About
Our Kokoda History Treks follow the footsteps of the brave as they fought one of the most desperate series of battles across the Owen Stanley Ranges from Kokoda to the doorstep of Port Moresby at Imita Ridge. The route follows the original wartime trail. Our Kokoda History treks cover all the major battle sites at Imita Ridge, Ioribaiwa Ridge, Brigade Hill, Templeton's Crossing, Eora Creek, Isurava, Deniki and Kokoda where you will receive detailed historical presentations. The trek includes a solemn Dawn Service involving trekkers and our PNG guides and carriers at the Isurava Memorial. This service is regarded as the highlight of the Kokoda trek experience.

A meaningful trek with the fabulous David Sherry as Trek Leader. It's a physical and mental challenge and along the way David shares the war history along the trail. It's poignant that this campaign was instrumental in stopping the Japanese advance to the Australian mainland and yet the scale of the heroism is known by few in Australia. I would recommend the Adventure Kokoda tour to all Australians. I've taken my sons and I know it has left an indelible memory of what it means to be Australian.

Hardest thing I’ve ever done. 100% Recommend
Such a rewarding experience. We were always in good hands and Adventure Kokoda have been doing this long enough now to have the process sorted. We knew months in advance what we needed to do to prepare and what equipment we needed to have. Our guide and PNG porters were exceptional. No matter how exhausting the walk we took time to learn about the villagers life and culture. Most importantly was the war history we were taught from our guide Peter and for us to honour our soldiers as we walked kept us going. Beautiful creek crossings and scenery along the way. Dawn service at memorial at Isuava was moving.

It was the most amazing experience. I have changed so much , made so many create memories and so many great friends that will stay with me forever! The history, culture and views were incredible! It has helped me gain so much understanding and respect for our fallen soldiers, and I will continue to make them proud.

Physically, mentally and emotionally life altering. A must for all Australians
Everyone from the trek leaders to the support staff were incredibly. Trek leaders Dave sherry and Jake Leske are outstanding. Not only did they support us in the physical aspect of the track but also the mental and emotional. The experience they create by immersing you into the history and sacrifice of those before us is is truly life changing and is something that will be remembered forever .A must for all Australians and in my opinion Adventure Kokoda would be the only organisation to share that experience with . I cannot thank each and every individual associated enough they truly are amazing

Adventure Kokoda what an amazing experience.
No words can describe this amazing experience. Dave's knowledge of the history of the kokoda trail and his poems immersed us into the hardships the diggers faced. Jake's ongoing encouragement at low points was exactly what was needed to power on and get there. Dave and Jake never gave up on me when the going got tough and that truly made the difference between giving up and getting on with it. The porters were completely respectful and encouraging. The work these men do for us was amazing and as a woman i never felt uncomfortable in the presence of the porters and guides. They truly are angels watching over our shoulders catching us before we fall. My porter truly did spoil me with making sure i had water at all times and making sure i didnt need for anything. The guides and porters were always good for a laugh or just a chat about their culture. Highly reccomend Adventure Kokoda from the moment of booking Tracie was a wealth of knowledge and always had time to answer questions. Getting off the plane in PNG being met with friendly smiles of the adventure kokoda staff truly made for a relaxed and easy transition to the hotel. The food along the track was plentiful and we were never left hungry. If I was ever to trek Kokoda again I would 100% go with Adventure Kokoda again. The extra day to explore plane wrecks was something I've not seen any other company offer and made for an amazing extra experience.

Adventure Kokoda 10 Day premium Kokoda Trek led by Captain Reg Yates.
I recently trekked the Kokoda trail with Adventure Kokoda led by Reg Yates from 24/6 to the 5/7. The whole trip was magnificent, the scenery unbelievable and the whole trip was so rewarding. The Trek Kokoda staff in Port Moresby were outstanding. The carriers and support staff were brilliant. (Tents already set up for when we got in each night, all meals prepared for us and helped us every step of the way) Trek leader Reg had a great understanding of the local customs and smoothed the way for us as well as an in-depth knowledge of the Kokoda campaign. Would highly recommend this company. Glenn Ferguson

