich anecdotes, gave us a real feel for the complex history of Norfolk Island. An unexpected bonus was a spontaneous visit to the newly dug-up archaeological site of a drain near Government house. It was a very pleasurable and informative afternoon, thank you.

        A Cultural Delight
This was a very interesting and informative tour. It was wonderful to be invited into a true Norfolk Islanders property and listen to island stories that would not necessarily be shared on other tours. It really gave us a great appreciation of how gifted islanders are at improvising and problem solving. This tour was truly a rich cultural experience. The tasting plate was delicious thanks to the wonderful chef and Mark the poet shared some moving island inspired poems.

A lottery - depends on the home!
Expect anything. Entree course we had a woman who gave us a comedy history of her family, which was fun. Main course the hostess produced her frail 86 year old uncle to talk about whaling, who had obvious memory loss and kept forgetting what he was saying. Sweet guy but very hard going, and not once did she come out to support or help him. Dessert course we were politely blackmailed into buying a local fundraising liqueur, while the hostess regaled us with stories of basically how fabulous she was. With 50+ people in the group there is very little (i.e. none) chance to talk to the hosts about anything, it's a case of "get in, eat, get out." Food was very ordinary. I know this tour has been around for a long time, and in theory it's a great idea, but I think the Norfolkians are doing it by numbers and just grabbing the tourist dollar, which is disappointing. Might be time to revisit the concept and do it better than they are at the moment.

        Show? What show? AVOID!
Without doubt the worst thing we have ever sat through. Three performers - you'd never call them actors - staggering through a meandering list of historical trivia, "umms" and "aahs" everywhere because they can't remember the lines, sprinkled with overworked non-jokes along the lines of "the Commandant's wife never liked an early morning cock". All three laugh at their own jokes and think they're hilarious. They're not. Done in a bland hotel function hall with no sound, no lighting, no set, cheap badly-fitted costumes and zero atmosphere. Also features a narrator who for some reason ISN'T in costume like the others, and wanders around in a caftan with a book prompting them as they all forget what they're doing. It looks exactly like what it is - a very tired tourist gimmick for a captive audience screwed out of $100 in advance, who then have to buy overpriced cheap wine from the venue. And when you think it can't possibly get any worse, the food - the soup could have been anything, meat tough as an old boot, canned gravy and tinned veggies. We escaped before dessert. This embarrassment desperately needs a writer, a real script, genuine humour, a director with imagination, some (any) attempt at production values and actors who actually know how to deliver lines rather than C-grade amateurs. I've seen pre-school shows with more cred than this garbage. Excruciatingly bad - AVOID.

Insights into the life of a celebrated literary figure.
A real thrill to visit the home of an author whose books you've read and largely enjoyed. Guided by her long time housekeeper who gave all relevant facts about Colleen but also related many little anecdotes about her that much more fully filled out the life she led and revealed quite a lot about her character. The house itself is kept as it was during her occupation and many of the pieces of art, sculpture and furnishing are of great interest in their own right. Absolutely worth experiencing.

Island Adventures 4WD Tour - great experience
My daughter and I travelled to Norfolk Island in May 2023 and this tour was our favourite. The bus driver was great and shared his knowledge without any political conversations. We visited several private properties where the views were amazing so this tour is a must for photos. We ended with morning tea at the home of a local weaver. I would not hesitate in doing this tour again on my next visit, this tour was very good value for money.

Once on the tour it is certainly not what the program states on this page, we were in a group of 40 which was just too big. We visited the banana fritter place which was OK, if you were at the back of the group then you may as well just stay on the bus, the lady doing the cooking should have been wearing a microphone. Then off to sample a tiny bit of pork sausage and some beef at someone's house and a chat about sea salt production, then to a very run down timber shed on a farm with a back breaking rough driveway then a discussion about tanning cow hides by "two women" that were not present and a super fast demonstration on Ukuleles .

Then off to a property that had two small bee hives which was the best part of the entire tour, the gentleman briefed everyone on some amazing facts about bees and honey production where a sample was offered with some local fruit.

This tour is definitely not worth the money, such lost opportunities for the places we visited, the honey man didnt have any honey to sell, the salt place had no salt to sell, no cow hides or Ukuleles for sale, I would have purchased one (a Ukulele) as they were amazing, and a recipe book on cooking bananas that was only available at a few shops in town, why not sell these products at the actual demonstrations or at the Baunti tour shop in town.....!!!s

While this is a small island with a great shopping precinct and has well set up tour itineraries, things need a polish and better perspective on what the tourists want, you have a captive audience that wants to spend their money, but its just a bit dysfunctional.

Thanks for taking the time to review the Taste of Norfolk Tour. We have passed your comments on to the providers about having more for sale items, but I believe they are finding it hard to keep up with the demand with the number of visitors to the island.

      The tour had 3 locations.
A visit to a beekeeper was a waste of time because his bees had been killed by insecticide.
A visit to a cattle farm and dairy - this was in a cliff top and very well done - congrats to the young couple who held this.
Then I couldn’t work out why we stopped at a home and were given a demonstration of cooking green bananas? It isn’t relevant (I suspect a filler to cover another venue closed by COVID)
Not worth the time or money

Thanks Roger W for taking the time to review. It was very disappointing for the bee keeper, however he had a new wild hive the next week now happily making local honey again. We are glad you had the opportunity to still taste the local honey. Regarding the venue of our chef's home overlooking the ocean, this is the cooking demonstration of our local "Norf'k wettles". These traditional dishes are handed down the generations from our Tahitian foremothers. Green Pun (Banana) fritters are one of these traditional dishes. This part of the tour is to showcase our local dishes, very relevant to Norfolk.

This was an interning trip around 4 different venues. We saw the salt makings the honey man the liquor making and all the things you can do with bananas. Each place was well organised and the tour was interesting

Great way to spend the afternoon, travelling between places and learning about what they eat and where their food comes from.
We visited a home where green banana fritters were made for us; another home where they harvest salt and had a piece of chocolate pie and we also visited Norfolk Island Liqueurs where we sampled the different liqueurs on offer.
