Strongly recommend if you are a mountain biker, this was one of the best day of our Bolivian trip! Oh, almost forgot, the food was DELICIOUS and there was plenty of snackssss. - Outdoorpartner0 contributionsDownhill from high mountains to Amazon jungle animal sanctuaryThis ride was the most fun activity of my 16 days in Bolivia. Although I mountain bike single track at home, I was apprehensive that this ride was going to be really bumpy and my arms/shoulders/neck were going to take a beating. I’m happy to say that the bikes supplies have enough suspension travel that a sore upper body was not a problem. The morning breakfast at the coffee shop was delicious- including egg and fruit. I was paired up with one other rider. I almost had a private ride! The safety equipment was really good and the jacket and pants supplied kept you warm. Everything fit well. Remy was my cheerful guide. I can’t believe he’s been doing this ride for 12 years and is still so enthusiastic. The van was always close by, which was great because I kept shedding layers of clothing. Remy stopped for photo ops, history, views, to warn us of sharp curves, etc. There were plenty of stops. We saw other groups of riders, but it was easy to pass them. It was so interesting to see the high altitude landscape gradually turn into jungle complete with banana trees and giant ferns. I was so sad when we reached the end. I wanted more riding! To my knowledge, Gravity is the only company who ends in the animal sanctuary. It costs an extra 80 B to get the full animal sanctuary tour. There were lots of animals and birds including 3 Andean bears and (I believe) 5 jaguars. I was so impressed by the sanctuary that I plan to donate money when I get home. The drive back to LaPaz from the end was 3 hours. So it was almost a 12 hour day. But definitely one of the most memorable days of my life. I would love to try one of Gravity’s other single track tours if I ever come back to Bolivia!Written 20 September 2023
- normajeanr640 contributionsFabulous company!!!Gravity Tours is the BEST!!! Noel Marco and all who guided the day we went were incredible!! Helpful, thorough, and at all times our safety was of mist importance!! The weather was extremely blustery with sliding on the road up and traffic that had. Not dealt with snow but Gravity took they’re time and made the best decisions for our safety mostly upon return with the unknown weather at the end of our ride. Thanks guys for a HELL of a good ride!!! The bikes, gear, shirts breakfast lunch all was a grand time!! Loved it!! Thanks team!! NormaJean and EricWritten 8 May 2023

- MerlH40 contributionsAmazing downhill tourThe tour was very well organized. Pick-up worked perfectly, all guides were very friendly and competent and the gear and bikes were in very good condition. They instructed us well, made sure to make strategic stops along the way to re-check the bikes, inform us on the road ahead and check everyone is instructed. They provided everything we needed. Can definitely recommend, Noel, Marco, Kenneth as well as the driver Israel all did a great job!Written 20 February 2022
- D2942DKbradw0 contributionsReally cool and unique way to ride!I did the Scree ride with Noel as my guide. Had an amazing time. If you're not familiar with scree, it's basically the loose gravel/shale/sediment you sometimes find at the top of a mountain (I'm no geologist, so take that with a grain of salt). It's a very different feel from single track or trail riding. Think of it as similar to skiing or snowboarding without a trail: you know your destination, and you pick your way of getting there, freestyle. When we went, it just so happened to be snowing at the top of the mountain. This created the added challenge of riding on snow as well as scree. I didn't regret it at all. Such a unique feel and experience. Kind of a mix of riding, power sliding, with the occasional technical or jumpy bits if you choose. No worries if you fall...it's much more forgiving than a single track, as everything is nice and loose. Noel (my guide) and Gustavo (the driver) were great. Super accommodating, did a great job explaining everything (perfect English if you need it), and were really able to recognize my ability level. That meant we were able to push it to my limit and give me a challenge, while not taking it too far. We did multiple runs down the mountain, taking unique paths each time so each time it was a new adventure. The views were amazing! Starting from the top at about 4800 meters (almost 16k feet) above sea level, it felt and looked like we were actually in a cloud. Taking runs from the snow-capped mountain into the little valleys and river beds, you could see all kinds of vegetation pop up. Then at the end, we took a dirt road and old mining trail back down towards the city of La Paz, passing by a beautiful reservoir that was nestled between the mountain peaks. Definitely recommend you give Scree a try, especially if you are used to riding on trails or more technical single track; it's a great way to mix it up. My advice: it is very high up above sea level. So if you are not used to riding at altitude, give yourself a little time beforehand to acclimate, and stay hydrated! Have fun, be open minded, and be ready to slide!Written 25 September 2020
- Heather_Kingston0 contributionsDeath road 64km ride. Wonderful sceneryLots of good prep before the ride. Felt safe as we were briefed on what to expect before each section and where the dangers were and previous sad accidents. The ride itself was not that dangerous unless you got over confident and lost concentration. Bikes are proper downhill bikes with excellent brakes and suspension. I was pleasantly surprised that after 4 hours I had no aches and pains. Would 100% recommend Gravity for a safe and enjoyable ride. Also recommend the animal sanctuary which is included.Written 4 February 2020
- Ilaria M0 contributionsSafe and funny!I am not a very expert cyclist but I really enjoyed the experience of descending the Death Road by downhill bike with Gravity. Our guides Noel and Abel were great and nice, and the most important they were very careful about safety so they made our experience safe and funny!Written 29 January 2020
- Kevinq10 contributionsDeath roadDefinitely recommend gravity for death road , the main reason we booked with them is they have the best and safest bikes available, our guide Gary was awesome,he made sure everyone in our group was comfortable on their bikes and stopped on numerous occasions to let us know what’s coming up so people like me don’t get too over confident and crash , DONT use the cheaper companies, you’ll regret itWritten 23 January 2020
- stereomikeh0 contributionsExtreme Cycling and Extremely FunSuch an amazing day with Gravity, cycling the Death Road outside of La Paz. If you get the chance, do it, you won’t regret it. Gravity truly has the best bikes, gear and team. Thanks to Willy for driving us there safe and sound, how he could see the road in the fog I don’t know. Our guides were awesome. Marco kept the back markers safe and kept the group together. Our lead guide Garry was brilliant all day. Sharing lots of local knowledge about La Paz and the Death Road. His positive attitude, ensured that everyone participated and got involved. It was interesting and saddening to hear of some of the lost on the road, but helped to sharpen our sense to what lay ahead and keep us safe. It was an early start with a 6:30am pick up in town. Then we took the mini bus ride (about 1hr 30) to the starting point, with a quick coffee stop along the way. The start of the trail is a tarred road, allowing you to get used to the bikes, Kona Stinky full suspension, very capable. A quick coffee stop along the way near to the checkpoint. We started the official Death Road approx 11am. From there the day went quickly. We had a 30 minute lunch stop with sandwiches and snacks provided after a couple of hours. It had rained recently so the trail was a bit more demanding than usual. Just don’t look down! I won’t spoil the surprises but it was fantastic, breathtaking scenery and sheer cliffs. Finishing at the animal sanctuary was great, hot food and showers were very welcome. We had a great group of people on our tour which kept spirits high and were a good laugh. Gravity was the first to carve out the Death Road tour, if you want the best bikes, gear, safety and organisation, go with Gravity. Worth every penny.Written 8 January 2020

