Superb trip
Feb. 2020
Went in February. I'll go over the positives - in the winter there's not a lot of tourists, and the wait time at the border is not long. I am indeed a self loathing tourist. Our tour guide, Mikhail, was amazing. Super friendly, good driver, and really knew the history of his country and the surrounding Balkans. I love when tour guides tell you the good and bad moments of their history The only negative is, well, in winter it's pretty cold. Great experience from start to finish.

Very interesting trip with some pretty dark aspects
Just the two of us on the trip - picked up from hotel by our driver/guide Alex. Very comfortable drive to Nis - no hold ups at the border although Alex said it can be a nightmare in summer with up to 3 or 4 hour waits each way.
Visited the Tower of Skulls and then on to the city centre where we had 2 hours free time to explore and have lunch. Visited the fortress, the very extensive local market, had lunch from a ‘burger bar’ (better than it sounds) and then wandered along the main shopping street. Very pleasant city on a wide river.
On the way out of Nis we visited the ‘Red Cross’ concentration camp - quite small but lots of informative and moving records in the main building. Alex gave us great explanations of the history of the camp and Bulgaria’s part in WW2.
Very smooth journey back to Sofia - lots more info from Alex - very good driver, fluent English, all round nice guy.
If you get the chance while in Sofia do this trip (maybe not in high summer) with VTravel.

An OK trip
Aug. 2019 • Friends
We were not particularly impressed by this day tried. We spent a lot of time in the car trying to cross the Bulgarian-Serbian border. The city of f Nis is nothing special. Untortunately the arch ological site of Mediana is closed until further noted in so we only saw a tent from far away. The concentration camp is as very interesting. Our guide was making a very effort to please get s but his English was not fluent. Overall it is an OK trip, if you have seen everything else.

Dear Isabelle, We thank you for the feedback, we certainly also suffer from the long waiting at the border in the summer busy months. We try to warn all customers, however this information is not always reaching our guests.

A day in Nis
Jul. 2019 • Couples
It was very much a historical tour. We had a good and chatty driver-cum-guide. Not used to the food in Serbia.

Dear visitor, We thank you very much for your feedback. We are sorry that our historical tour did not quite meet your expectations. Usually cities offer mostly historical sights. Most of our customers have been very happy with Serbian grill, however if you do not fancy meat, food in Serbia is really not recommended. Thank you and many happy travels around the world!

A little grim
This day tour was well organised and pleasantly hosted by our guide Ivan. It was a few hours travel each way from Sofia to Niš and the border crossing itself was a fair chunk of that. The first spot was skull tower, a cairn of skulls from the heroic resistance of a Serbian battalion against the Ottoman. Next stop was a former Nazi transport concentration camp which whilst interesting was far from a barrel of laughs. After that into the town fortress which was well preserved and contained some excellent ruins of Roman and Byzantine times. Then came lunch which was a buy your own at a recommended restaurant. It was delicious but best avoided if you are vegetarian - it was a carnivore special with I counted 12 different types of meat! Last stop was a small museum which gave some insight into the city from its ancient origins. In summary, the day was interesting but the dark shadow of Serbia’s travails over the centuries made it a pretty sober day out.

Very interesting from a historical point of view. Watch out for the queues at the border if you are visiting Niš from Bulgaria

Thank you, Jesper! Yes, unfortunately the border queues in July and August are always like this - many cars from Germany/Austria going to Turkey back and forth... Not much we can do unfortunately :-)))

Nis Day Tour
Jun. 2019 • Solo
I was a solo traveller so this was an expensive tour. However, I don't regret it - the tour was excellent. The tour visits a variety of sites that differed from my two weeks in Bulgaria and Macedonia. Nis has a huge fort, skull tower, archaeology museum and WW2 concentration camp. Unfortunately the Constantine's Roman villa was closed, but you can see some artefacts in the museum. I highly recommend this trip.

Just transportation service
Apr. 2019 • Solo
The guide is in fact the driver who spoke while driving. However, I couldn't listen to what he said as I was at the back in the 7-ppl vehicle without a sound system. Only transportation service it meant to me but not a tour with live guide.

Amazing tour to discover a new country in the balkans !
Jul. 2018 • Friends
We did this tour with V-travel's guide Michael and it was absolutely great ! the car came right on time, it was clean and very comfortable. Michael was so nice and patient with us, he gave us great historical explanations and took us to see all the most interesting things in Nis = Roman Emperor Constantine's birth home, the Tower of Skulls, the Nis fortress, and the WWII Concentration Camp. This was a very very interesting tour and I highly recommend it to everyone !!

Interesting Day Trip to Nis
Jul. 2018 • Solo
The day trip to Nis from Sofia was one of the best things I did while on holidays in Bulgaria.

My guide for the day was Adrian and he couldn't have been more helpful or informative throughout the day. I had very little knowledge on Serbia's history but Adrian was able to give me a download on the journey to Nis and answered the many questions that I had!

Nis was an interesting city with a lot of history so definitely worth a visit if you have a day to spare.
