Following pickup at your Managua hotel in the morning, board a climate-controlled vehicle and get to know your guide on the 3-hour drive to Somoto Canyon.
Discovered by a group of international scientists in 2004, this spectacular canyon was previously known only to locals; which means it spent thirteen million years in relative obscurity. One of the oldest rock formations in Central America, it is now a protected nature reserve.
Upon arrival, take stock of the many activities available. Swim in the canyon's clear river or relax on an inner tube and float with the current. Go cliff-jumping if you're after a thrill, or rent a boat to cruise around at your leisure. Book a rappelling or horseback riding activity at additional expense.
After spending a few hours exploring the canyon's stunning natural beauty, travel to the charming nearby town of Somoto. Sit down for a traditional Nicaraguan meal that includes the legendary local rosquillas, or Nicaraguan donuts.
At the conclusion of your full-day of exploring the canyon and town of Somoto, enjoy the scenic drive back to Manauga and drop-off at your hotel.
