Be aware and don't do it
Oct. 2019
I booked this tour for my brother and his wife. First, the tour was 45 minutes late picking them up at the hotel. Second and last. everything was rushed, poor information, visits to some local places that lacked reliable information and pressure to buy stuff. My brother called me at the hotel & I basically told him to leave the tour & I would take them around. It was a waste of money...

A chance to quickly seem some sites, but lots of pressure to buy things
Sep. 2019
It was a very lovely day weather-wise to see some of the classic Beijing sites in a short period. However, there was very little time to actually stop and see the sites because of the rush to get to the next stop which was often a shopping venue (silk, pearls, Chinese medicines).

Rushed
May 2019 • Solo
I just went on two tours with Han Tang about a week ago. My guide the first day, Gail, was very informed in terms of history. We started out at the Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City, where we had to sit until Forbidden City opened nearly 45 minutes. Then, went on to Summer Palace, where she had us rushing through nearly every part and had us weaving through people left and right. Even if someone was taking a picture, she’d tell me to go through them- this was confusing since I was the only person on the tour this day. It really made me feel rushed and not relaxed all day, where she’d go running ahead and I’d follow behind. She wanted to take me to a silk stop, which I asked to cancel since I didn’t need any silk, taking that off the schedule took some convincing. Then, Temple of Heaven was very quick and rushed. I was back to my hotel by 1/1:30 that day. Expecting a longer tour of those sights, I was disappointed. Also, at lunch- since I was the only tourist, the driver and guide sat together and left me alone to eat lunch. For much of the day, I’d be in silence in the car while the driver and Gail would be speaking Chinese. For the next day of tours, my tour guide Gail informed of a license plate number and car color to get into the next morning along with the name of my tour guide, this was alarming for me due to being a female traveling alone. I was told no one would meet me in the lobby, just to get into a car and know that their vans are unmarked with a tour company label or anything official. I would expect more professionalism from a tour company, this is my honest review.

A full day including the main sites but several stops not on the itinerary and lots of walking
Oct. 2018 • Friends
It was nice having a small group but main attractions rushed and then lots of time spent being pressured into buying things. We started at Tiannamen Square and was told to only stop and take pictures when the guide told us to. However this is understandable as it's so busy and the group needs to stay together. A whistle stop tour of the Forbidden City before going to a silk factory which wasn't on the itinerary. They tried to get us to buy a duvet and we had ages to look round the shop. We then went for lunch at 11:30 - apparently the restaurant had a large booking later. Next was a stop at the institute of Chinese medicine - again not on the itinerary. We had a 'free' foot massage but had to tip and were then offered a consultation with a professor. Those that took up the offer were pressured into buying herbs for their 'ailments' (one man was told he needed to take care of his prostate when he hasn't got one). We then went to the temple of heaven but didn't really understand what it was a temple of. Then went to the summer palace where we had to buy a ticket to get the boat back. The final stop was a tea ceremony which was interesting but rushed as they wanted to get to the main point - trying to sell us very expensive tea. At the attractions it was difficult to hear the guide - headsets would have been useful. It was a good trip to cover seeing the main sites but there were 2 stops we didn't know about beforehand which was disappointing as we deliberately picked this trip as it didn't have stops where we would be pressured to buy things.

