About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Annieclimb0 contributionsMemorable wildlife, scenery and cultural & farm tours, but guide didn't meet our expectations. We saw a ton of wildlife. The guide was knowledgable about what we were seeing and also shared about his own Maasai culture. He taught us songs and Swahili words. He went out of his way to bring us close to amazing animals. Wi-fi in his vehicle which was a perk for looking up stuff about what we were seeing. We had intentionally booked with this locally owned Safari business, so our investment would benefit local people. Stacey and Kimani, staff members in the Nairobi office, were reachable by WhatsApp. The lodging they arranged for this private safari was good to excellent as was the food. The beauty of Kenya and the amazing opportunity to see the animals exceeded my highest expectations of a safari. I would have given Samson's Safaris more stars, but our guide was lacking professionalism. He was often late to pick us up, even when we'd made the extra effort to rise before sunrise to be ready and waiting at the pick up time he'd said. This lax approach continued even after we'd emphasized our expectation of promptness to him as well as his bosses. If he got behind on our schedule, he just said he'd add that thing to tomorrow, but in reality there would not be enough time. Each day was full. Also, he'd make changes without involving us in such decisions. After getting lost and missed turns, we started using Google Maps to help direct him. One time he said he didn't have enough money to pay the park entrance fees and asked us to cover for him. The Land Cruiser he drove had least three seatbelts that didn't work or were trapped out of reach under the seat. The second row, the easiest seats to get in and out of and that had the best view and the most leg room had broken seat belts. Partway through our week, after continued problems, the management drove for hours to our location, intending to dine with us and present us with a complimentary hippo cruise. The problem here is they didn't ask us if we'd like this, and to even do it we'd have to skip something else on our schedule. We preferred a family dinner, not a dinner with them, so they spent a day coming to our location and adding things we couldn't use and didn't want without asking us. It was awkward.Written 13 January 2025

- Resort2359130 contributionsWonderful Safari ExperienceThis safari experience was amazing! The van was very comfortable. Our guide was knowledgable on all the animals we saw, and he knew where to go for us to see so many different species. Also, the views were spectacular!!Written 24 November 2024
- KiranDSouza0 contributionsA Carnivorous AfternoonI was a bit curious at the odd choice of name, it all becomes clear as you enter the restaurant and see the various meats being grilled on the enormous spit. And once you're seated, it just keeps coming and coming. Right from Chicken to Ostrich and Goat to Beef and everything in between, you really need a huge appetite to eat it all. Stacy was a charming and well travelled host. Alloy, our driver was very polite too as were all the waiters and restaurant staff. An afternoon well taken care off!! Thank you!!Written 3 November 2024

- H2908OZleilam0 contributionsSomething smelt fishy !My colleague and I booked this trip for August 2024. I paid Tripadvisor and received our tickets immediately. A day later I received a message via WhatsApp from someone from Samson's Safaris saying that they have had problems in the past with Tripadvisor and often they had to return money to clients, etc etc. He suggested that I cancel my tour on Tripadvisor and I should transfer money onto his account. Obviously, I declined and said that I am happy to stay with Tripadvisor. Later that day I received a cancellation e-mail from Trip advisor and a message from Samson Safaris saying that his boss insisted that they cancel this trip, I should go into the website and request a refund and that we can pay them cash on pick-up. I was so annoyed! He then began negotiating a cheaper rate with me. I got my refund from Tripadvisor, but also cancelled the trip with Samson's Safaris because this entire experience smelt fishy, and this was not a cheap trip. Unfortunately, I never got to go to the Maasai Mara, but I booked a trip to Amboseli Park through Tripadvisor and thoroughly enjoyed that. Suggest Tripadvisor remove Samson's Safaris from their website.Written 4 September 2024
- 381mannats0 contributionsStandard safari experienceWe did the Nairobi > Masai Mara > Nakuru (via Naivasha) tour. The booking process and general communication of Samson tours was good. On the ground, if you are doing a group tour, there is a lot of chopping and changing of groups across the various tour operators so you should be prepared for that and the inefficiencies that introduces. The key point is that your guide / driver can make or break your trip. The driver we had for Masai Mara was not great so that really impacted the tour. You also need to be proactive in extracting information from the head office (eg they changed our hotel and didn’t inform us. We didn’t mind but there may be others that do).Written 28 August 2024