The Death Road tour is a must in La Paz. It's so much fun! I am glad I chose Gravity to do it among all the options you pass by in downtown La Paz and in the internet. The itinerary was perfect, starting with a nice breakfast while our guide Noel gave us instructions about how the tour would happen. Then we got on a van that carried us (we were a group of five that day) along with the bikes up to the starting point. They provided us with all the necessary gear including mandatory helmets and gloves, and optional pads. Also, we got to use jackets and overpants, which saved us from getting our clodes muddy! They also provide you with camera mounts if you request it.
For the first part we went down an asphalt road, always with one guide in the front and one in the back of the group. If anyone was not so confident and wanted to lag behind, they would support us, same as for confident riders up front. Always looking for our safety and giving instructions to prevent accidents. This was good to get used to the bikes and the gear, which were all top class.
Then we got back on the van (the bikes were carried on top) and finally started the Death Road downhill. The road itself is a little bit rocky and winding but nothing too hard even for people who don't usually mountain bike. It is so much fun! The view is amazing and the guides take a lot of pictures and provide us with information along the way.
In the end we reached a river where you can take pictures with a nice Death Road sign, and then we had lunch in an animal sanctuary where we could optionally go on a small tour and see a lot of animals including bears and jaguars! This is a Gravity exclusive, so you will not get it on other tour providers. Also, we got a nice "I survived the death road" tshirt as a souvenir. :)
A huge shout out to Noel and Omar, our biking guides, and also to Don Guille, our driver. You guys were amazing!

We loved this tour! Gus and the team were amazing, they made sure everyone was having a good time, catered to different abilities of the group with ease, all while ensuring everyone felt super safe. They also took amazing photos and provided us access to the animal refuge - highly recommend doing the big cats tour while you’re there. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to ride Death Road!

A lifetime experience that I doubt I'll ever forget. "Damian" demonstrates a rare skill in being such a superb guide. During an unexpected thunderstorm, he obviously had a plan in place to entertain our group while we took refuge in a stopover shelter. Safety was obviously a priority stressed while having a fun, humorous, and adventurous day. A few minutes into the riding and the group really turns into a family (actually, it started with the breakfast at Cafe del Mundo). Damian, and two others coordinate the entire experience par excellence.

