- Viremar0 contributionsThe heart of SingaporeThis was a fun visit of this lovely town. Holden, our tour guide, is very thoughtful. He makes you feel comfortable and he is a wealth of information about how people live from food to recreation. He took us to a beautiful park in the neighborhood. We walked all over the market sampling typical local Singapore food. He explained to us what each good was made of. Visiting his flat was very homy and a great way to conclude our visit. I highly recommend this tour.Written 27 November 2024

If you want to try some authentic Peranakan street food with a unique infusion of flavours and culture off the beaten track this is your tour. Fred is an enthusiastic foodie who will take you on a tour of the East district ending in Kantong visiting historic architecture on the way.
The tour is an easy walk starting from the Paya Levar MRT station and a short trip back by bus into the city - it’ll only cost your a few dollars in total or take a Grab from the taxi stand.
With 9 dishes to try don’t plan on a sumptuous dinner out! This is classic Singaporean cuisine with some families having produced these distinctive dishes by hand for three or more generations - each shop is the one and only with a discerning local client base.
As visitors to Singapore we would never have been able to uncover such a unique local experience stepped in the history and culture of Peranakans.
Fred is a friendly and knowledgeable guide and would recommend pairing this experience with the bike tour.
Bon appetite!

Joined the tour with a couple of gfs and it's a great day out activity feasting on local delights and walking off the calories at the same time. The guides are knowledgeable offering insights not only on the food but also the history n culture of the neighbourhood. They are very thoughtful, providing wet wipes, brollies and offering at the right moments to help snap pics.

A great value tour compared to other food tours available on the market that takes you to the inner suburbs of Singapore to give you an authentic cultural and food experience. Fred our tour leader grew up as a local in the area and knew which restaurants to go to including the history of the area. This was evident with his relationships with shop owners throughout the tour. This tour is a must if you are seeking an authentic cultural and food experience.

What a great way to try so many delicious eats in Singapore!! Fred was our tour guide and was so knowledgeable on the history and culture of this country - he answered every question our group had about literally everything. If you’re a foodie, or consider yourself someone who likes to learn about other people’s cultures, definitely book this tour! He will show you the local favorites that you can’t find by researching online. Singapore is made up of so many ethnic groups & foods and it’s great value having someone guide you through it all, while sharing so many engaging stories along the way.

This is definitely a hidden gem that I haven't run into while I was doing my pretrip research but definitely don't regret doing! It is a food tour but Zaniel our guide covered a lot of culture and history of perekehan and Singapore. As a traveller on a tight schedule this will give you a chance to experience the signature dishes that is reflective of the history of the people living here. The food are mostly snacks so doesn't quite overload you, and there are adequate walking in-between to burn off the calories. I especially recommend Zaniel who was very knowledgeable, attentive and engaging who shared so much of his knowledge and enthusiasm about this city that really made this tour stand out. 100% recommend without hesitation!

TAKE THIS TOUR!! You’ll thank me later. Best tour, and extremely value for money. Other tours of the same quality are about 3 times pricier… Our Guide, Fred, managed to combine history, culture and food all into one tour. We tried so many dishes along the way and left stuffed. Don’t eat a heavy meal before coming for the tour! Thank you Fred for a great experience!

Our guide was informative and provided great insights to the part of town not usually visited by tourists. Food selection was delicious and excellent portion considering how much food was offered. Definitely recommend this as a low key activity or if you want an “off the beaten path experience”.

The tour was very well planned. We got to try a range of different foods. Furthermore, our guide Holden really knows his Singapore history and could tell us about origins of the food, the neighbourhoods we went through and could answer whatever questions we had about Singapore. This was the perfect trip to walk around a part of the city and taste great food 😁

The tour with Jamie was very interesting and delicious. We tried various little things in five different shops/restaurants. We also got some interesting information about the history of Singapore and visited a few places worth seeing. The price was relatively expensive at €70 per person, but that's probably normal for Singapore.

My 14 month old daughter and i had a wonderful time on this delicious food tour peppered with the rich history of Singapore hosted by our delightful guide, Holden.
Our absolute favorite was the Nonya rice dumpling at Kim Choo Kueh Chang. SO GOOD - get the small sized dumpling as it is very filling.
Tip: go hungry with an open mind, and remember to bring an umbrella or poncho for unexpected rain showers!
