My most beautiful memories in Nairobi
Sep. 2019
I spent half day with amazing grandmothers in the beautiful countryside near Nairobi. They told me their resilient life and how they live. It was so incredible experience that let so beautiful memories in my heart. As soon as I met them, they welcomed me with warmth and smiles. Feed the pigs and walk in the village with them was an experience I will never forget. Kenya is not only safaris, this is their so kind and brave people too.
A special thanks to Caroline who was so nice guide and help me more than she has to! Thanks again One Horizon and Caroline, you made my second day in Nairobi, my most beautiful day in Nairobi.

Amazing and very humbling
Oct. 2019
Strong, resilient grandmothers who all have their own story to tell of their youth and young married life, then on to how they now raise their grandchildren when necessary. One Horizon does a great job of not giving a handout, but a helping hand through the giving of piglets to help these grandmothers be independent. Most heartwarming to me was the circle of support and love they provide to each other. Opened my eyes and my heart.

A Wonderful, Heartfelt Experience
This meaningful and heartfelt experience should be a integral part of any traveler's Nairobi itinerary. Spending a half day with the beautiful and resilient grandmothers who've benefited from the generosity and ingenuity of One Horizon was an eye opening experience and also very fun, especially making chapati and feeding pigs. Even the short drive out to their village was unique escape from the huddle and bussle of the Nairobi cityscape, seeing the many businesses and farms of hardworking Kenyans. Special recognition goes to facilitator Caroline who was a phenomenal translator and guide. Fantastic!!

Inspirational Grandmas
Jul. 2019 • Solo
I spent the day with One Horizon and visited 2 grandma's who are part of this amazing program. The 2 grandma's stories brought me to tears listening to their inspirational stories which was an an honour and a privilege to hear. I bought a piglet to give to another grandma to start her own business. I was amazed at the method in which methane gas was created to pipe into the stove for cooking. We made chappati together and shared lunch under the avocado and custard apple trees. This was the most memorable experience and will stay with me in my heart.

Only 7 review so far... are you kidding me?!?
Apr. 2019 • Solo
Of all the activities I did on my visit to Nairobi, this was easily the most underrated one that caught me by surprise. Note that because of the way the project is structured (they'll explain at the beginning of the tour), there is no market pickup. But what you will do is visit two homes and hear almost unthinkable stories of rural village life. You'll see the livestock that they've raised and nurtured into a sustainable business and income stream. This is stuff I've only seen in documentaries. I felt like I was in the middle of a National Geographic feature or Anthony Bourdain episode (RIP). I doubt you'll ever run into more resilient people in your lifetime, and I will think of these women the next time I think I have problems. Lastly, the tour guides were fantastic! Friendly, informative, and professional. A+!!!

From farm to feast. The Grandmother Project
Highly recommended. Open Horizon has many projects in Kenya. They do tours to support their projects. I was picked up at my hotel in Nairobi and we drove about a half hour to the pig farm of Rosemary and her family. We sat in her small family room while she talked about how difficult her life had been before Open Horizon came to the rescue. They set her up as a pig farmer, providing the pigs and the feed as well as the contract with hotels, etc. after 6 months the pigs are sold. I went to Helen’sfarm as well and visited the school which Open Horizon also supports. It was a wonderful day.

This should be your first tour choice in Nairobi
Aug. 2018 • Solo
This tour should be required for every visitor to Nairobi! It provides a unique look into the lives of the Kenyan people. It is life changing as you see the daily struggles and challenges of women who are faced with the burden of providing for their children and grandchildren after growing up in a cycle of never ending poverty. You become an active participant in helping to break the cycle and help them achieve self-reliance. You will interact with wonderful grandmothers who will help you hold and feed their animals. They will share their stories with you, cook with you, teach you, and love and laugh with you. Your heart will open and change for the better.

A wonderful, heartwarming experience
Jul. 2018 • Friends
We took this tour in July, 2018. Colin, the head of the non-profit One Horizon, was our guide to a wonderful and heartwarming experience. 100% of the money we paid for this tour went to purchase piglets for grandmothers who raise the pigs and sell them to provide food for themselves and their grandchildren who they are raising. We met three lovely grandmothers, visited their tiny farms and had a home hosted lunch. It was an amazing experience to hear these women's stories, share in meaningful conversation and even sing and dance with them.
