What to expect
  • Your horseback adventure begins with pick-up from your central Santiago hotel and a scenic drive into the heart of the Maipo Valley. After around an hour’s drive, arrive at the starting point for your trek – a traditional Chilean horse ranch, where a hearty breakfast will be waiting for you. After breakfast, it’s time to meet the ranch’s equine residents, and be matched with a suitable horse. Depending on your experience level, there will be time to familiarize yourself with your horse, or learn the basics of stopping and steering before heading out on the trails. Then, follow your guide on a trail ride, weaving through the patchwork vineyards, strolling along the Maipo River, or galloping across the open plains. Along the way, stop to admire the views, take photos, or let the horses drink from streams of fresh water. After safely returning to the ranch, enjoy a taste of authentic Chilean country-style cuisine as you re-fuel with a delicious feast of grilled meats, salads, regional cheeses, and homemade cakes. With your appetite sated, set out for the final stop of the day – Miraflores winery, where you can indulge in an expert-led tasting and learn more about Chile’s famous red wines. Finally, return to Santiago, where your tour ends with an evening drop-off at your hotel.

Wonderful experience!!
We did the horse riding tour and it was just wonderful! A must do experience!! Felipe is a great guy, very easy to communicate since the begging and is super attentive with the clients! When we said we didn’t eat meat he prepared a super nice barbecue with vegetables and a delicious fish :) The horses were super easygoing and calm and We passed trough some super beautiful places! Don Mario who went with us was super nice as well! After the horse riding Felipe took us to a really nice place to buy some wine and explained about the wines and all. If you’re in Santiago I super recommend this tour! ❤️ Thanks again for the amazing tour Felipe and Don Mario ☺️

Tour was amazing! What better than getting the local experience with a winery to end the tour! Christian and Amanda were fantastic tour guides, versatile with English and Spanish languages; and quite professional/intelligent tour guides. Don Mario was fabulous. He speaks Spanish and I was able to understand him well. This made our tour a lot more personal and getting to know the local, country people of Chile. It was amazing! I highly recommend; getting on that horse, passing those lakes to a perfect picnic spot. It was quite the charm.

I highly recommend them for any tour as they strike me as very savvy and knowledgeable tour guides.

Hello again! We're glad you enjoyed the experience. One of the things we really like is when our guests say that you value getting to know the local people. As when you mentioned Don Mario, the wrangler because the truth is that he really knows the best spots of the hills and the river and his horses are fantastic. I'll tell him right away that you have enjoyed his company. Thks again and kind regards!

Amazing Chilean Experience
Felipe, our guide, picked us up from our hotel in Santiago and we drove to Isla de Maipo where we had breakfast in the garden of a home of a small local business. After a fantastic breakfast of biscuits with avocado, eggs, butter, and jam (along with wine and coffee), we went on a horseback ride with a local huaso (cowboy). Our group of four, plus the huaso Mario, and Felipe rode for more than an hour until we reached a picturesque vineyard in the countryside. There we had a grill of chicken, beef, pork, chorizo under the shade of some trees. We drank more wine and enjoyed the food. We then rode back into the town and headed out for our wine tasting at Undurraga Winery. We received a fascinating tour before our tasting and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We were then driven back to Santiago. It was a full day experience and we absolutely enjoyed it and our time with Felipe and the other locals that we met. Highly recommend!

Amazing experience
Dec. 2019 • Friends
This tour is incredible, the communication to book it was very fast and easy. Felipe is great and made this tour very special, we are somewhat experienced riders and the route was amazing - we crossed rivers, rode through vine yards, saw wild horses.

Lunch in a very cozy spot in a vine yard was amazing, very tasty meat, local vegetables, fantastic wines - Felipe was so nice that when he heard that we prefer white wine he actually picked up an extra bottle from his house. Mario, the horse owner, was great and very friendly and helpful too, we do not speak Spanish unfortunately, but after a couple of glasses of wine and some Google translate we managed to communicate just fine.

This style of riding is different from European and takes a bit of getting used to, but it is fun and provides a great opportunity to learn something new if you are a somewhat experienced rider. The horses are well kept, have great personalities, and are very responsive and easy to deal with.

In general this tour is very tailored and personal. Oh and the breakfast is super cute and homey, we had it at an artists house, and she was so welcoming and nice. We were taken care of throughout the entire tour and didn't have to worry about anything. Highly, highly recommended!

Hello Maryia! I'm glad you finally had the time to enjoy the experience and had a good time! It's very touching to read how you describe the experience. Better than us! By the way, I totally agree when you say he horses are well kept, have great personalities, and are very responsive and easy to deal with. The fact is that I have ridden horses in many places. In Europe too. And I would say that horses here are very peaceful and very well adapted to the geographical characteristics of the hills. It's very nice to observe the childs riding the horses without saddle, horse reins or anything. I have seen them sleeping on their backs! It's unbelievable what a close relationship they have with the horses. Thks again Maryia! All the best, Juan

Once in a lifetime experience
Sep. 2019
Words cannot justify just how unique and amazing this experience was. From start to finish it was beyond incredible, often surreal at times. Apart from the scenery that photos will never do quite justice, the food and wine were also the best we had in Chile, a beautiful Chilean BBQ in the middle of vineyard - amazing!
Felipe made the day very special. He was such a warm and genuine tour guide, with such respect given to the locals of this magic area of Maipo Valley. We were so overwhelmed with the quality of the day and Felipe that we also asked him to create a very bespoke wine tour for us - which was yet another incredible day.
We will forever be thankful to Felipe for providing us with such special memoriess that we will forever cherish.
This is an absolute 'must do' tour!