      Highlights, Hopes, & Kit Tips
Extremely useful: Seal Skins socks (likely would have contracted foot fungi without them), trekking poles (likely would have blown my previously injured knee without them), and a breathable shirt (likely would have suffered from prickly heat without it). Would I recommend it? Bloody oath. Should you train? Would you run a marathon without training? Highlights: Charlie Lynn's on-track commentary, Craig Moffatt's leadership and military knowledge, the setting of Bomana War Cemetery (not so much the service...too much about post nominals, not enough about fallen diggers), and Isurava war memorial (eerily moving). My hopes: Australia and Papua New Guinea's bond (at the highest level between the nations, and at the lowest level between people) continues to strengthen through shared military history, that PNG is granted a team in the Australian NRL, that my Porter Laula remains healthy and happy, and Charlie Lynn is successful in his endeavour to elevate the Kokoda Trail in its quality and status as a tourism destination, despite the odds.

Beautiful and hard hike with excellent support from Adventure Kokoda.
The Kokoda track features a strenuous hike in beautiful rainforest and immerses you in deep World War II history. I did the 8 day trek with Adventure Kokoda, and was very happy with the logistics, organization, support, and the attention to detail. Besides the well organized trip, on a personal level I had some special circumstances that Adventure Kokoda helped with. They were kind enough to apply the deposit of my wife’s trip to my fees as she could not join. They arranged a Port Moresby tour showing highlights of the city, since I had arrived a day early, they helped with selecting and packing my gear, getting the tea tree oil and antifungal creams which turned out to be essential for the trip. Adventure Kokoda has operated this adventure hike for a very long time, and are a well-established company with very good staff, and I highly recommend you consider going with them if you’re choosing to enjoy this adventure.

If you are considering trekking Kokoda, look no further than Adventure Kokoda
From the outset, Adventure Kokoda were fantastic. Tracie (manager) was amazing, with detailed preparation checklists, swiftly answering questions, and even arranging Adventure Kokoda polo-shirts so we were recognised on arrival in PNG. We were fortunate to have Charlie and Craig as guides leading the trek - both are truly inspiring. Charlie was a ‘walking encyclopedia’ of historical knowledge, bringing the war-time experience to life, and the events that the Australian Diggers endured more than 81 years ago. Craig shared his amazing military experience, from the morning reveille to evening briefings, leading the trek group from the front. Adventure Kokoda care about their porters and carriers. I saw firsthand they were provided quality equipment, a maximum carrying limit, and treated as part of the ‘family’. Adventure Kokoda has a genuine interest in supporting local villages and encouraging relationship building on our shared history. Charlie (and many of the trekkers) brought educational and medical supplies to the local villages. They in turn thanked us with beautiful songs. It was humbling and heart-warming to hear. Trekking Kokoda is physically and mentally challenging, incredibly rewarding, and a great pilgrimage to those who fought for us. Adventure Kokoda’s professionalism, from arrival in PNG, throughout the trek, to the moving Anzac Day ceremony at the Bomana War Cemetery, was exceptional. Thanks to all the team at Adventure Kokoda for this fantastic experience.

Bucket list experience with the best company on the trail!
Words will never quite describe this experience. We did a lot of research prior to booking, particularly regarding which company to go with. We found Adventure Kokoda to have the most genuine interest in supporting PNG locals and encouraging relationship building on our shared history. From the outset, they were fantastic to deal with. We received responses within 24 hours to any query we had, including over weekends. We had the pleasure of completing the trek with Charlie and Craig - it was an amazing experience and they supported us the entire way. The level of detail and storytelling regarding the war history along the Kokoda Trail was very significant. The PNG locals who supported our trip were amazing, and it was very apparent that they were well looked after by Adventure Kokoda. Charlie was passionate about seeing the money make it’s way directly to the villages, which was really wonderful to see. We were well looked after throughout the entire experience. I felt safe and supported at all times. Such a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone - don’t go with any other tour company! Thanks to all the team at Adventure Kokoda for this amazing experience.

