About
Adventure Kokoda 10-Day Premium Campaign trek is the complete package.
The trek follows the original wartime trail and includes all sites of military significance during the Kokoda campaign – battlesites, patrol tracks, major logistic areas Lake Myola and fire support bases.
The itinerary includes two nights at Bombers campsite which allows trekkers to spend a day exploring both Myola lakes and inspecting the American P40 Kittyhawk fighter aircraft that crashed on the northern edge of the lakes.
Trekkers return to Bombers campsite for a late lunch and a ‘make-and-mend’ afternoon in the glorious tranquillity of the Moss Forest.
The trek includes a solemn Dawn Service involving trekkers and our PNG guides and carriers at the Isurava Memorial. This service is regarded as the highlight of the Kokoda trek experience.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jeff B0 contributionsAdventure of a lifetime!I recently completed the history trek with Adventure Kokoda with Peter Morrison as our trek leader. It was the most challenging, brutal, beautiful rewarding thing I’ve ever done and would strongly recommend this company to anyone planning on doing this. Peter’s knowledge/passion of the war history was outstanding and his story telling was mesmerising. He is also one of the nicest worldly people you will ever meet which made the days easier and more enjoyable as he’ll chat to you about all sorts and makes you feel comfortable every step of the way. It’s also very clear he’s loved by all the villages we passed through. I brought my 14yo son with me and the support he was given was amazing. His personal carrier Rex was with him every step of the way either behind him holding his pack down steep descents or sliding down rocks or cutting through the jungle to get in front to help him down hard and dangerous parts. We also both have coeliac disease which was accommodated for with a variety of different options. This was well above my expectations and would 💯 use them again if I ever go again.Written 12 September 2024
- adrienroazoppi0 contributionsIt has been incredible to learn the history surrounding this magical experience of the Kokoda Trek.It has been a great experience to have been able to do this trekking with Adventure Kokoda, great organization, excellent staff and a wonderful guide Peter Merrison, with a high level of appeal, very cultured and a very good friend. I congratulate them. 100% recommended.Written 6 September 2024
- deegleb0 contributionsAdventure Kokoda: Kokoda Airstrip to Owers Corner in 8 daysI've just (2 weeks ago) completed the Kokoda Track with the most amazing bunch of people. 18 trekkers in all, 2 guides, plus personal porters totalling 20 and all the amazing crew behind the scenes who fed us well, set up our tents and kept us moving. Adventure Kokoda really excelled at logistical management, quality equipment and support staff (guides, porters, welcome staff - everyone!). Our two guides, Peta in the lead and Brody as 2IC were amazing. Especially as they've both only done the trek themselves a few times. And whilst Peta has no military training or background, her research and sharing of quite a few accounts along the trek, really brought it alive and gave us more than a few moments of pause as we considered incredible acts of bravery and sacrifice. Over the course of the 8 days we walked in the footsteps of giants. Giants of men who at the time had no idea of the future they were forging for the rest of us. ANZAC Day will have a new meaning for me now. I’ve stood in the exact spot where young men sacrificed their lives so that others could preserve theirs. do know that at some stage I will do the trek again – from Owers Corner back to Kokoda and I will absolutely choose Adventure Kokoda when I do. I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to take this journey with some incredible people and I feel that I’ve been on somewhat of a pilgrimage, rather than just a bloody hard slog of a trek. These memories are forever forged and I have a much deeper understanding and appreciation for those who embodied the principles of Courage, Mateship, Sacrifice and Endurance back in 1942. Thank you to Adventure Kokoda and especially to Peta, Brody and the rest of the crew. And finally to my little mate Guyford, who kept me upright more than a few times and was my shadow when I needed it the most. Quite simply, this has been the trip of a lifetime.Written 5 September 2024

