What to expect
Wait in your hotel lobby in the morning to meet your guide. Together, you’ll travel to Tiananmen Square, in the geographical heart of the city. Once of the world’s largest central squares, Tiananmen Square covers a vast amount of open space, measuring in at some 440, 000 square meters (109 acres). To put that in perspective, the square is roughly as large as the whole of Vatican City. Stand amid the history as your guide explains its past and points out its significant buildings. From the square, you’ll continue into the Forbidden City with your fast-access prebooked ticket in hand. Make your way to a quiet seating area, and learn about the palace and the Ming and Qing dynasties from your guide. Many say that a visit to the Forbidden City is more about the stories than the sightseeing, and your guide will tell all the tales to make your visit complete. Check out the Meridian Gate, halls of harmony, heavenly purity, earthly tranquility, and unity; and the tree-lined pathways of the Imperial Garden as well as many other significant sights. Read the Itinerary for a full list of attractions that are seen on the tour. Your experience ends in the grounds of the Imperial Garden but you can spend longer inside the Forbidden City, if you wish.

Lucy's Forbidden City Tour
Oct. 2019
We booked the 5h tour and Lucy was our guide. She picked us up from our Hotel very timely and organised the transportation to Tiananmen square, where we met four more participants of the tour (in total we've been six). We started with exploring the square and got to know the buildings on/around it. Then Lucy organised our tickets and we entered the palace museum -- were really happy to bypass the huge crowd that wants to get in. Inside the palace, however, people are more dispersed and we had a relaxed tour of all the highlights. The tour ended with visits to two museums on site. There are plenty of shops selling souvenirs, drinks and snacks but almost no trees! Beware of the sun! ;-) The itinerary is perfect to get an impression of imperial life in the palace and organised very well, everything went quite smooth. Lucy is a passionate guide, speaks very good English and knows the palace inside out. She answered our manifold questions about the palace, its history until today but also everyday life in China. :-) Lucy was very attentive and made sure we enjoyed our trip, providing help with taking pictures and valuable tips for our stay in Beijing. One of her recommendations was to visit Jingshan park after the tour, just opposite the exit gate of the forbidden city. It is a little hill from where you have a fantastic view over the palace and central Beijing.

Very engaging and fun tour with Jimmy
My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to be lead on a private tour because there were no other bookings and skipped the long queues because we were with a tour guide. We had Jimmy as our guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable, especially on the topic of the last emperor. He kept us engaged the whole 5 hours with information on Tianmen Square and the Forbidden City. He was also very caring and responsible - he even called the night before to make sure we bring everything we need and answered all my housekeeping questions. Because lunch isn't provided, he took the bus with us after the tour had ended to show us where to try traditional Beijing food like luzhu (卤煮). It is worth mentioning that this tour doesn't cover every building in the Forbidden City but was still very comprehensive. Overall we really enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend Jimmy!

Excellent Tour of the Forbidden City!
Jul. 2019 • Couples
We booked this great tour with Lucy! Everything worked perfectly well. She picked us up at our hotel right on time (which is in our experience not that usual with other tour guides/operator). First, she led us around Tiananmen Square and told us about its history and present significance. In the Forbidden City, we were able to jump the queues because Lucy had prebooked our tickets which saved us a lot of time. Again, she gave us a deep insight into the history of the Forbidden City and China in general and we learned many things that we did not know. Although she gave us very detailed information, it was easy to listen to her and understand her. We can only recommend this tour to everyone and if you are interested in history, then there is really no better way to discover the Forbidden City.

Great tour and tour guide
Jul. 2019 • Couples
My husband and I had a really good time visiting the Forbidden City. Jimmy was a really fun tour guide; he has a good sense of humor and knows how to help us navigate the crowd. He has lots of historical information to share but also lots of other interesting stories to tell as well. As he has been to Malaysia (where we were originally from), we made a very interesting discovery and connection between the 2nd Ming emperor and Malacca. Throughout the tour, we did not feel rush; Jimmy allowed us lots of flexible time for photos etc and it was also probably because we were the only 2 on the tour even though this was a small group tour. All in all, we had a really wonderful time and Jimmy was an excellent guide with excellent English! Highly recommend him and the tour!

Lucy made the tour fun, educational and helped us get started in Beijing!
Jun. 2019 • Couples
This tour and our guide Lucy was a great way to begin our stay in Beijing. Not only did Lucy give us a fun and informative tour of the “must sees” Tiananmen Square, Mao’s mausoleum, and the Forbidden City, she helped orient us to the subway and bus system of Beijing. For example, she helped us get subway passes (which can be used on buses) and guided us on which bus we should take to get back to our hutong. (We stayed at the Shichahai Shadow Art Performance Hotel.) Start your stay in Beijing on the right foot by taking this tour with Lucy early!

Great tour with Miss Becky!
May 2019 • Couples
We had Miss Becky for our tour. She was prompt arriving to our hotel to meet us. She was helpful and attentive in every way - letting us know what to expect and explaining it all in details. And, her English was very good. She was very informative of both Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, and she was very aware of our needs - temperature, hunger, thirst, need of restroom, etc. I loved the detail she gave us of the Emperors that lived in the Forbidden City. She knew exactly where to go and how to tell us what to look for in order to not miss anything. She even gave us a sheet that had useful traveler phrases translated for us and a sheet on a timeline of the Chinese dynasties. We enjoyed and learned a lot. It was time and money well spent. Thanks, Becky!

Excellent tour with Susan
May 2019 • Couples
Susan arrived at the hotel lobby on time and quickly became one of the best decisions since arriving in Beijing. We took a taxi to the Forbidden City. Susan pointed out many things of interest on the way. Once we arrived we jumped the lines and had a great morning with Susan. The weather was dreadful but she didn’t rush us and she had great knowledge of the city. Once the tour was over she dropped us at a restaurant giving us guidance as to how to get back to our hotel. Susan was awesome and we wouldn’t hesitate in recommending her. We only wished we’d done the Great Wall with her ...

An informative and fun morning tour
Apr. 2019 • Couples
We had a great 5 hour tour of the forbidden city with Becky. We had a small group and a nice structure to our tour. Becky's english is amazing and she has such great energy; in addition, she has so much knowledge on the imperial history. She also recommended a wonderful vegetarian dumpling place to eat after our tour, which was a highlight of our time in China. A great tour, I would recommend booking during your time in Beijing.

Super fun and Informative tour!
Apr. 2019 • Family
Becky was a wonderful tour guide with great energy and information. As a first time visitor of China, Becky provided an incredible tour and provided concise details about each area of the forbidden city. Her English skills are very strong and her positive energy made the five hour tour fly by. I especially loved the structure of the tour, which provided a balanced combination of group information and individual exploration periods. I would highly recommend Becky to English speakers and first time travelers. I guarantee you will walk away from the tour with a whole understanding of China’s imperial history. If I come back to Beijing I’m booking Becky!