      Tough and awe inspiring journey..
What an experience! I was so glad to have done some research and decided on using Adventure Kokoda for the 10 day trek with Charlie and Craig. They did not disappoint. We (my Son and I) started this trek with complete strangers and ended it with a heap of newfound friends, who shared both the physical and mental day to day challenges together. Everyone supported each other and got us through some tough grinds both up and down… “all you need to do is lunges” my mate who had done it 10 years before kept telling me… I didn’t and he was right!!!! The ups’s just kept going to the clouds it seemed and the downs were very slippery and technical but one step in front of the other and you will make it to the end. Charlie was an inspiration and the stories he told kept us entertained (both Happy and Sad) on the Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice that our Diggers made in that beautiful Tropical quagmire more than 81 years ago. Craig kept us thoroughly entertained and informed during the day and night had some great stories to tell of his service. If you are thinking of getting yourself a Personal Carrier/ Porter, do it, as you will find it will be the best thing you have ever invested in! They were worth their weight in gold, both assisting tired old legs to get one more step higher and jelly knees just one more step down amongst the miriad of tree roots and slippery slippery clay mud and catching you when your bum is about the hit the deck for the umpteenth time!! Isurava Dawn Service was very moving and one of the highlights of our trip. Another few things that is a must to take is trekking poles x 2 ( you will thank me later) and get hold of some Seal Skinz waterproof socks… both worth their weight too.. Overall a fantastic experience and though very challenging in parts, when the going got tough everyone supported each other to get over that next false crest or down that slippery slope. The PNG jungle and Ranges are breathtakingly beautiful as are the well kept villages with super friendly people. The bananas, pineapple, passion fruit and paw paw are next level… It was an honour and a privilege to be with Charlie on his 101st ( and possibly last trek??). What an amazing man whose vision and persistence created the opportunity to open up the Kokoda Trail for thousands of Aussies to then complete a pilgrimage that we will all be forever grateful to honour and remember those brave and courageous men of the 39th Militia Battalion and 2/14th, 2/16th, 2/27th and 2/53rd Battalions and all those who fought, died and survived this ‘Bloody Track’ against enormous odds and should never be forgotten. We should also never forget the bravery, strength and determination of those ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels’ who saved so many diggers lives carrying them back to safety when wounded and also bringing up ammo and supplies in conditions that can only be described as ‘mind boggling’.. Lest We Forget..

      Kokoda lifetime adventure
An extraordinary adventure well managed from my first contact with the company right through until the end. Very professional. The Kokoda Track is difficult and we were provided with training tips and all the information to be ready well in advance to give sufficient time to train.. On the track we were led by Major Scott Babington, who's passion and knowledge of the Kokoda track history and battles was unbelievable. I had read the books and while they describe what happened, Scott provided the why and how and it felt like we travelled with the battalions along the way, understanding what our diggers did, and also the Papuan people and their vital role. The countryside is beautiful, the walking tough and be prepared to be wet. River crossings, walking through swamp and climbing up and down steep terrain through the most pristine mountain ranges. On arrival at camp the tents were set up and meals generally ready, don't expect hot water, but collapsing in a stream at the end of the day was great. There were inevitable delays both in travel and on the track, all just taken in stride and alternative plans made. A delay to a flight to Kokoda from Pt Moresby, no problem, jump in a mini bus and we will show you some of Pt Moresby. We saw other trekkers along the track, and I believe that Adventure Kokoda offers the best option, the Papuan porters enjoy working for this company, and Adventure Kokoda are respected at every village. My advice if you choose to do this, follow the tips given, train hard , be prepared and travel with Adventure Kokoda. Thank you to Scott, Tracie and the entire Adventure Kokoda team.

Without doubt one of the greatest experiences of my life. A truly humbling, life-affirming, physical, spiritual and emotional quest that will stay with me for all my days.
Adventure Kokoda are the top of the field in this rare space and that is really apparent when you’re out there on the track. Every carrier, chef, trek leader and logistics person is passionate, kind, inspiring and professional.
Peter Morrison is the consummate leader; kind, warm, thoughtful, sincere, yet confident, inspiring and thought-provoking.
Still waters run very deep in PNG: no matter how gruelling you find the physical and mental challenge, a tour with Adventure Kokoda is one of the greatest gifts you’ll ever give yourself.

