About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- CleaPNea0 contributionsMy favorite islandSignal island is my favorite island from Nouméa. Turtles, loads of tropical fish, Wonderfull snorkeling. The white sand beach is very beautiful, the water is clear and my little boy swam with the turtles in shallow water. If you want to spend the day there, bring something to eat and drink. There are tables and dry toilets. We were able to relax in the shade of the trees and walk around the island. We love it.Written 8 May 2024
- rickbiederstadt0 contributionsAmazing Amedee Island Noumea Snorkeling TourMarch 30, 2024, What an Amazing Day at Amedee Island by Noumea Turtle Tours Dal'Ocean. We had so much fun at Signal Island with this Tour Operator prior that we re-booked them for the Amedee Island Tour. We were in Noumea via the Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Quantum of the Seas. What a beautiful day! The boat ride was an easy 40-minute transfer. Fish & Turtles everywhere. Coral was amazing. The beach was inspiring. It was such an easy snorkel off the beach. Everything about this day was Amazing! I'd HIGHLY recommend this tour to everyone especially for cruise ship travelers. DO NOT book directly with cruise ships. Book directly with this operator and SAVE Money. Thanks Dallo for making today happen. Truly a Great Day! I will be back to do this tour again. Amedee with the light house was beautiful. Get out there!Written 30 March 2024
- rodcatz0 contributionsDisappointed7 years ago I booked a private tour after arriving on a cruise with Dal Ocean Charter and it was amazing (see previous review). Had such a great time and when we were coming back I contacted Frederic to go on the tour again. This time I was told the private tour with food and guide was unavailable but he did have a private water taxi tour for 1-11 people to signal island. In reality it was 60 people across 5 boats all dropped on Signal Island with another tour company dropping off about the same and the exact opposite of what experience we were looking for. If you use words “private water taxi” it should mean “private”Written 24 March 2024
- AnnieJuly0 contributionsWonderful morning swimming with turtles!!!We had 3 days in Noumea & booked this boat trip before we left home (a couple of months prior). We were very pleased we’d pre booked it. There were 4 boats taking small groups of people to the island. They were organised and gave clear instructions on the process. We enjoyed the speedy boat trip to the island and appreciated Dal Ocean lending us a noodle and snorkel set while on the island. Also the main guy stayed on the island and gave advice to those that required it He also had a first aid kit with him. Staff were friendly & helpful. We swam right near several turtles which we loved!! The scenery is gorgeous!!!Written 16 January 2024
- Mel1Sydney0 contributionsPleasant but expensive afternoonBe aware that this is not a tour. It is a water taxi only. We did the Private Half-Day Wild Side Island Water Taxi Tour From Noumea - with pick up and drop off from Chateaux Royale pontoon being very efficient. Nothing is provided. We took our own snorkels and goggles and luckily did not need flippers. There were no noodles on the boat, as was stated in the email. I also packed a supermarket cold storage bag from Australia which turned out to be useful for the sandwiches and drinks we took. There was no real shade on either of the islands we went to and quite a lot of people around, but that's ok. It's just that they got to the shade first! We found the snorkling just ordinary (we have snorkled a great deal and see that the heating of the oceans is really affecting snorkling and ocean life) and we were unlucky on the turtle front, but that's no one's fault. The best part of this time was the boat ride! It's not cheap tho, at $880 for 4 adults with not even a bottle of water included.Written 6 January 2024

- G7065DJscottw0 contributionsAmidee Island and Outer Reef tripGreat excursion if you are in Noumea. Snorkelling off the beach was fantastic with lots of interesting sealife and coral. The island is very compact, you could walk around it in less than 20 minutes but take your time and keep an eye out for the sea kraits. We counted ten in and around one tree! The lighthouse can be climbed at certain times and the view is well worth it. Many thanks to the guys from Dal'Ocean Charter for our trip!Written 4 September 2023

One of our group members posted about the location of the stand to buy tickets, so we headed there immediately after getting off the ship. purchased tickets and were on our way to signal island within 15 minutes. Absolutely beautiful, paradise island, what else can I say. We brought our own snorkeling equipment, but they have for you if you don't. We saw unbelievable beautiful fish and quite a few turtles. Bathrooms are rustic but it's an uninhabitable island. Go, have fun and enjoy.Written 2 February 2023

