11 Day Kokoda Trek From Port Moresby

11 Day Kokoda Trek From Port Moresby

By Adventure Kokoda
The trek follows the original wartime trail and includes all sites of military significance during the Kokoda campaign. The itinerary allows a visit to Lake Myola and camp at Bombers Campsite which is the best site along the trail – the only one with a hot shower! We also trek across to the eastern side of the range that was defended by the 53rd and 2/16th Battalions. The trek includes a solemn Dawn Service involving trekkers and our PNG guides and carriers at the Isurava Memorial. This service is regarded as the highlight of the Kokoda trek experience.

A meaningful trek with the fabulous David Sherry as Trek Leader. It's a physical and mental challenge and along the way David shares the war history along the trail. It's poignant that this campaign was instrumental in stopping the Japanese advance to the Australian mainland and yet the scale of the heroism is known by few in Australia. I would recommend the Adventure Kokoda tour to all Australians. I've taken my sons and I know it has left an indelible memory of what it means to be Australian.

      Kokoda Trek October 2023
The trip leaders Jake Leske and Brody Murray did a wonderful job getting us through what was no doubt the greatest physical challenge I’ve ever experienced, with constant rain, mud, landslides and dodgy creek crossings to overcome.

      Kokoda Trail October 2023
We completed the Kokoda trail with trek leader Jake Leske and 2IC Brody Murray from 03/10/23 - 12/10/23. It was a fantastic adventure. Learned heaps about the battle history of Kokoda and would highly recommend the trek with Adventure Kokoda to anybody that is thinking about doing it. The porters are absolutely amazing and are with you every step of the journey. Good was good and the views are awesome. Do yourself a favour and book this trip of a lifetime!

Physically, mentally and emotionally life altering. A must for all Australians
Everyone from the trek leaders to the support staff were incredibly. Trek leaders Dave sherry and Jake Leske are outstanding. Not only did they support us in the physical aspect of the track but also the mental and emotional. The experience they create by immersing you into the history and sacrifice of those before us is is truly life changing and is something that will be remembered forever .A must for all Australians and in my opinion Adventure Kokoda would be the only organisation to share that experience with . I cannot thank each and every individual associated enough they truly are amazing

Adventure Kokoda what an amazing experience.
No words can describe this amazing experience. Dave's knowledge of the history of the kokoda trail and his poems immersed us into the hardships the diggers faced. Jake's ongoing encouragement at low points was exactly what was needed to power on and get there. Dave and Jake never gave up on me when the going got tough and that truly made the difference between giving up and getting on with it. The porters were completely respectful and encouraging. The work these men do for us was amazing and as a woman i never felt uncomfortable in the presence of the porters and guides. They truly are angels watching over our shoulders catching us before we fall. My porter truly did spoil me with making sure i had water at all times and making sure i didnt need for anything. The guides and porters were always good for a laugh or just a chat about their culture. Highly reccomend Adventure Kokoda from the moment of booking Tracie was a wealth of knowledge and always had time to answer questions. Getting off the plane in PNG being met with friendly smiles of the adventure kokoda staff truly made for a relaxed and easy transition to the hotel. The food along the track was plentiful and we were never left hungry. If I was ever to trek Kokoda again I would 100% go with Adventure Kokoda again. The extra day to explore plane wrecks was something I've not seen any other company offer and made for an amazing extra experience.

Adventure Kokoda History Trek - what a truly amazing adventure it was!
Absolutely loved the Adventure Kokoda 8 day history trek! I cannot thank our trek leader, PNG porters & all the Adventure Kokoda staff enough for making it such a fantastic experience. Our leader Peter Morrison was so knowledgeable - he ensured we got a true understanding & appreciation of the conditions that were faced, the resilience shown, & mate-ships formed. My PNG porter Rex was an absolute superstar - not only carrying my pack, but answering all my questions, educating me on his life, & encouraging me when things got really tough. Thanks Rex!! The Kokoda track itself is epic - physically & emotionally challenging, but so rewarding and such an experience. I feel privileged to have almost made it and hope to get another chance to compete those last few days! I was unfortunately forced off the track with 3 days left due to injury. However, from the moment it happened, I was in the best of hands. The PNG medic & porters swung into action, getting me safely down the mountain to our campsite for the night. Our trek leader, PNG representative & Aus-based AK staff ensured a medi-vac was arranged for the first available time. Choppered out safely, I was transported to the International Hospital by another AK staff member (Helen), who also stayed with me whilst I was seen by the Doctor. But it didn't end there, the AK Moresby based staff continued to check on me, looking after me while I was recovering (thanks again Helen & Donald!). Despite the pain I was in, I always felt like everything was 100% under control and I was cared for in the best possible manner. Highly recommend Adventure Kokoda & hope the get another chance at those last 3 days in future!