We completed the Kokoda trail with trek leader Jake Leske and 2IC Brody Murray from 03/10/23 - 12/10/23. It was a fantastic adventure. Learned heaps about the battle history of Kokoda and would highly recommend the trek with Adventure Kokoda to anybody that is thinking about doing it. The porters are absolutely amazing and are with you every step of the journey. Good was good and the views are awesome. Do yourself a favour and book this trip of a lifetime!

Excellent trip, everything went very smoothly. Dave Sherry was a great trek leader, very informative on the history and empathetic (indeed waxing poetic) on the diggers' experience and also an excellent, wise and kind leader of our group. AK take very good care of the local porters, checking they were not overloaded and anxious as to their arrangements in camp. The food is camping food but well prepared and hygiene etc was excellent. It was very nice to have someone else pitch and strike the tents ever day after a long time walking. I travelled with my 16 years old and he was made very welcome and supported as well. Kokoda can be pretty intimidating before hand and I feel we made a really good choice of company.

Without a doubt an experience to be remembered, physically demanding, and emotionally challenging. The support crew and trek leaders were excellent, our carriers were quietly "ever-present", always ready to help, catch before you hit the ground, and willing to let you into their lives in the quiet moments on the track.

If you're wanting a challenge that will have you contemplating the history of WW11, the sacrifice, and extraordinary human feats in terrain that is truly remarkable this trek is the one.

Hardest thing I’ve done but i did with an incredible guide (Peter Morrison) and learnt so much about our Kokoda history. I also did it with the coolest support team - under ethical conditions and pay. It was an incredible cultural experience and adventure. We had a great trekking experience with the crew moving ahead to set up camp and prepare dinner - a very welcome site at the end of a long day. Couldn’t recommend Adventure Kokoda more! Thank you for a great time.

My name is Jenaya Scheidler, I'm 17 years old and I'm from Campbelltown, Sydney. I walked the track from 19th of september until the 28th, so all up 9 days. I went with 4 teachers and 5 students including myself, it was my first time over seas, and to go and follow the footsteps of our brave men was an honourable, unforgettable and rare experience. I wasn't too sure of what i was in for, i dont think anyone is until they are half way through the challenge. Do plenty of training. I done 8 months and it was still a struggle.
One of the physically and mentally hardest things i think ill ever have to do. The terrain is so rigid, an unexpectable, some hills are probably an 80 degree angle, walking down them was the toughest. I dont know how our boys ever done it.
2 days into the walk (from Kokoda to Owens corner) I was already starting to miss home, i wanted to go back to my normal life and questioned my self why i signed up to this! I was drained and knowing i had all these days ahead of me i felt like it was going to go on forever. I always reminded my self that a day wont last forever, and i knew it was mind over matter, one foot in front of the other. Despite the hard work, i would love to go back & everyday i think of what a crazy moment in my life that was and how i would love to relive those memories.
I trekked with Adventure Kokoda, i highly recommend you trek with them. My trek leader is named Peter Morrison, he was funny, down to earth, understanding & he gave you motivation and reassurance, he often lied about how far to the top of the mountain was (unfair) lol, he was passionate about the war history and gave us an understanding of what went down in 1942. Brigade Hill was one of the eye opening points for me, as we sat on the peak of the mountain tired and sore, over looking all the other mountains we had walked the past few days then seeing the 52 walking sticks stabbed into the ground behind you marking each unknown soldiers remains, i got chills and i got teary eyed, i then realised that i had it so much easier then the diggers and it gave me the motivation i needed. There was plenty of heart touching moments on the trail. So many moments where you were happy, you would have a laugh with your group & carriers and knowing you were out of touch with reality was quite awesome, not even knowing the time was cool. The people you trek with also hold a place in your heart and you form a friendship so strong and unique.
The Carriers were so caring and made you feel safe which was one of my biggest concerns due to the black cat track attact weeks before.
Our tents were dismantled every morning as we ate our brekky, and they were already up and ready for us when we got to camp, the boys would even have your wet clothes hung out, with dinner on the way. The camp sites were beautiful, Hoi, (the first or last site depending on what way you go) was breathtaking, it was so pretty and peaceful, almost like a fantasy garden. I just wish my camera was working so i could have my own personal collection of photos. :(
Every morning at 4.30 or even earlier you'd already be looking forward to a swim in the river and a relax session by the fire after 10 hours of walking in the smothering heat or the cold rain, depending what mountain you were on, and how high or low you were. You never knew what the day was going to bring you.
I found that its the little things that i didn't appreciate in life as i do now, a warm shower, an ice cold drink, lighting, tv, your favourite meal, a comfy bed, a car trip or anything that could move you somewhere with out really putting much effort in haha. When you're thrown into such unknown territory, with unknown people and a new way of life, its a slap in the face, and you realised there is so much to be learned.
At the end of the trip, when we had crossed the finish line i couldn't help but look over the Owen Stanley range and tear up with happiness, the feeling that comes over you is seriously unexplainable, its a feeling of relief, proudness, and happiness, with a bit of sadness, a succesful feeling, an overwhelming feeling, like i said, unexplainable. My legacy lives on for our diggers and my respect is higher than any mountain on the track. I want to teach people about Kokoda because many have no clue what it is and to be honest it upsets me, our country was so close to invasion and half of us never acknowledge it nor give the appreciation they deserve.