On multiple communications they told me the tour ends between 7pm and 9pm. Based on this I booked a 9pm overnight bus that evening. The day before I double checked with them that they can have us back at 9pm, and they said this was very unlikely and the tour usually finishes between 9 and 10pm. They then asked me where I saw that the tour ends between 7 and 9pm despite the fact that this information came directly from them, multiple times. They then suggested I have to personally fork out for a 3 hour taxi ride back to La Paz to make it back at 9pm!
Unfortunately that night I also fell ill with altitude sickness and wasn't able to go the next day, and they had zero flexibility for me to reschedule (except for another exorbitant fee). They therefore kept all our money without needing to provide any service.
Lastly, the person I was dealing with via WhatsApp was rude and not pleasant to deal with. This company is also the most expensive of the lot. You would be much better off with one of the other tour operators and save yourself some cash and frustration.

Gravity Bike Tours is by far the best (and safest) operator on Death Road. My 26 yr old son & I went together. Both of us are experienced Mtn bikers, and we were lucky that all 13 people on our group were as well!! It was the highlight of our Bolivian trip!! Marcello & Luis explained every segment carefully before we rode, letting us know which side to ride on, what to look out for and any potential surprises. They were very safety conscious, and made it crazy fun as well. Definitely wear their full helmet and coat/pants as I It gets pretty mucky on the way down. It’s a full day tour, and the ride back up via the new road takes 3.5 hours. Oscar, our driver, managed the drive like a pro!! Not sure I would have been that calm and confident. If you’re going to ride the Death Road…book with Gravity!!

Top organized bike trip from La Paz to Death Road and back. The approximately 65 km long route through an impressively changing landscape was fun. The material and equipment fit and repair material/spare wheel was always ready. Track is good to master even with just a little bike experience. Above all, the guides Damian and Fredy vorzu kept us informed about the upcoming sections with a casual saying and took photos of us. Even the playlist in Oscar’s escort vehicle (super driver) was partially adapted to the participants. Even if the price is probably a bit above average - clear Recommendation - continue

Biking the Death Road with Chelo, Sdenka and Jhonny was a highlight of our trip to Bolivia. Chelo, Sdenka and Jhonny made sure we had a fun and safe experience patiently managing a group of riders ranging from very experienced to first time on a mountain bike. Before each section, Chelo gave instructions and riding tips. The guides were very supportive and encouraging. The views in the cloud forest were spectacular! The guide team was very organized with all of the necessary equipment, which was top notch. The guides take photos along the way and share them with the group so participants can just enjoy the ride. Everyone in our group completed the ride and had a blast!

Initially we were unsure whether to bike the death road at first because we knew it is a tour that many tourists do. In the end we decided to do it and were glad we did! Marcelo, Omar, and Jose were a great team and we learned a ton about the history of the road and the region (which we didn’t expect going in). With a total of five bikers in our group the tour was small and intimate which was nice. The bikes were very good quality and well maintained, and we always felt very safe. Ending at the animal rescue center was also a highlight.
Though this tour was more expensive than some other companies, we felt that it was worth it because of the quality of the bikes and the guiding, and also because Gravity is the only company that ends the tour at the animal rescue center. Would highly recommend!

10/10 recommend going with Gravity! It was excellently organized, Noel and Ruben have been our guides, it was a small group of just 4 people. They gave us good safety instructions (which other groups clearly did not get …) , spoke excellent English, and took plenty of pictures and videos all day so we did not feel the urge of taking photos while circling down the death road … it included breakfast, snacks, and lunch at the final stop which is the animal rescue center. For an optional additional fee you could visit the rescue center to see bears and wild cats (puma, jaguar, etc). At the final stop you could also take showers where they had shampoo and towels prepared, for free. It was really an excellently organized tour, and will always recommend Gravity if any of my friends ask me which company to choose.

We had an exceptional day with Kenny, our tour guide. I was especially impressed by the commitment to safety - we were given all the safety gear and explained at key points where to go. The bikes were the best out of all the tours - good suspension and we also found out they sell their old bikes to some of the other tour companies.
Although they are a bit more pricey than some of the other tours we felt it was worth it for the quality of bikes and safety guidance. The breakfast was also a lot better than many of the other tours.

I ride a little moto everywhere I go and will touch up my bicycle skills before coming. So hears my big question going downhill no problem but up hill ( don’t know) so if I find out I’ve bit off more than I can chew will there be a out are and I stuck??????? Work with me this is a bucket list thing

We went on a tour with Gravity Mountainbiking and they bought us back in a bus on the new road rather than travel back up Death Road.
Written 8 February 2020
Do you travel back on the same road?
If so is that safe?
Written 17 January 2020
It is a one-way almost entirely downhill ride, and then you ride back to La Paz in the bus. Yes, it is safe. The Road is plenty wide. Depending upon your outfitter, you will likely have dinner and you can shower at wildlife refuge at the end. Don’t hesitate! Do this! I was 61 and my son was 30. Best day ever!

I’m looking to book death road with you on Friday 25th October. Would it be possible for my girlfriend to ride in the van?
Cheers,

It wasn't a problem for me to ride in the van. I didn't feel well enough in the early morning to ride so I stayed in the van for an hour before getting on my bike. The van stops on the road whenever the bikers take a break However, You'll have to check with the company to see about paying for the tour.
Have fun!
