This cruise was the best part of our Fiji holiday. The crew were amazing & Tivua island is stunning. So many activities to do on the island. We managed to do paddle boarding, snorkelling & beach volleyball. We didn’t have enough time to kayak or go on the glass bottom boat. Lunch was delicious too.

        Disappointed by the experience
Very very disappointing! 12+ cruises to Tivua and this was not what we expected or had experienced in the past, hence our repeated travel to the island…by far the worse experience… From the moment we booked to the time we returned to the marina.. Booking started with mis-information being provided; staff confirming that a cabana had been reserved only to be advised on the morning of travel that this was not the case…staff on the ship seemed more interested in entertaining themselves than the guests on board…one crew member appeared happy to ‘take a bribe’ from a passenger, ‘wiping’ the fee $99FJD for a cabana and instead pocketing a ‘tip’… The boat itself is in need of a desperate makeover…with awnings in questionable condition; the boat was dirty…certainly wouldn’t be rushing back and will be looking for alternate entertainment the next time I/we come to Fiji

        Fun day all round
Great day, boat ride was good, plenty of refreshments. Seating areas inside and out were spacious. Island Snorkelling was good with lots of fish and the coral planting, but did feel a bit rushed.

        What a day!
Spending the day with this incredible crew was an absolute pleasure! Yes, the boat may be older, but that didn’t detract from the fantastic experience from start to finish. We were warmly welcomed aboard with juice, coffee, and tea, setting the tone for the day. An hour later, we were treated to kava, accompanied by lively music that felt genuine and joyful—like the crew was singing simply for fun. By the time we reached Tivua Island, we felt more like family than guests. The island itself was stunning, with comfortable amenities. We enjoyed snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, and lounging in cozy chairs. There was an open bar, free childcare, a delicious lunch, and even more live music. One of the highlights was a glass-bottom boat ride, where a passionate marine biologist shared fascinating insights about the coral reefs—we could have listened to him all day! The return trip was equally enjoyable and relaxing. The kids received custom-woven hats and warm Fijian pancakes freshly made before departure. Las, the engineer, amazed everyone by husking coconuts with his teeth and cracking them open with his fist—a moment that felt spontaneous and unforgettable! To top it all off, the crew gave us fantastic recommendations on things to do and places to eat in Fiji. This experience was truly one of my top three activities in Fiji—a day filled with warmth, fun, and authentic island hospitality.

        Desperate need of new boat
Tivua is an incredible island, you would be hard pressed not to enjoy this tropical paradise! The lunch provided was amazing, plentiful and well presented. The bar is only open at the island. Soft drinks on the boat. The staff are great, funny, knowledgeable and full of Fiji spirit. The downside however is the boat itself. Old, rusty, worn, weathered and falling apart. So much so it broke down. This boat should have been retired decades ago. As a sail boat it doesn’t work - we learnt after the engines failed and someone questioned why the captain couldn’t just sail us home. Not a very safe feeling passage.

        Another MUST DO in Fiji
Highly recommend this full day cruise out to Tivua Island . Entertainment by local musicians , kava ceremony and morning tea on the 90 minute sail out to the Island. Then it gets even better with white sandy beaches, shady cabanas , extensive and healthy bbq lunch, free drinks and amazing snorkeling !! There was also a glass bottom boat if snorkeling’s not your thing, plus the use of paddle boards and kayaks whilst you’re on the island . We absolutely loved our day on Tivua , the staff were helpful very friendly and do try ‘Lulus special’ drink if you get the chance !! We boarded the boat again at 3pm and the only thing that could have made this day better was having another hour on the island . Cherie NZ and Karen AUSTRALIA

