    Istanbul Food Tour
We had a wonderful experience with our tour guide Muhammad on the Small Group Food Tour. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Istanbul, took us to excellent eateries in both Karaköy and Kadıköy, and had a great sense of humor that made my wife and me quickly feel welcomed and enthusiastic about the experience. We would definitely recommend Muhammad as a tour guide and Free Istanbul Tours in general for the experiences it offers.

    Quality time - highly recommend!
We had booked a free walking tour with Yunus Emre through the same operator and after being very happy with the tour decided to book a food tour. We really had a lovely time, our guide Ozge was really knowledgeable and friendly, we got to try really great food from places we would not have found ourselves and got to have a glimpse of Turkish lifestyle during that afternoon. We were delighted, thank you again!

Excellent way to learn about the citizens of Turkiye
My wife and I took the Alternative Walking Tour / Parts Unknown at 2.30 pm and it was terrific. We have taken multiple walking tours and this was one of the best. The tour was really about the culture and lifestyle of everyday Turks and it was lead by a local tour guide. We visited a number of different places but the locations were less important than the narrative and personal stories of the guide. My wife and I had been traveling around Turkiye for the last 3 weeks and had many questions about customs and traditions of the country. All our questions were answered here. I have already recommended this tour to others. I also love the website of this company and the quick email respond to my reservation. I also liked that the walking tour ended right on time which is not easy to do but was appreciated.

Operator so good, we booked 3 tours
We initially booked the Walking Tour and Food Tour. After the Walking Tour, we were so impressed, and enjoyed ourselves so much, that we decided to go on the Alternative Walking Tour. While the Main Walking Tour covers the famous sites, and delivers an excellent crash-course in Istanbul's long, long history, the Alternative Tour is an insight into all else: culture, politics, every day life. It was also nice to explore some quieter, local parts of the city. The Food Tour was also excellent, and definitely come hungry. For us, what makes an excellent tour different from one that's simply "good" is, of course, the Tour Guide. You will definitely be blessed if you are able to have Cumali in the lead. He was our Tour Guide for all of the tours! His passion for his job, professionalism, and his extensive knowledge of history made these some of the best tours we've ever done. If you go on one of these tours, I'm sure you'll hear that you actually have to study to be a licensed Tour Guide in Turkey. It's a four-year degree. And honestly, the quality is noticeable. Book a tour with these guys. You won't regret it!

Authentic Istanbul walk with cultural Highlights
We booked a free walking Tour through guruwalk with the request to pay a tip at the end of the tour. Cumali was excellent. He is a professionell tour guide. He gave alot of background Information about the history of the City. The presentation was very engaging. The Information about the great basar was also intersting. Please, be aware that there is no time to go shopping in the basar during the tour. You will need to go back on your own. I would recommend the tour to everybody who is new to Istanbul and is able to walk about 3 to 5 km.

Exceelent Tour - Great Insight Into The Old Town.
My wife and I were in Istanbul for 2 days in May on a cruise ship and pre booked this Old Town walking tour on line before we arrived. Communication was great and the meeting location was easy to find. Jammara was our guide and he was very good. We were a group of 20, and Jammara walked us around for 2 hours 40 minutes and the tour was fabulous. We saw many sites, including inside the Blue Mosque as there was no queue when we walked past it, an unexpected bonus. At the end of the tour, he invited to us all to an authentic Turkish lunch at a restaurant he knew, which had fabulous views over Istanbul. It was actually great way to see the main sites of Istanbul and get a great feel for the place. Highly recommend.

Excellent introduction to the Old Town
I went on the free (400 TRY suggested) Old Town Tour. It was a great tour of key tourist landmarks! Excellent value - I really appreciated the approach to pricing, and that I could join a group - makes it more accessible to solo people on a budget. Our group was around 10 to 15 people, and it was still easy to hear and follow the guide, with lots of opportunities to ask questions. Our guide had tons of history and culture info, and used a bit of humour to keep things light and fun. There was a balance between talking time and giving some time for photos. I stayed after the tour to join for a meal and was glad I did - tasty food and great view (can accommodate vegan meze if you ask about eggs and dairy). I plan to sign up for their "Free" Alternative Tour as well. Highly recommended!