- 65catl0 contributionsWorst customer service ever experienced - upsetting, insulting and ripped offBe extremely careful booking with this company. I’ve been travelling in Tanzania and Kenya for the last month and Samson Safari are the worst company I’ve had the unpleasant experience of dealing with. Having paid over $3000 for a safari trip which promised 3/4 star accommodation, I went on my safari with high hopes for an amazing experience. My driver Mohammed was great, we had fun and he delivered an excellent time in the parks, however on the second night we arrived in Amboselli and my dream trip turned out to be a scam. Rather than the described accommodation, Samson Safari booked me into a $90 a night budget camp. Nothing like the photos and description on the website. They give examples of what the accommodation will be similar to and it’s NOTHING like it. I contacted them via Whatsapp to ask what had happened and could they fix it and here’s where things got ugly. They responded with no apology and told me they had no responsibility for my experience as I booked via Viator. Even though they advertise on there and the process is that the tour operator gets paid in 30 days by Viator, Samson Safari decided I should get no help and was extremely rude. I spent the first night of my safari alone in a camp that was nothing like I’d paid for and in tears because Samson Safari simply told me to not message them. They told me the difference in accommodation was my problem for not booking directly with them. They said that they didn’t have any 3/4 star accommodation available for the trip so basically I’m stuck with budget tent and no refund for the $3180. I’m owed at least $400 as this is the different in the accommodation prices between what was promised and what was provided. What I found completely unbelievable is that also said they have no obligation to deal with complaints or enquiries from me(!) and when I highlighted that this was a bad attitude to have towards customers that have paid a lot of money to be their guest them, I was told I have a bad attitude and not to contact them any further. They continued to say I hadn’t paid them a cent when they have over $3000 of my money. On top of this, they didn’t organise accommodation for my driver so he was having to find somewhere to stay each night which is terrible as his rest ensures my safety. It’s very clear to me that this company has no idea when it comes to customer service or how to properly run its financing. So, here I am spending what should be a dream night now in a budget camp with no views, burnt pancakes for breakfast, no swimming pool and no drinking water provided. I’m a solo female traveller and they’ve taken zero care about my experience or enjoyment and you can see how they’ve spoken to me in the attached WhatsApp screenshots. I am now writing this review as I sit on day four of the safari on the EIGHT HOUR DRIVE back to Diani which is not described in the itinerary. My driver had been trying to sort me a train or a flight as it is such a long drive and not pleasant. Here’s the deal, if you want your holiday ruined by a complete stranger promising a great time and then providing you a super budget camp, book with Samson Safari. Any issues and Samson Safari will tell you that you have a bad attitude. You’ll learn it’s your fault for booking through a platform they choose to advertise on and they’ll take zero interest in your satisfaction of the trip. While the wildlife has been nice, I leave my safari feeling scammed, and just hoping that Viator can sort something out and stop platforming this company. See some of the WhatsApp conversation to get an idea!Written 9 August 2024
- heatherkQ869XE0 contributionsBIG 5 Star ReviewWe actually did TWO safaris with Samson during our stay in Kenya! A 2-Day Lake Victoria/Ruma National Park tour with a group of 12 that came for a mission trip and the 4-day Maasai Mara/Lake Nakuru agenda for my family of 5. Kimani did a fantastic job helping me arrange something budget-friendly but animal-packed for the group tour. Ruma was the perfect place for a meaningful experience in a short amount of time. The Mara/Nakuru tour was incredible. So much work went into making this tour personal for my family. We did and saw more than we could have hoped. I really appreciated how Samson networks with local small-business owners to lift others in their community. We left with friendships with the Samson staff that we hope will last a lifetime. See you all next time Kimani, Stacy, Dan, and Warren!Written 3 July 2024
- ArnieSchiofromNY0 contributionsEXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME!!EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME!!! I waited so long to do a safari in Kenya and I definitely chose the right company! The coordination by Stacey and Kimani was perfect DVD the guides Stanley and Gilbert were absolutely outstanding! I felt safe as a solo woman traveler and was treated like a VIP. The guides were extremely knowledgeable, respectful and accommodating. I saw so many animals and breathtaking scenery. I am already planning to come back with family members. Again, Samson’s safari is top notch on all fronts!Written 17 June 2024
- I1724AYderrickm0 contributionsTHE MARA EXPERIENCEWow, what an adventure! My friends and I had the time of our lives exploring Maasai Mara with Samson's Safaris. From the get-go, the guides were awesome – super knowledgeable and friendly. They showed us all the cool spots and made sure we didn't miss a thing. And let me tell you, the wildlife sightings were insane! Lions, elephants, giraffes – you name it, we saw it. Plus, the landscapes were straight out of a postcard. We even got to hang out with the Maasai people and learn about their way of life, which was really special. But what really blew us away was the attention to detail from Samson's Safaris. From sunrise breakfasts to sunset drinks, every moment felt magical. And the best part? Knowing that we were supporting conservation efforts while having the time of our lives. If you're thinking of going on safari, do yourself a favor and go with Samson's Safaris. Trust me, you won't regret it!Written 8 April 2024