        Very disappointing on many levels
We booked to go to Tivua Island with some friends who had been previously and had an amazing time. We'd already booked on Captain Cook's sunset dinner cruise and visited another island (South Sea Island) with another company but we were looking forward to visiting Tivua on a tall ship as shown in the photos and enjoying a full day on the island, including planting some coral. However, the reality was very disappointing. Rather than boarding the magnificent tall ship Spirit of the Pacific, we were directed onto the catamaran in front of it - the same boat as used for the sunset cruise. Speaking to a member of staff on board, this was necessary because they were too many passengers for the capacity of the tall ship, which can only hold 90 people compared to the catamaran that can take 220 (so much for the website's claim of a maximum of 100 people on each visit). The Captain Cook website does include small print to say that the vessel can be changed but it also describes the alternative as a 'luxury sailing catamaran' but it is anything but luxury - the inside cabin is austere with basic furniture, badly fitting carpets and a distinct smell of damp. There were also too many people for the number of seats inside, so many people had no option but to sit outside in the hot sun without any shade. The number of people outside also meant there was no way any sails would be hoisted, so it actually felt more like a ferry! Nevertheless, we were looking forward to visiting such a special island... The journey took approx 90 minutes and we arrived around 11:45. We found the cabana we'd pre-booked for an extra charge with more disappointment - it was described as a 'cabana for 4 people' but turned out to only have 2 loungers...the other 2 people would have to sit on uncomfortable plastic chairs! Nevertheless, it was still a good option as there wasn't enough shade for all passengers. We were informed that lunch would be served at 1, so we decided to enjoy the view with free beer from the bar and wait until after we'd eaten to enjoy the water activities. Lunch offered great variety and was tasty - a couple of staff played various songs on guitars and we had a great time. After I'd digested my lunch, I fancied a spot of paddleboarding so went to the activities shack only to be told that all paddleboards were being used. Never mind, I could go snorkelling...ah, there were no adult masks available either! Kayak? Sorry, all being used! Disappointed, I tried to find out what time we'd be planting coral...I found the resident botanist who was surprised that we'd booked the coral planting as he hadn't been told there'd been any bookings. By now the time was 2:00 and he was just about to go out for the last glass bottomed boat tour but would be back in 10 minutes, so I decided to wait as this was something my wife was particularly looking forward to. Hopefully, by the time we'd done that, there'd be a paddleboard, mask or kayak available. However, whilst waiting for the botanist to return, an announcement over the tannoy informed us the bar would be closing and we'd need to board the catamaran (ferry) for our return to Denarau at 3:00!! By the time the botanist return 30 minutes later (rather than the expected 10 minutes), it was close to 3:00 and there was no time for the planting, although he did offer my what looked like some pieces of rope that he said we could tie onto the jetty as we boarded the boat! This wasn't the type of ecological regeneration experience we were expecting! All in all, the day was a disappointing for many reasons: - Travel on a glorified ferry rather than the anticipated tall ship - Less than 3.5 hours on the island rather than a full day - Many more passengers than the advertised maximum - Insufficient equipment for the number of people to enjoy the surrounding water - None of the additional activities described (kava ceremony, nesting tours, cultural entertainment) By comparison the trip to South Sea Island was much more enjoyable: - Although we travelled by the same type of catamaran, this is clear in the description - Shorter journey, so much more time on the island - More entertainment on the island, including the option for a massage and a pool for the toddlers

        THE HIGHLIGHT OF OUR TRIP
Absolutely the best money we spent on our holiday. Crew were amazing. Location superb. Would do it again in a heartbeat. We had 2 adults, 3 children and 1 infant (luckiest 8 week baby) and the trip catered wonderfully for us all.

Amazing Day Trip to a Deserted Island!!
Tivua island was magical for me! A small deserted (uninhabited) island about an hour away from Nadi. This was the perfect day trip! I rented a bungalow on the beach for about $40 US. It was worth it. I got one far away from the tour setup. Pristine blue water with just the sounds of small waves.... incredible! The food was amazing and staff great! Do NOT miss this trip! The island is about 100 meters long. One end is completely empty. Just trees, sand and the ocean!

