About
A Hip tour of Quito Old Town
Highlights:
- Discover the hippest locales in Quito – trendy coffee shops, yesteryear coffee roasters, artist workshops, and vintage toy makers.
- Experience the modern and traditional street food scene in Quito.
- Meet artists and artisans and learn how they handcraft Panama hats, Fedora hats, Driver Caps, and more.
Walk around bohemian neighborhoods and streets – San Marcos and La Ronda
Our HIPstoric Quito Day Tour is a unique tour visiting hip and cool sites in Old Town Quito. Take advantage of your spare time in Quito and explore Old Town like a true hipster.
This is not your typical, generic Quito day tour. Avoid the crowds, visit off the beaten path sites and get to know the city in a different way.
Whenever I travel around the world, I do my best to stray away from the crowds and try to find something unique that only I deem special. Nevertheless, its that search for something special that makes exploring an unknown city so great.

- D7356GFsarahf0 contributionsGreat introduction to Ecuadorian food cultureWe really enjoyed the market tour, where we got to try many of Ecuador’s unique fruits. The recipes were simple, but it was interesting to see how meals were cooked based on Ecuadorian culture. Their English was very good, and they were all so niceWritten 28 December 2024
- apina12190 contributionsThe best Ecuador has to offerThe market tour was very informational but the cooking experience was the best part. The ladies who host the cooking portion are lovely and knowledgeable about the culture and cuisine. The food was also very tasty.Written 3 December 2024
- TravelNurse1230 contributionsVery professional, fun, and educational cooking class!I had an incredible experience with the Cooking Class and Market Tour in Ecuador! Magola and Silvia were fantastic hosts, creating a relaxed atmosphere with upbeat music while maintaining a spotless kitchen. We were hands-on in every step, snacking on delicious treats and immersing ourselves in Ecuadorian culture. The market tour, led by Andres, was equally amazing—he shared fascinating insights into the market and local foods. This is a must-do experience for anyone looking to explore Ecuador’s culinary traditions!Written 1 December 2024

- Randy R0 contributionsTerrific Market TourExcellent tour of markets and a few bonus points. Galapagos Connoisseur LLC did a wonderful job. We were picked up on time at our Hotel. Our guide, Gean Pierre was most attentive to what we wanted to do on the day tour. We got everything accomplished and never felt rushed. The time in the car was filled with information on a wide range of subjects that came to mind. Our brief time in Quito was really enhanced by going to these markets. We walked away with travel treasures that would otherwise not be found. Thanks so much Gean for your knowledge and support.Written 15 November 2024
- Bigwhalebelly0 contributionsA real authentic local culinary cooking experience !Fantastic experience with pick up by the boss from our hotel followed by shopping for ingredients for our lunch at the center city market, sampling the many different fruits and other possible menu items and mingling with all the locals at there daily market spot (no other tourists in sight!) followed by a few blocks ride to the cooking class site in a private courtyard residence in old town. All hands on deck helping with the prep (including a home made Equadoran cocktail) and then enjoying the delicious local dishes we helped make and learn to prepare. Warm and friendly pair of chefs who are really great teachers of genuine local recipes. By the end it felt like a meal with relatives while home for the holidays! We had a wonderful time!Written 7 November 2024
- Inspire258324653100 contributionsUnforgettable experienceWhat an amazing experience - just the perfect way to start our travels. Andres picked us up at our hotel and showed us a market in Quito with all its beautiful fruits, vegetables and many more. He then brought us to this beautiful building, more than 200 years old. It's just by a main street but once you enter the building it's very quiet and calm there. We were welcomed by his beautiful wife Silvia and her friend who taught us how to cook traditional Ecuadorian dishes. We were also served this delicious warm cocktail with some sort of local cane sugar "rum". Silvia even organized our taxi that brought us back to the hotel. Thank you so much for the unforgettable experience. I can recommend this cooking class to anyone who's interested in learning more about Ecuadorian food culture and people.Written 7 November 2024
- TaxLady7110 contributionsAmazing authentic Ecuadorian cooking experienceWe had a chance to visit and taste from the the local market. We then met a local chef and sous chef who helped us prepare a 3 course meal and 2 different drinks. The experience was fabulous and we walked away with the recipes and full bellies. They made the experience very easy by picking us up at the hotel and delivering us back. Highly recommend this tour!Written 28 July 2024
- staceyc4850 contributionsGreat cooking experience! We try to immerse ourselves a bit in the culture of a new place and what better way than their cooking! Andres was very friendly and informative on our drive to the old town. We learned a bit at the local food market before heading to our class. Silvia and margola were great. We learned simple but tasty dishes we can make at home. Enjoyable day!Written 9 July 2024
- 121santinaf0 contributionsWish we could rate it 100 stars!!We had the most fun and amazing experience today with Andres, Sylvia and Margola! Andres picked us up at our hotel and took us to Mercado Central to purchase items for our cooking class. We sampled delicious juice, fruits, herbs and vegetables along the way. We were then taken to the historic center for a wonderful time of cooking locro de papa, canalazo, shrimp ceviche , chocolate soup and pantconera. We participated in all aspects of cooking. And our teachers, Margola and Sylvia taught us with exceptional skill and kindness. The meal was phenomenal and we were given all the recipes! My husband can’t wait for me to make these dishes at home! The ladies went above and beyond by escorting us back via the new subway system. We were thrilled with this cooking experience and highly recommend it. If we could rate it 100 stars we would!! If you are in Quito, don’t miss this experience. Gracias Margola, Sylvia and Andres! We will always think of your kindness and expertise and will think of you every time we make these dishes at home.Written 10 June 2024
- debbiebT1837WK0 contributionsA tour with lots of extrasWe had our two grandkids 15 and 17 with us and they had fun too! Andres and Sylvia took us to a fabulous market to buy produce for our class. Margola (hope I spelled her name right) was the chef and she was very knowledgeable, informative, interesting and fun. She and Sylvia went above and beyond for us. It was May 24, Ecuadors Independence Day and there were parades all day and thousands of people in the streets. No way to drive us back to our hotel. They personally navigated through throngs of people and took us on the metro back to our hotel. An experience we would have missed. Would highly recommend their class!Written 1 June 2024
- SusanY1630 contributionsAn engaging classWe had a fabulous experience with Andres, Sylvia and Magda. I have a dinner party planned after our practice🍴 The preparations were healthy and delicious. I hope Magda puts together an Ecuadorian cookbook! The morning was delightful.Written 14 May 2024

Thanks for the great review. It was a great day in Old Town Quito. The hat shop was a cool spot, and the Guayasamín museum never disappoints. I had a great time with the group of Brits. You guys rock! Cheers!