Worst tour ever
Jun. 2018 • Couples
Beijing classic full day tour.... worst tour ever Important things to note: - Advised as 9 hour trip, actually took 12 - Unwanted stops not listed in itinerary - Rushed through main attractions to get to selling spots where you're pressured into buying - Unexpected additional costs - No. 8 is by far the worst part of our experience Details: 1. With less than 24 hours to, the booking says to confirm pick up time, tried the number multiple times, no answer. Emailed, no answer. Eventually someone picked up and rushed off the phone saying they'll be in touch later, eventually got a text late afternoon confirming pick up for 7am the next day. Not the most organised start... 2. Picked up from hotel on time as advised, arrived at Tiannamen Square, brief/rushed background history and we had 30 mins to look around. Note: This was the longest we had at a location we chose to be at all day.... 3. We were then rushed through forbidden city, being told 'quickly, quickly, this way' every now and again our guide (Cherry) would tell us to stop and take photos in 'good spots' because less people in the background before being rushed to the next spot to be given 5 minutes of history, with a lot of repetition of facts throughout the day. Quite often we were left wondering what we're actually taking pictures of? 4. Then the driver picks us up and takes us to what looks like a random entrance (not on the itinerary) and it's the silk factory, where we 'learn' about the production. In reality, 5 minute whistlestop explanation of silk production then 1 HOUR+ in the shop where you're pressured in buying products... 5. Time for (an early - 11:30am) lunch. Taken downstairs into a local restaurant where we are served western style chinese food, only plus point is that they catered for my peanut allergy and partner who is vegetarian. Food very average. Tour guide leaves you with no explanation of what's happening next until they appear at the end of the meal. Whether you're finished or not you get hurried along. Cleanliness was questionable, AND be warned your first drink is included, but they barely fill the tiny glass! Anymore and you have to pay extra .... 6. Next stop, Temple of Heaven. Where you're pretty much left to your own devices for 20+ minutes, but again no real context to what you're looking at. Guide suggests you go round the buildings and read the english descriptions.... 7. 'Waiting for the driver in the air condition tea house' aka time to make more money out of tourists. You witness a tea ceremony and learn about 5 different chinese teas, this is ok but then again you have much longer than you want to browse the expensive teas and teapots on sale, with pressure from staff to make purchases. We declined and just sat down. (Again, not on the itnierary). 8. THIS IS THE WORST PART. Another stop not advertised on the intinerary, a chinese medicine academy. A 5 minute rushed lecture, which does a terrible job at disguising another selling stop, a foot massage included but tip needed (we declined) and then an examination from a 'professor'. The professor diagnoses you with typical health issues for your age bracket, and then prescribes chinese herbs and medicines - costing you hundreds of £s and US dollars. We refused to take the prescriptions and as soon as we did the professor turned from being friendly to rude and said we need them otherwhise we will be ill. Others in our tour purchased the medicines. Whilst I don't discredit chinese medicine, I do think this is shocking practice. You can see how this could give people false hope of receiving the magic cure. 9. Finally, the summer palace. A place advertised on the tour and somewhere we actually wanted to go to. But first you need to pay an extra 150RMB to take the boat ride, not advertised in the description and we weren't made aware of an alternative free route.... You sit and listen to chinese commentary, the guide makes no effort to explain what is being said to you in English. Then, much like forbidden city, you are rushed through, told to stop, take photos and then quickly quickly rush on to reach the car.... In this 9 hour tour (which actually took 12 with traffic included) you spent no more than 3 hours at the main attractions and of that, the time to explore is no more than 1.5 hours. You have no time to browse the gift shops at these attractions, instead you are rushed to places where the guide claims commission. Avoid at all costs. I have been lucky enough to travel extensively and unfortunately this is the first time I have had to write a review like this.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE
This was the WORST tour I have ever been in my life. I don't even know where to start about how bad this tour was. 1. Our guide, Jacky or Li Jing Zhi, was always in a rush. He promised us 2.5 hours at the forbidden city and in actuality we only spent only 1 hour. He took us around the palace as to avoid the crowd but made us miss all the major attractions. He would also talk so fast that it was hard to understand what he was saying. After he rushed us out of the Forbidden city he took us at a silk making factory and a pearl making factory...apparently we had time for those. Also I might add these two stops were not advertised in the tour. Next he took us to lunch which was horrible. It was like I was eating western style Chinese food, stuff that you get at a bad Chinese takeout place back home. THEN he rushed us at the temple of heaven where we literally spent only 20 min because he wanted us to go to a medicine school to teach us about traditional Chinese medicine, basically another sales pitch. By 1:30pm we made it to Summer Palace, we rushed thru there and spent about 1 hour. We were on the bus on our way back by 2:30. Let me say that he initially told us that the tour would be over by 6pm. On the bus he kept talking about tips and basically making us feel obligated to give him a tip. When I gave him the tip, he counted it right in front of me and was upset that he got a small tip. Basically this was the tour from hell and seriously urge you to stay away. Reading the other reviews I realized that I wasnt the only one.

It ended up great! Thank you Cathy!
This tour was the most imformative of all of the tours I booked in Beijing. Cathy was great, considerate and really knew what she was talking about. It was me and one other traveller so we got Cathy to ourselves. It felt like a private tour! The silk museum and pearl market were great. I hadn't planned on buying anything but they had beautiful things so i purchased some gifts which is great. Otherwise i would not have had a chance to get any souveneirs. Thank you Cathy and driver :-)