      Adventure of a lifetime!
I had the best time trekking with Adventure Kokoda. Everything ran smoothly with transfers to/from the hotel and track, and the accommodation in Port Moresby was clean and comfortable. The effort they go to to organise food supplies that not only last the whole trek, but also cater to the groups requirements is just wonderful. All the local PNG staff - the Porters, cooks, equipment carriers etc were absolutely outstanding with how they helped and cared for each and every one of us. This kind of experience would not be possible without them. The cherry on top was the insight into the history of the Kokoda campaign that was shared with us by our trek leader Peter. The emotion and passion he conveyed when retelling stories and reciting poetry added so much more to the overall experience. He helped me walk away with a greater understanding and appreciation for the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for us and our country. I would highly recommend trekking with Adventure Kokoda to anyone who is wanting the full Kokoda experience.

If the opportunity is given to you to go and do the Kokoda trail make the most of it and seize the opportunity.
This was the best experience I have ever had and I would do it again in a heart beat. My favorite part of the experience was going to the different villagers and getting to know everyone. When ever my friends or family ask me what I did over there I always wonder where to start. My favorite memories which I am always sharing was day three when I was with a few others and we were playing down ball with the village kids. One of the little girls was so gorgeous, the only word she could say in English was awesome. My porter Jeffery was so friendly and was always there when I needed him. I'm a bit of cluts so it was so good to have extra hand.

      Trip of a life time
I went on the trek in July with leader Dave Sherry, a few groups of trekkers had come together to make this a very large group of 27. Whilst i had my doubts about the size of the group getting along and stretching out along the track, it was soon put to rest as everyone got to know each other, set a nice comfortable pace and were there to help each other when needed. Dave (with a little help from 2ic Chris) had the total respect of all trekkers, porters and guides from start to finish, he's knowledge of the events that happened along the trail and he's ability to present them at certain spots along the trail were spot on. The way he presented his poems, were second to none. Plenty of photos and memories were made, and I will forever be grateful. So a big thankyou to all at Adventure Kokoda, Tracie, Donald, Helen and all support staff. For me, I just wanted to experience walking the trail, but have come away with so much more including the respect I have for those who went before us. The only thing I would like to suggest is that there is a bit more communication from the admin to the trekkers in the months leading up to the trek, even if it's just a quick check in to put minds at ease! I would highly recommend Adventure Kokoda for your trip across the Kokoda Track, Jamie O'Dea

      A first class experience!
Excellent trip, everything went very smoothly. Dave Sherry was a great trek leader, very informative on the history and empathetic (indeed waxing poetic) on the diggers' experience and also an excellent, wise and kind leader of our group. AK take very good care of the local porters, checking they were not overloaded and anxious as to their arrangements in camp. The food is camping food but well prepared and hygiene etc was excellent. It was very nice to have someone else pitch and strike the tents ever day after a long time walking. I travelled with my 16 years old and he was made very welcome and supported as well. Kokoda can be pretty intimidating before hand and I feel we made a really good choice of company.

Kokoda physically demanding, and emotionally challenging
Without a doubt an experience to be remembered, physically demanding, and emotionally challenging. The support crew and trek leaders were excellent, our carriers were quietly "ever-present", always ready to help, catch before you hit the ground, and willing to let you into their lives in the quiet moments on the track. If you're wanting a challenge that will have you contemplating the history of WW11, the sacrifice, and extraordinary human feats in terrain that is truly remarkable this trek is the one.

An extraordinary adventure well managed from my first contact with the company right through until the end. Very professional. The Kokoda Track is difficult and we were provided with training tips and all the information to be ready well in advance to give sufficient time to train..
On the track we were led by Major Scott Babington, who's passion and knowledge of the Kokoda track history and battles was unbelievable. I had read the books and while they describe what happened, Scott provided the why and how and it felt like we travelled with the battalions along the way, understanding what our diggers did, and also the Papuan people and their vital role. The countryside is beautiful, the walking tough and be prepared to be wet. River crossings, walking through swamp and climbing up and down steep terrain through the most pristine mountain ranges. On arrival at camp the tents were set up and meals generally ready, don't expect hot water, but collapsing in a stream at the end of the day was great.
There were inevitable delays both in travel and on the track, all just taken in stride and alternative plans made. A delay to a flight to Kokoda from Pt Moresby, no problem, jump in a mini bus and we will show you some of Pt Moresby.
We saw other trekkers along the track, and I believe that Adventure Kokoda offers the best option, the Papuan porters enjoy working for this company, and Adventure Kokoda are respected at every village.
My advice if you choose to do this, follow the tips given, train hard , be prepared and travel with Adventure Kokoda.
Thank you to Scott, Tracie and the entire Adventure Kokoda team.

Such a rewarding experience. We were always in good hands and Adventure Kokoda have been doing this long enough now to have the process sorted. We knew months in advance what we needed to do to prepare and what equipment we needed to have. Our guide and PNG porters were exceptional. No matter how exhausting the walk we took time to learn about the villagers life and culture. Most importantly was the war history we were taught from our guide Peter and for us to honour our soldiers as we walked kept us going.
Beautiful creek crossings and scenery along the way. Dawn service at memorial at Isuava was moving.