        Entertaining
If you want a full day out, packed with things to do, with a tour that is keen to entertain you. Well, here it is.... All the crew were focused on everyone having a great experience. Snorkelling, Paddle Boarding, glass bottom boat ride and Jay's special nature walk about the local medicines and plant uses. The sing-a-long on the return boat ride was a hit, with everyone joining in.

        Tivua island trip
Overall the experience was a great one. However, it took an 1 hour of boat trip thus making little time in terms of experience on the island. The service was great and the crew members talked and laughed with the with the guests.

        Fun day out
Awesome day out! The staff were very lovely and had a good sense of humour - there is plenty to do on the island itself and you can do the activities at your leisure. Would recommend the glass bottom boat as it is interesting to learn about the coral reef system around the island. We had a great time and found it was the perfect amount of time on the island to not be too exhausting of a day out. Would recommend!

The dinner cruise we did as a couple and highly recommend it to any couples or anyone looking to enjoy a beautiful meal by a stunning sunset with great entertainment. The staff greeted us with friendly smiles and complimentary drink on arrival which set the tone for a great evening. The multi talented guy did our induction, serenaded the group whilst playing the guitar and then later the keyboard. His humor also was appreciated by all and friendly demeanor by him and staff added to our experience. The food was very generous in serving size and tasty. The lobster in particular was a highlight on the plate. The cultural dance was entertaining and engaging as the whole group got involved and joined in the dancing at the end which was fantastic. A really enjoyable cruise to sit back and relax, and a great activity to experience Fijian culture and local produce.

My partner and I were so fortunate to be looked after by the most amazing crew on 6 October 2022.

Captain Mateo and his crew made us feel valued and important. We were celebrating our engagement and we have a 2-year-old son who was a bit scared of the water and was also very tired after a long day. The crew went out of their way to make our son comfortable and even gave us our own private table up on the captain’s bridge with an improvised bed for our son with a little blanket and a fan to keep him cool and plenty of ice cream for him. They also allowed him to sit in the captain’s chair and turn the wheel when the engines were off. They served us the most beautiful dinner and kept asking if we needed more. They kept checking in on us and the boat’s engineer, Lars, even went further by personally driving us all the way back to our accommodation in Sigatoka in his own private car with his family. Above and beyond doesn’t even do this kind of service justice…it was above even that. These people epitomise the Fijian hospitality spirit. And their smiles and care were genuine. They all deserve a big pay increase because that kind of service is incredibly hard to find in places where people get paid far more than them. Our deepest thanks and gratitude go to the crew of the sunset dinner cruise from 6 October 2022.

It was a beautiful night for a Sunset Cruise and we departed on time, Initially given drinks on the deck and after watching the sunset, we sat down for a buffet dinner consisting of various meat, fish, salad and vegetables. This was followed by desert. Drinks available with dinner too of course. There was a cultural show which followed which was very entertaining. At the time of booking this Cruise, we also booked another all day Cruise and the lass told us that there was a discount for booking the two, but to book the longer one first as the discount would be greater. This we did. I could thoroughly recommend the Sunset Cruise.

My partner and I had a sunset dinner cruise bought as a present for us back in October 2019 (3 months ago). We phoned and emailed captain cook cruises 24 hours in advance to confirm our booking which they did and organised pickup times. We got ready on the day and waited at the front of our resort only to hear from our hotel staff that the cruise had been cancelled with no warning whatsoever as not enough people had booked to fill the boat. Absolutely appalled at the effort made from this company and would not recommend anyone to captain cook cruises in the future.

We have travelled the world and this was one of the most substandard trips we have ever done.
They tell you to be ready for pickup at your hotel 10mts before 4pm.
They forgot us plus when picked up every one had to wait around the jetty till 5 pm to board.
There was no commentary throughout the trip by anyone, regards the view, sunset etc.
The food was rubbish. Dry and not very warm. The half lobster that they promote was like a 100mm length of dried stick. I noticed other people also put it to one side.
My wife asked for a coffee after the dinner. She was told the water was still heating. Later they told her they didn’t have tea or coffee.