Hello Alex, I have just talked to Felipe and he is very happy with your really nice comments. He also enjoyed a lot the trip to Casablanca Valley. He usually says: "I´m a man of action!" and that´s the reason I have to work as his secretary because he hates to sit down at the computer or use the phone for social media purposes. Anyway, he ask me to send you a very warm hug and many thanks. We hope to see you here again some time. I´m glad you enjoyed the experience! kind regards, Juan

Perfect day
Sep. 2019 • Couples
This is a private tour, which is worth every penny you spend on it. The communication to book this tour was very easy and a couple of days before our tour we received a WhatsApp message from Felipe, confirming again the details of the pick up from our hotel. We drove out to Maipo Valley, with Felipe giving us some local knowledge and tips for riding the horses. Felipe has a lovely manner about him and you instantly feel relaxed with him.

We stopped off at a local cafe for breakfast and then continued on to arrive at the house of Mario, a local Huaso (Chilean cowboy). He had the horses ready and we got acquainted with our rides. They all had their own personalities, but were gentle horses and I had complete trust in them. Mario’s wife lent me a poncho, as the weather had turned cool and it kept me warm for the whole day (and also made me feel like a Huaso myself).

We rode from Mario’s house and out onto the land that he keeps his cows on. We walked through streams, across open fields and through small woods. The scenery was beautiful and we eventually stopped in the middle of a vineyard, where Felipe and Mario collected sticks and cooked our lunch over an open fire. All the meat was locally sourced and the vegetables were incredibly fresh. We enjoyed wine with our lunch and then we headed back again, although taking a different route to see more of the landscape.

After saying good bye to Mario, his wife, their dogs and the horses, Felipe drove us to Undurraga Winery where we received an excellent tour from David, the Winery’s guide who spoke excellent English and really gave us an appreciation of the science and skill behind making wine. After the tour we had a wine tasting and stood chatting to the other couple on our Winery tour. There was no pressure from Felipe to hurry, but when we were eventually ready to leave, he was patiently waiting to take us back to our hotel.

We asked Felipe what made him create this tour and he said that he wanted to create a more authentic and complete experience, using local products and people. The aim of the tour was to give people a chance to slow down for a day, as life is generally busy and fast. I can confirm he achieved all of the above. We said just how relaxed we felt after the tour and it really was a perfect day out, different to all the other tours we had done on our holiday; a really personal experience.

Awesome Day!!
Aug. 2019
I have been to Chile 6 times and each time do an excursion near Santiago. This was by far the best one I have done. Felipe (who is awesome) picked us up early to drive us out to the Maipo valley, Had a great breakfast at a local artisan’s house and then went to meet Mario and begin our horse riding excursion. Rode the horses through water and vineyards into a picnic area where Felipe made an UNREAL meal. So good. After hanging out for a while we rode back and then went for a winery tour. Felipe hooked us up all day and made sure we had a great time. Muchas gracias Felipe! Highly recommend!

Amazing Adventure
Mar. 2019 • Solo
The booking process was super easy, and every part of my full day adventure was fantastic. Felipe was an amazing guide, and he clearly put in a lot of time and effort to customize my day. He far exceeded any expectations I had, and his kindness will stay with me.

No matter what kind of tour you are interested in, I can't recommend Maipo Valley Wine Tours enough. Whatever adventure you pick, you will remember it for all of the right reasons. A truly special day.

Experience of a Lifetime
This was truly an experience of a lifetime for me! Felipe picked me up from the hotel and brought me to Isla de Maipo. We started with a yummy breakfast in a neighborhood tea shop and then continued over to meet up with Mario, my cowboy guide for the horseback riding. I love horses and this was a dream come true for me.

Mario led us from his home through a forest and across the Maipo river then through vineyards. I am comfortable riding horses but not an expert and I must say that these horses are very gentle and easy to ride. Mario and Felipe are very knowledgeable and evaluated my skill level so I would be comfortable and all times. We continued the day with a delicious and intimate lunch with a family that runs a little property with lovely bungalows available for vacations. Before returning back to Santiago, we stopped an historic winery for a tasting.

The entire experience was full of unexpected surprises and personalized care. Felipe is a wonderful guide and delightful travel companion. He is easy to talk to and very knowledgeable about the area. Everyone we met were gracious and warm which made the experience that much more intimate.

He has many fun adventures to pick from and I would definitely love to meet up with him again on my next trip to Chile! I highly recommend anyone who has time for a day trip to contact Felipe at Maipo Valley Tours. It will be an experience to treasure.