- nikitasL3679OQ0 contributionsUnforgettable 8 daysWe completed Adventure Kokoda’s 8 day trek led by Peter Morrison in August 2024. It was an amazing experience, that challenged us both physically and mentally. Peter was the absolute best.. he demonstrated his passion and respect for the history of the trail everyday, and went above and beyond in numerous ways. The local people, being the group and personal carriers, were a major highlight for us. Highly, highly recommend! Our only issue with the tour, was how we were treated on day 1, prior to leaving for the airport, by one of the Adventure Kokoda staff, Donald (who we were later informed is actually one of the senior staff members in the organisation). We were told we had 3 hours to pack and get organised (as we were on the 2nd flight of the day), however, about 20 minutes later we were told we were departing in 10 minutes. A few minutes later, as we were rushing around, packing our bags as quickly as possible, we had Donald at our hotel room door shouting at us, quite aggressively. We understand circumstances change quickly in PNG, however, Donald would do well to remember who the customer is. This experience left quite a sour taste in our mouths. Overall we had a great experience. The people, the beautiful scenery and the rich history will be something we will remember forever.Written 3 September 2024
- K6750QNtims0 contributionsAmazing experienceHiking the Kokoda Track was such an amazing experience. I would highly recommend Adventure Kokoda, from Tracie who was super helpful with the booking and all the pre-trek organization, to Peter our passionate guide and all the local PNG staff and trekking crew who looked after us so incredibly well. The trek itself was very physically and mentally challenging, with steep, slippery technical terrain and long days. Learning the military history of the track, first-hand, was very emotional. Peter did a superb job of relating all the stories of the Kokoda campaign as we walked through the various battle sites along the trail. His knowledge of the battles and key individuals involved is very impressive. He has a deep passion for and pride in what the soldiers managed to achieve in the Kokoda campaign against overwhelming odds and is equally determined to ensure what they did for Australia is not forgotten. Peter maintained a great rapport with the trekking group and also the support crew and many villagers we met along the way. The trek was brilliantly supported by a large crew of local PNG staff, including senior organizers, carriers, camp organizers, kitchen staff, etc. Our interaction with them was a highlight of the trip. Their physical (and singing!) prowess was so impressive. The moo-moo (apologies spelling there?) on the last night, where the crew cooked up some fresh chickens and sang for us, was one of the highlights of the trip. I engaged a carrier during the trip, which I found incredibly helpful, both in terms of sharing the load and also support down the technical descents. But a number of our team didn't engage carriers - total respect! Would highly recommend this trip with Adventure Kokoda. It is very tough but also so rewarding.Written 1 September 2024
- GlennM1620 contributionsKokoda Track done well.I had the honour of trekking with 19 fellow Australians and an Irishman. The trek was lead by Peta and Brody. Two words best describe their leadership of the trek. Passionate and compassion. They were passionate about the challenge, the history and the people of PNG. They were compassionate when dealing with us trekkers, the people of the nation we employed and encountered and most of all to the memory of Australian servicemen and women that fought on the trek. These two individuals should be commended for these attributes and their leadership, well done. Adventure Kokoda ran a well organised trek, that provided flexibility to individuals. They were well organised and can recommend them to future travellers. Glenn Mackenzie. Duty First.Written 28 August 2024
- markkR2899SI0 contributionsAn Amazing Experience10 of us went to do the Kokoda Trek and we were very well led and looked after by Adventure Kokoda for the entire trip. The actual trek itself is an amazing experience in and of itself, one that has to be experienced to be believed but there is a big logisitical exercise behind the scenes which Adventure Kokoda handled very professionally. Tracie, Donald and their team do a fantastic job and we always felt like they were 2 steps ahead of us in terms of planning etc. Our trek leader Angelo was very knowledgeable on the historical aspects of the trek and provided great insights for the entire 8 days. You could sense his passion for Kokoda and what it means to Australians and it was great to have him guide us. All in all, I couldn't recommend Adventure Kokoda more highly and wouldn't hesitate to use them again.Written 18 August 2024
- cherylv6260 contributionsKokoda, my bucket list adventure.I found our team leader Kerry Symes very knowledgeable on the Kokoda Trek. He knew all the significant battle sites and about the many battles that were fought. I learned so much about Kokoda from Kerry and the way he presented it with passion and emotion made it a stunning experience. The dawn service at Isurava Memorial was a highlight of the trek. Kerry involved us all in one of the most emotional experiences of my life. I realised throughout the trek if it wasn't for these brave diggers we might not have enjoyed our lives in the way that we have. I would also like to congratulate Kerry and all the Adventure Kokoda crew for their professionalism and care. I would recommend anyone wishing a Kokoda experience to go no further than your company Adventure Kokoda. Regards Andy TeniWritten 2 July 2024
- S4536FZjoeld0 contributionsKokoda 2024From the time of the first briefing, Jesse was upfront, honest and lead with confidence and compassion. We experienced a raft of emotions as we trekked, recounted the history and battled our own shortcomings. I would recommend training harder than you think, and to leave yourself a treat at the half-way drop (like TimTams). The trek is a worthy adversary - it's a powerful and moving experience and if it weren't so hard then perhaps it wouldn't have meant so much.Written 30 June 2024
- 353shaynem0 contributionsAdventure Kokoda - Military history at its bestWhat a great experience this trek was! Adventure Kokoda's efforts here to keep things rolling were first rate especially considering the drama early on that was out of their control! Peter's knowledge and enthusiasm on the military history of this campaign must be second to none. The genuine emotion he got into the soldier's stories and the poetry recited was moving. The carriers were well looked after and this showed in their efforts hauling gear and looking after us trekkers. I have a much greater understanding of the battles that took place here and thank Peter for passing on his knowledge. Tough but very rewarding trek.Written 26 June 2024
- richardr2400 contributionsAdventure Kokoda what an experience. Passionate, Genuine, Relatable and Knowledgeable are a few words to describe them. What an amazing experience, Its hard to put into words but i feel I had three amazing experiences. The 1st being the war time history experience which was everything I was hoping for The 2nd being the cultural experience with the native PNG peoples and the 3rd being the physicality of the trek and the feeling of accomplishment on completion. Peter our Trek leader was brilliant, his passion and knowledge regarding WW11 and all aspects of the trek were amazing. His stories and ability to relate with me and other trekers made the experience even better than id originally hoped forWritten 25 June 2024