It’s not a cruise. They take you out into the bay and basically idle around in the one area.
I’ve been in business and boating my whole life and would of thought a company such as this would have been more professional.
Captain Cook tours Fiji, you need to lift your game and give people the experience they are paying for.

Bula Meander, we will address this immediately, thank you for letting us know about the overcooking, cold food and lack of tea and coffee. There should be plunger coffee and a selection of tea and this will happen now. We have a schedule to allow for all hotels and there are things to do at the Port while you wait. The cruise is to see the sunset and then the lights of Denarau are gorgeous as night falls. Thank you for letting us know.

The driver was on time to collect us-fantasic. We are 15min out of arrival when he said I have got to take you back as I collected the wrong people. Arh hold on we are never going to make it back in time for the cruise. okay what will be will be. So back to the hotel dodging the cattle, shirtless guys on horses and many goats only to find the other people got jack of waiting and found there own way. Back to the wharf to catch the boat that was hopefully waiting for us. Great we made it. On the boat we go, but wait we only have a table for 2, not to worry we will set an extra plate. As we sit down we are asked by the lovely waiter would we like a glass of champagne. Hmm no, last I heard champagne only comes from France and made anywhere other is just not cricket. So we passed on the instant headache in the glass and went for beer and GNT after being explained no sorry we don’t have many of the items noted on the list. By the time we asked for number 3 GNT the lovely waiter explained we have run out of tonic. Laugh or cry, I went with laugh. The food was ok but the hot food was cold cold cold. As the AC was set to arctic we headed up to the bridge and sat behind the wheelhouse where there was no AC and a lovely aft water view - don’t open the windows as the fumes are a tad …. Off to see the cultural show performed by the staff doing the best they can in what appeared to be a task they had no choice in if they wanted to get paid. Overall the staff from start to finish were helpful and polite and did the best with what they had but the rest was a 1 out of 10. Captain Cook Sunset Cruise - Denaru Fiji.

Bula, sounds like you got off on the wrong foot with the transfer. We will contact our contractor and ensure this is improved for future guests. There is no excuse for no tonic. G&T in the tropics is mandatory. Thank you for letting us know, it is now restocked. Thank you for the praise of our crew and sorry they didn't deliver as you expected on the night.

Notice - Drinks aren’t included in the package which we didn’t not know about

If you’re after a nice sunset sail, hope you don’t get a gaggle of 30 camera waving clowns blocking the front of the boat completely ignoring the people they’re stepping on or an obnoxious group on a farewell dinner. That was painful beyond belief.

Food was ok, nothing to write home about

You sail, sorry, motor out to the opening to port Denarau, drift for a while then drop anchor

Wow, love the review of your Sunset Dinner cruise. It is a great combo. I did both on one day last Sunday and loved it too. See you back in Fiji soon

We had a wonderful evening enjoying the amazing scenery while waiting for the sunset. A major highlight was Leps, who sang to us throughout the evening. His love for his culture was evident and we were able to experience an evening filled with Fijian culture. Unfortunately, we were not able to see the sunset set because of the weather but we were not at all disappointed. The food was really good and service was great, typical of the Fijian service we experienced the entire trip. Leps, thanks again for making our night memorable.

Having drinks on the deck as we sailed toward the sunset was beautiful! But once it got dark and we made our way inside for food, it became a bit average. The eating area was very tight and we had to wait quite a while to be invited up to the buffet. I thought I read somewhere that the boat was air conditioned— I’m not sure that was the case as pedestal fans were blowing everywhere but it was still very warm! The lights were also very harsh; thankfully, someone asked for some of the lights to be turned down/off and that made it much better. The food on the buffet was excellent, including dessert and all the staff were wonderful. The cultural show was great too, but I found it very hard to see or hear properly from my table down the back. Overall, it was ok and the staff did the very best with what was available.
