Meet Kremena and Dimitar at their home and then they will drive you in their car for about 20 minutes to the Zhenski Pazar market. It is one of Sofia’s oldest markets and besides food you can find clothes, pottery, homemade honey and wine. Walk through the market with Kremena and Dimitar and get immersed in a slice of Bulgarian market life. At the end of the market tour before you return back to Kremena and Dimitar’s home, you might buy a few ingredients for your cooking class.
Join Kremena and Dimitar in their kitchen to cook some of their favorite Bulgarian dishes in a hands-on cooking class. Learn to make stuffed peppers with rice and meat or mish-mash (onions, peppers, tomatoes, cheese and eggs) and tarator (cold soup made of Bulgarian yogurt, cucumbers, nuts and garlic). You can expect to cook together for about 1 hour, before sitting down to enjoy the meal you helped prepare at their dining table.
Your meal will be served at the dining table and might include dishes such as tarator (cold cucumber soup) or banitsa (a traditional pastry pie with cheese), zucchini and bell pepper salad or red peppers in tomato sauce with white cheese and guvech (vegetable and meat stew served in a clay pot) or moussaka (minced meat and potato casserole). You will end your meal with something sweet, a typical Bulgarian dessert made with sour milk, honey and walnuts and stunning views from their balcony towards the city and the mountain.
