Stop At: Mina de Sal de Nemocon, Calle 2 No. 0-05 Parque de la Sal, Nemocon 251030 Colombia

The salt mine of Nemocón is the second largest salt mine in Colombia located just a few kilometers outside of Bogotá. Take the chance of knowing this amazing engineering masterpiece that quickly has become one of the most interesting touristic sites. The salt mine of Nemocón has a rich, scientific, historical and cultural background. In this tour, you will also have the opportunity of walking around the beautiful colonial village of Zipaquirá.

This mine has over 500 years of history in its marvelous 1,600 meters of tunnels and chambers where spectacular brine mirrors and lighting effects will mesmerize you. This mine functioned between 1816 and 1968, where about 8 million tons of salt were extracted. Then, 38 years after closing, it reopened as a tourist attraction.

Lastly, you will go to Zipaquirá, a beautiful colonial village about 20 minutes away from Nemocón. You will walk through the main square, where you will learn more about its history and architecture. Then, you will have time to taste delicious baked goods of the region and stop at the local handicraft market to get unique souvenirs.