They look after the carriers and the local villages we passed through. The whole experience was conducted with safety, respect and professionalism. The food was ace and our guide’s knowledge (Peter Morrison) about the battles and wartime tactics along the trail added deep insight and understanding to the trek. If you are going to take on Kokoda, do yourself a favour and choose Adventure Kokoda…then train hard and enjoy.Written 24 June 2024
- 634michelleu0 contributionsWell organised and passionateSo glad I went with Adventure Kokoda. The charter plane to Kokoda had some troubles on day 1. Some other groups had no alternative other than to wait until the next day when the plane was fixed, and then trek the distance in 1 less day. Adventure Kokoda had the capacity and initiative to reverse the trek direction, organising 24 porters, a bus and campsite bookings within an hour.Guide Peter Morrison knew all the detail of the history of the trail, and clearly felt passionately about the WW2 campaign. Well organised, capacity to deal with the unexpected and the knowledge and passion to make the most of your time in PNG, definitely recommend Adventure KOKODA.Written 23 June 2024

I completed the 10 day Kokoda trek with Adventure Kokoda. Pete Morrison was our trek leader for the journey. He did a great job of explaining each important milestone of the campaign the diggers went through. He provided in depth historic information, personal recounts and recited heart wrenching poems all by heart. His passion and knowledge of the Kokoda campaign shone throughout and would always allow time after to reflect on the information he shared with our group.
Donald and Tracie behind the scenes ensured we were well prepared and up to date of what we needed to do. Communicating with us from the moment we booked till we were back on Australian soil. Experts in their field.
The local PNG porters and carriers were worth their weight in gold. True masters of their environment. I was unsure if I should get a personal porter but glad I did. Not only did Sam help carry some weight, but he helped me down some of the most challenging terrain like very slippery clay slopes or large step ups on steep inclines.
The food throughout the trek was great, more than we could eat. It gave us exactly what we needed breakfast, lunch and dinner to get through the long days of hiking. And provided with a smile from our Head Cook - Freddie (THANK YOU- WELCOME).
Adventure Kokoda and Pete care about their porters and carriers. We saw this throughout the trip that their wellbeing is looked after. They are provided sleeping bags and mats. They also have a max carrying limit to ensure they can keep working for the company well into the future. We saw the contrast of this with other trekking companies was carriers clearly being overloaded and without their own sleeping equipment. Adventure Kokoda seems to pay the carriers well for their work and felt good to support a family for assisting me on my journey.
Overall the journey was one I will remember forever and cannot speak highly enough of the experience Pete and Adventure Kokoda provided.