- LilTui0 contributionsGreat experience ruined by awful service!Trip to Signal Island was awesome HOWEVER, what transpired in the weeks after was a NIGHTMARE! Dal Ocean charged my card TWICE and ignored my email about it. Only when I sent a follow up email and mentioned bank involvement did they admit to the mistake. After weeks of emails and excuses, they took MORE money and I was then owed $500+ NZD! They eventually fixed their mistake 2 weeks AFTER they took the first lot of money (yes, they charged me THREE times). I still LOST money in the end as they REFUSED to cover the cost of conversion fees despite me asking for every dollar BACK. This might be something you want to consider before booking as they DIDN'T accept cash payments and required me to save my card details when booking online. Can you afford to have hundreds of dollars wrongfully STOLEN from your account and wait weeks for it to HOPEFULLY be returned?Written 4 October 2022
- donkeyLam0 contributionslast min cancelMy 1st time to Neumeu and for 4 days only, I thought I will pick Signal Island instead of Amedee for more remote and better chance to spot wild life. and relax.. Dal'Ocean have limited services (no 1/2 day trip as I would like) - email back and forward was abit confusing and cold (assume non-English speaking issue), but they promise weather will be good for Sunday. Being travel sole and non-French speaker, my host help me to arrange taxi to arrive early at the port. I waited at the port for 30min and there were no show from Dal'Ocean Charter. Only to find out later that they have email me 6pm the night before to cancel the trip and want to rearrange for Monday instead, due to weather (windy, but sunny out of 4 days I was in Neumeu). I was all dress and plan for Island trip out (carrying 2L of water as suggested to bring alot of water).. How embarrassing is that to carry all that around. I email back at a free wifi location to say Monday fine and I have waited for 30min. Next thing I know they have canceled the booking with no explaining or confusing on my payment etc. Now, I have missed out on going to any of the Islands b/c of timing issue with other operators. Would I able to get away as a customer decide to cancel a trip with less than 24 hrs notice? Completely poor communication. Could have call my contact no# or at least a notice / note at the port for me to know. Or someone be there just in case I don't get the email? NOTHING. Absolutely rubbish services. If you are looking at trust and reputable service, Dal'Ocean Charter is not one of them. Either try Mary'D or something much smaller who actually want your business.Written 8 August 2022

This tour is well worth the money at around $70 per person. You can book on arrival but it is best to book on line especially if arriving by Cruise ship with lots of other passengers and you are best to book the early departure (9:30am). The boat ride out was bumpy and even bumpier on the way back - our teenager loved it - this is clearly explained on their website and note they don’t take you if you are over 80 years of age. Another reason to go early is that there is limited shade but there are several undercover areas that have been built on Signal Island to share. We snorkelled further from the beach than most and saw 5 turtles that were really healthy. We swam with them for over an hour and they came up for breath so we got a good viewing. There is also healthy coral and lots of fish. There were also turtles near the beach. We also walked around the island which doesn’t take long but be aware the grass is spikey so take Reef shoes.

The sea was a little choppy because of the cyclone that had just passed by Fiji late Dec2019 but the skipper of our little boat was such a pro at speeding through the waves in smooth motions. There were a whole bunch of kids on our boat that absolutely loved it and the kid in all of us enjoyed it too. It was a jetboat adventure and relaxing escape all in one.
The island itself is gorgeous with white sandy beaches and crystal clear water. We managed to see two turtles while we were there. One in the shallows munching on seaweed and another frolicking with us in the further out snorkeling area.
Watch out for the sun though. There isn't a whole lot of shade so be ultra vigilant with sunscreen here.
10/10 would recommend.

Signal Island is a wonderful natural habitat for turtles, fish and other sea creatures such as starfish and sea cucumbers. It is a marine reserve which means there is very little infrastructure other than a jetty - no toilet facilities. The turtles are feeding and swimming right near the beach. There is a snorkeling guide by the name of Blueman who will take photos underwater with you and take you all around the area to the best places so the extra money you pay for his expertise is well worthwhile. Ask DalOcean for his contact details We will be back!

Found and booked this tour in advance, for our group of 9, based on reviews in Trip Advisor. It was easy to find the meeting place once we had gotten off our cruise ship. The friendly staff offered us the opportunity to have a guided tour when we got to Signal Island for an additional $40pp but we declined as they supplied a map and it looked easy enough. As we are all confident swimmers, this was no issue at all but for beginner snorkellers or not-confident swimmers, it may be a good option.
Our rubber ducky boat ride took about half an hour to get to Signal Island. We took our own snorkelling gear but masks and snorkels were provided for those who didn’t have any. We had a fantastic time swimming with turtles and fish over the reef which is all close to the island and easily accessible from the beach on what was a picture perfect day.
The wind had picked up a bit by the time we had to leave, creating more waves and the ride back to port was awesome as it was like being in a jet boat ride. A bonus adventure to cap off our snorkelling one. So much fun and a very memorable holiday highlight!

