Art and history Tour with Ana
A fantastic tour, starts with ancient art and goes to the present. A wide transition and very moving. Worthwhile I am very detailed. Was on the tour for two hours and could have been longer.

      Interesting art
Lots of interesting art here so I'm sure those more cultured than me would really love a visit here. I enjoyed admiring certain pieces and I loved the interactive exhibition on the ground floor and a visit to the cafe with herbal teas.

      Family trip to MALI
Excellent museum. Arrive early so you don’t miss anything and have plenty of time to explore. Entrance ticket can be paid with credit card. Go ahead and pay extra for the museum guide! Christian was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Peru, the museum artifacts, the more modern art, and even behind the scenes stories and examples. We ran out of town because of our own poor timing but we could have listened to him all day. An excellent museum and guided experience!

One of the three best museums in Lima.
A comprehensive museum that presents exhibits from many of the ancient Andean peoples through modern artists. One can take a chronological tour of Peruvian art beginning with the earliest ceramics and ending with contemporary art. On the journey, one learns about many different cultures - Chimu, Moche, Nasca, Wari, Inca, to name a few - and the somewhat common concept of deities of the underworld, earth, and sky, often represented by serpents, the jaguar, and birds - owls, condors, vultures. The exhibits are superb specimens. While ceramics dominate the exhibits of this period, be sure to look for the amazing examples of ancient textiles in a room dimly lit to preserve the fabric and dyes. After the conquest, a few salons are filled with religious art, often integrating Catholic doctrine with local lore. There are some great examples of the Cuzco School. And then personal portraits of dignitaries begin to appear as do renditions of historical events. European artists arrived and Peruvian artists traveled to Europe to study and bring new painting styles and techniques back to Peru. Non-flash photography is allowed. Excellent signage in English for the pre-colonial Andean exhibits, but as not much for the artwork after the conquest.

      Excellent and very entertaining experience
Excellent experience! Worth the time to hear what the very knowledgeable curator had to say about some of the paintings. You gain a different prospective after hearing the story behind the paintings. I highly recommend it. You also get a little lesson in Peruvian history.

Excellent museum about art in Peru
Even if you saw Larco, don't miss MALI! Great pre-Columbian art but also excellent artifacts from the new and modern ages. Very interesting, to-the-point descriptions set the context in each room. The building and the surrunding park are also beautiful!

Really interesting. I learned a lot.
The permanent collection spans from pre-Inca art, to modern art. In the Pre-Inca section, the information and works were very very interesting and well presented. I learned a lot about those civilisations, and the reasons why their art was like it was. Although I visited archeological sites elsewhere in Peru, this was the experience that thought me the most about those civilisations. The paintings of the first half of XXeth Century were also very interesting. There was a revolution in the arts in Peru, similar in some ways, to what was going on in Europe. Many paintings are delightful. I am usually not a big fan of religious paintings, but here, it was very interesting. The collection shows and explains, that the Catholic Religion in Peru had representations, in paintings, that were quite different from what was going on in Europe and North America. I had good surprises. It is really worth visiting, only if only for the sake of Art and Religious history. I will visit again on next visit to LIma.

A guided visit to this museum is excellent. For only s/ 10 you can be accompanied by a guide that explains the entire artistic production of this rich country. In addition, speaking Spanish calmly is easily understood. Sensational! Not to mention other tips for visiting the Lima region.

We had an amazing experience with Ana, who was our guide on the tour of the museu. There we were able to further understand the development of art from pre-colonial moments to contemporary times.
The guided tour also gives you access to Salon Prado, which is divine!

Went on a tour with a small group in the museum. My Spanish isn’t great but my guide Ana helped make the tour comprehensible even though it was mostly in Spanish. A good primer on Peruvian art history.

The guided tour with Ana was great. I would recommend a visit to the museum to anyone that visits Lima. If you can, take a guided private tour. Its affordable and brings the exhibited art into the context of Perus history.