I had the privilege of trekking the Kokoda track with Peter Morrison and Adventure Kokoda. The track itself is a brutal physical and mental challenge, yet amazingly rewarding and a great pilgrimage to honour those who fought for us 80 years ago.
Pete was a phenomenal trek leader and I doubt I would have have had the experience I did without him. His ability to answer historical questions, paint pictures through story telling, and recite poetry was nothing short of incredible. Pete didn't try to force a particular group dynamic, and instead let us form a tight knit bond naturally. His care for the boys as well should be commended; you can tell he really cares about their well being. I would also like to thank him for redefining the word "undulating" for me...
The group and personal porters were incredible as well. Whilst a bit shy at first, once you make the effort to get to know them, they open up and show their incredible characters. The comedic timing on our frontman is something of legend now, and all of they boys were quick to help with anything they thought you needed.
The administration from Adventure Kokoda was excellent. The level of information provided was numerous, and questions were answered in detail. The way they look after their staff and porters (paying higher than required wages and restricting pack weights) is a testament to how much AK actually cares about the people they employ.
I would highly recommend Adventure Kokoda and Peter Morrison to anyone looking to complete the Kokoda track. You will not get the same value for money with any other trekking company, and you will make memories that last a lifetime.

The trip with Adventure Kokoda exceeded my expectations. Apart from the obvious military history I was blown away by the natural beauty of the trek. Montane high rainforest, butterflies galore, birds high in the canopy (that we couldn't always see but could hear) and even a most beautiful python. I did the trek end August 2022 with Scott Babington as the trek leader. Scott did a fabulous job of relating the military history and his 3D "mud maps" brought the war to life. Adventure Kokoda does a tremendous amount of work to ensure their porters are well cared for and giving back to the local community which was a key reason to select them. Compared to some other groups we saw on the trek I consider Adventure Kokoda would give the best rounded experience, and seeing things that not every trekking company would take the time or have the knowledge to show you. If this is going to be your only trip to PNG then you are best going with one of the premier companies such as Adventure Kokoda and paying that little bit extra. I am a 56 year old female and was the only female in the group, carried my own pack with no porter and had an absolute ball. My best advice would be to make sure you do the training. I had no issues whatsoever and as a result loved every minute. Choosing Adventure Kokoda enhanced my experience and they foster a true sense of camaraderie amongst the trekking team.

I had a wonderful experience walking the Kokoda Trail with Adventure Kokoda. On so many levels it was a trip of a life time, not least of which was the physical challenge of negotiating significant mountain ascents and descents that required careful preparation over a number of months; there was the actual beauty of the countryside we traversed with panoramic views and the sublimity of the moss forests; then of course there was the privilege of visiting key places in our military history that reinforced the ANZAC tradition.
I thought the whole venture was extremely well organised by Adventure Kokoda from pre-trail information and advice, our reception, our stop overs in Port Moresby, to the day to day administration of campsites and sustenance, and porterage support, which all contributed to our successful negotiation of the Trail.
I would particularly highlight the work done by the PNG support staff who were irrepressible and committed to our safety and well being. The administration throughout was second to none. The support staff made everything appear very smooth at key intersections in the event. Rowan Tracey, our tour leader, provided a light hand on the tiller to ensure we were always able to reach our objectives for each day and along the way providing in depth accounts of the fighting that had occurred at key locations along the trail eighty years ago. And a special thanks to my porter Joel Norman who was with me every step of the way.

This trek was something that I have planned for 3 years and I didn't disappoint me. While it was physically tough and days 2 and 3 were very demanding, my appreciation of what our Diggers and porters went through in 1942 is very, very high. Despite being damp most of the time, I never let it affect my mental toughness. Our leaders were knowledgeable, especially Fiona, who organized all the tasks around camp and was a tower of strength. Reg's knowledge of the campaign is amazing. The service at Isurava battlefield was emotional, especially when the porters sang their native songs and the PNG National Anthem. It was great that Reg and Fiona organized each of us to read a poem or verse at the different memorials. What I saw of other trekking companies' performance on the trail left me in no doubt that Adventure Kokoda is the company to do the trail with.