Signal Island is a beautiful spot and provided the amazing opportunity to swim with turtles as well as seeing the abundant reef life only meters from the shore. The staff were also very helpful and spoke to the group in three different languages which was very impressive!
When I had booked the trip a few weeks ago it was lodged as "a half-day tour including lunch". The posting has since been updated to say it does not include lunch (we ended going hungry and not eating our first meal of the day until after 4pm which was far from ideal). It's worth noting that this is not a tour service. Essentially what you get is a watertaxi out to the island and your ticket includes a regional park entry as the whole island is part of a marine reserve.
Despite the slight communication, the service that was provided was professional and well equipped and Signal Island itself did not disappoint!

We highly recommend this tour to any customers considering more affordable options to the cruise tours. We were dropped by our ship at the city cruise terminal and the tour group we had pre booked with was very easy to find. The trip out and back with April on the speedboat is a lot of fun. The water is beautiful and our kids were able to follow 6 0r 7 turtles feeding for hours. There was plenty of shade. We bought food from the Boulangerie a 5 min walk away (around corner from supermarket opposite the terminal). You don’t need flippers since water very calm. We took our own masks but these were also provided. English is very good. An absolute must do - don’t pay double to go to Amedee Is with the cruise groups!

We thoroughly enjoyed out tour and Jean-Rene was brilliant. Everything was explained very well and all the gear was readily available (unlike other tours here) and of high quality. Jean-Rene went over and above, one of the group was not confident in the deeper waters. He took him out separately to make sure he did not miss out on the experience (he got to see turtles close up). I strongly recommend you do this tour, great value for money and lots of fun.

We had a great time!! The tour organisers were efficient and well organised with good communication. The boat ride was a bit bumpy but it was a windy day. Signal Island is your quintessential deserted island and the underwater wildlife is amazing. We snorkelled for several hours and saw turtles, black tip reef sharks and an incredible variety of fish.
Make sure you bring water and food as there is “nothing” on the island, no shops (this is explained well in the booking)
We would do this activity again when visiting Noumea as we’d like to walk around the whole island next time.

This was our 2nd time to Signal Island with Noumea Turtle Tour, our first time was last September and we loved it so much we returned this month.
It was just as special as we remembered and was a fantastic day seeing lots of turtles and the fun boat ride over and back to Noumea was a highlight.
I thoroughly recommend this tour and tour company. You will have a fantastic day and Frederick and his team will totally look after you.
We will be back in Noumea again in October and are looking forward to seeing Laregnere Island on the catamaran tour.

I love diving and snorkelling, signal island has it all within easy snorkelling from the beach. Coral, reef fish and sea horses in warm and fairly shallow water. A littler deeper, I swam with a curious turtle along the sea bed seemingly following me up for breath and back under again. Looking into that big eye is definitely a bigger buzz than just observing from the surface. A swim under the pier and I came face to face with a very cool reef shark who had less interest in me than I did in it. It just casually swam away but left me in awe of this wonderful creature. There's a greater variety of sea life here in a small area than anywhere else I've snorkelled including the nearby Isle of Pines and Lifou which are also fantastic.
To get there just book one of the water taxis for a good value day out. Take your own lunch and water as this is an island with only a handful of tourists and wildlife - nothing else but peace and quiet.

Is snorkeling recommend for non swimmers. Is this a guided tour for non swimmers or is it possible to have that extra option ???
Written 26 January 2020
You can stay inside the lagoon where water is not too high, you can see turtles, colorful fishes and corals there as well. If you won't feel like swimming in deep waters then you can skip that part. However, no particular swimming skill is required when you wear fins and mask

Hi, we are looking at doing the noumena turtle tour from our cruise to Signal island. My his back does not swim but happy to snorkel off the shore. Does the trip take to to land where he might be able to see turtles and coral or is it straight off the boat?
Thank you

Hello! Definitely do the tour. I don’t like swimming / snorkelling in deep water, so I stayed close to shore and saw fish and turtles. I spent most of the time up to my waist and I saw turtles! 😍
There is also a long wooden jetty so you can walk out and sit on that.
Make sure you take sunscreen, a hat, towel, water and a little food to keep you going.
Enjoy 🐢🐠

Is it easy to get on & off the boat
Written 21 December 2018
The answer would have to be no. It depends on yourself. When first getting on you have to be able to step on a moving boat from steps which isn't so bad. When you get to the island it is basically falling over the side to get off but that is also OK as you can't fall far and is into water or that is how we done it. There is a jetty that was being worked on so not sure if that is why we didn't use it. Now getting back into the boat to head home was a bit harder, they had a plastic step in the water and you had to stand on it and climb aboard. They do help and was just part of the fun...