Thank you Charlie Lynn the man of Adventure Kokoda and the kind people of Papua New Guniea. You have given me something no one could ever take away from me. An amazing personal experience that taught me things i never knew about my self. Endurance & courage is all it takes and its all i need to get me by.

It's been a few months now since I did my trek (August 2015) and I still get shivers about my journey along the Kokoda Trail. I still talk about my time as though I did it yesterday and enjoy sharing it with anyone and everyone who asks! One thing that I insist on talking about is how amazing Adventure Kokoda was throughout the whole process.

It is such an empowering experience that I will never forget! There is no doubt in my mind that Adventure Kokoda is definitely the company to Trek with because they prepare you for everything that you are to expect and they expect of you along the way. From lists of what to take, what they supply, what training you should be doing, everything you could think of was thought of - you never felt abandoned and you could always ask a question!
This is a very experienced company and one that clearly looks after the porters and you.

The group leader (Dave Sherry) was fabulous with his outstanding knowledge of the history and the stories that he had to share. We were taken to WW2 sites and able to explore the surroundings. Wherever we went we always had the helpful guide of the "Boys" by our side to ensure our safety and enjoyment of the experience. Everyone in my group had a special connection with the Boys and it trek all the more enjoyable because it felt like you were trekking with friends.

I love my food, and one thing I was hesitant about was the type of food we may be getting on the Trail, but luckily we had Frank! And gee did he make good wholesome food! Yes you built up an appetite, and yes you could be hungry for anything but Frank's food was delicious! It was that good I had the reputation of going back for seconds!

No one can sugar coat how exhausting the Trail is, and no one can explain to you how hard it will be until you have done it for yourself. But even though you do huff and puff your way up and down the "hills" and "meander" your way along the Trail you can still appreciate the beautiful landscape and appreciate the endurance of the diggers. Our leader Dave ensured that we forever remembered those who had fallen and served for our country and if we were having a tough day, they would have had it tougher.

I am forever grateful for Adventure Kokoda's guidance along this journey and can't recommend them enough for their experience!

My son and I have just returned from the most memorable experience of our lives. I did a huge amount of research before deciding on Adventure Kokoda and I have to say I definitely made the right decision. This is a very professional organisation. Their attention to detail is superb. From the time we made the booking to our return home we were always well informed and really looked after. They also do incredible work in supporting the people of PNG. Reg Yates our Trek Guide was exceptional. His historical & local knowledge was amazing. The trek is a real challenge & something you must prepare for. It is a hard slog but so rewarding. Our porters and the entire support crew were fantastic. We enjoyed good meals and we thoroughly enjoyed the company of our fellow trekkers.
Thanks Reg,Charlie,Tracie and everyone at Adventure Kokoda. We will be talking about this adventure for years to come.