Adventure Kokoda was always going to be my choice after 10 plus years of research, they always came out on top. And they didn't disappoint! Peter Morrison and his 2IC Peta Bull were fantastic leaders and Peter's professionalism and knowledge of the Kokoda track and Kokoda campaign was extraordinary. He was able to provide so much information at each point along the trail and tied it all in so it all made perfect sense. His passion shone through and it wasn't just a job for him. The emotions that he stirred with his information and story telling was one of the highlights of this trip. I will never ever forget this trip and would highly recommend, in fact, highly suggest, that when trekking Kokoda there is only one company to do it with - Adventure Kokoda! Absolutely life changing and such a privilege to have been able to experience this with such a passionate trek group.

As a Veteran, I can honestly say I was honoured to walk in the footsteps of the warriors that went before me. Adventure Kokoda provided the experience that walking such a track deserves. Our Trek Leader Peter Morrison was genuinely invested in the experience, and he knows the history like the back of his hand. He could recite poems straight from the heart, and you could tell the passion he has for the history of Kokoda. He will also tell you what you want to hear to make you feel better :), (CDC). Adventure Kokoda provided all the information around what to take, which was a huge help. Donald, Tracie and the team were accommodating to the needs of each individual trekker. The company sets the standard for ensuring that the "fuzzy Wuzzy angels" are looked after. They show genuine care for them, paying them what they are worth and more. They are seen to also contribute funds to the local villages so that the campsites are well maintained. If you're looking for a walking holiday, DON'T chose Kokoda. It's a journey that requires you to train and be mentally strong everyday of your experience. The Aventure Kokoda team go above and beyond to ensure you take in as much as you can along the trail and ensure you have a tent ready for your arrival. The porters are the way to go as it provides Adventure Kokoda the opportunity to employee locals from all along the track trail. They are right behind you when you need them and always looking out for you. Don't be scared to get to know all the locals that are trekking with you, as they are great people, and your trip can be made a whole lot better if you build the relationships along the way. Our group killed it and made sure we all were entertained if we were having a bad day. Couldn't fault anything about the trip if I tried. 100% Adventure Kokoda is the way to go. JW

A terrific but exhausting trek through the PNG jungle following the old wartime trek. Adventure Kokoda certainly made the experience both memorable and emotional. Our trek leader, Rowan, was a font knowledge on the Kokoda campaign helped bring history to life. The administration was faultless and all Adventure Kokoda staff were a pleasure to deal with. The local support were equally supportive and went beyond to ensure we had an experience to remember. I have now trekked with Adventure Kokoda twice and have absolute confidence in recommending them to anyone looking to tackle what will be an adventure of a lifetime.

There are no words to express my deepest gratitude and thanks to Adventure Kokoda company (Tracie) , Brian (porter) and Dave ( trek leader) for the most exceptional experience. I honestly had the best 50th Birthday and that was truly because of Tracie, Adventure Kokoda and the awesome AK team and a wonderful bunch of randoms. I don't think my experience would have been so valuable if I went with another company or had another Trek leader. How Dave Sherry entwines historical facts and poems in the trek is absolutely phenomenal, honestly magic at its best. Dave does such justice for all those war veterans who returned and those who never returned. As a single female traveler you want a company who is experienced and whom have established connections in PNG, treats their porters and local communities well and makes you feel safe. Adventure Kokoda delivers that and so much more. With so many companies offering trek experiences in Kokoda, it can be confusing to select but you will not be disappointed and you would be investing in your own well being ( physically and emotionally) by doing the Kokoda Trek with this company.

This was the best adventure I have ever undertaken, and that was in no small part to Adventure Kokoda and our Trek Leader Scott Babington. Adventure Kokoda takes it's responsibility of taking care of the local porters while supporting the local economy and providing opportunities through external training very seriously and their ethics should be commended. And what can I say about our Trek Leader Scott, his military knowledge and deep understanding of the Kokoda campaign was second to none, he far exceeded expectations and went above and beyond, helping me put the jigsaw pieces together of a relative that was KIA on the trail, he researched late into the night and he was able to figure out (with a good degree of certainty) in what battle and the circumstances that lead up to that battle. I will be forever grateful for this. If you are wanting to do this epic trek, just book it, but then put the training/work in, anyone can complete this but you need to be trek fit to enjoy it and get the most out of it. There are no trails in Aust that can compare to Kokoda, but you can find some to prepare you. Choosing Adventure Kokoda as the company you go with will ensure you extract the best out of this (often) once in a lifetime experience, don't settle for anything less.
Shout out to my fellow trekkers too, you guys made the experience all the better too!
