    What to Expect
An out-of-the-ordinary cooking experience that will find customers treading off-the-road paths to one of Bali’s leading culinary experience. The location of the Bali Asli Cooking school, in Gelumpang village, nestled in the foot hills of Mount Agung, Bali’s most sacred mountain and surrounded by rice fields, is what this makes it such a special place in bringing your cooking skills to new levels.
We depart not too early in the morning from your resort on Bali (selected areas and beaches) in the direction of Mount Agung to maybe one of the cooking class with the best view on Bali. Chef Penelope and her team of kitchen wizards will show you on a walk through the jungle most of the ingredients you use later for your meals but also her second home with its local families where she learnt all the secret recipes from Bali. And image that you constantly have vis-à-vis view towards the sacred Mount Agung.
With a strong commitment in supporting the local community, almost all the ingredients are either locally-grown in the school’s own garden, from any of the neighbours or purchased from a local market nearby. The western owners wanted to promote Balinese cuisine and culture in the best and most authentic means possible. Lessons will use each participant with its own Balinese style kitchen, including wood-fired stoves made out of mud bricks to captivate the essence of the island’s local cuisine.
We embrace our community, supporting those who fish, farm and forage in the nearby fields, ocean and jungle. Our menu offers traditional Balinese food using an authentic Balinese style kitchen. We cook on wood-fired, mud brick stoves, allowing the real flavours of Bali to shine. Most of our ingredients are either grown in our garden, in our neighbour’s garden or purchased from the local market. You’ll be looking back in a true adventure that incorporates not only local delicacies but also the story behind each dish. The fun part comes when you finally can taste what you have prepared on the terrace overlooking Mount Agung. Transfer back to your hotel where you will arrive at around 15:30 hrs.