Great orientation to the old city
Booked a free tour of Istanbul old city for our first morning to give us a detailed orientation for three hours. Our guide Alper was very knowledgeable being a local himself and guided us around all of the various sites. Free tours are of course not really free as a tip is expected at the end so effectively you decide how much it is worth and to Alper’s credit he was superb and worth every lira you can spare.

    Free tour of alternative Istanbul
Very interesting tour. After visiting all the main attractions, I wanted to know a bit about modern life in Turkiye. We spent over 2.5 hours with Semih, I learnt a lot about the country and people's lives. It was very enlightening. When I travel to Istanbul next time, I will take another tour with that company.

    Great tour!
This was an excellent tour. The guide was knowledgeable and spoke English very well. He was happy to answer questions that went beyond the scope of the tour so it's an excellent way to start your exploration of this great city.

    Imran Made Our Tour Unforgettable
We had a fantastic experience exploring the city with Imran as our guide. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable about the history and landmarks of the area, but also provided us with helpful tips for navigating the city like a local. His sense of humor and engaging personality made the tour enjoyable from start to finish. We highly recommend booking a tour with Imran if you want to truly immerse yourself in the culture and charm of this city.

A window into modern Turkish life
We joined Yunus for his cultural walking tour and very much enjoyed it. We really liked that it was familiar and conversational and we learnt a lot about modern Turkish life with a little historical context. Yunus gave us what felt like a balanced view of Turkey and was really happy to give us a window into his life! Highly recommended!

The guide Yunus was very knowledgeable and friendly, ready to answer any questions. We got to explore the mai attractions of the old Istanbul and unlike other free tours, we were allocated time for photos.
We also got some tips regarding the local prices, which places are better to buy what and tips about how to spend our next day (when it was lockdown).
Big thank you Free Istanbul Tours.
PS: guys.. don't forget to tip the guide! It's free but there is a lot of effort put into it and i consider it's just fair to reward the hard work.

We took the Free Walking Tour with Yunus as our guide. It started on time at 11:00 in the morning and lasted about 2 and 1/2 hours. He was so engaging that we could have listened to him share insights and helpful tips all afternoon. We have taken over 100 Free Walking tours around the world and this makes our top 10! Two days later we took the Cultural Walking Tour that starts at 2:45. It was good, too. We had a different guide named Apo, who was also very knowledgeable. There was some overlap in the stories, but a slightly different itinerary that included a stop in the Grand Baazar and The Spice Market. Both are worthwhile. All for the price of a tip (be generous, they are good!)

I always enjoy free walking tours whenever I am traveling, even more than paid ones! I had the pleasure of being on the Historical tour with Yunus in Istanbul and it was incredible!! The 2.5 hours flew by and I had such an amazing time. He was knowledgeable, funny and very charismatic. He showed us around the most landmarks in the city while giving background stories of how they came to be and their impact on todays world. Yunus also gave us tips on getting around Istanbul, local shops and food places! I would highly recommend doing this tour the first day you arrive so that you have lots of good recommendations from a local!! Thank you again Yunus! :)

Really enjoyed this walking tour! It was a great introduction to the city and I would recommend anyone to do this on their first full day exploring Istanbul. Salih was a great guide - very informative and had a great sense of humour. It was clear that he knows his stuff, and he answered every question with a smile. We enjoyed his tour so much, we came back for the alternative one the next day! We ended up on windy back streets with local markets, going up hidden stairs to a mosque on a roof. It felt like we had visited some secret places that only locals know! On top of that, Salih was full of invaluable information about practical traveller tips like which ATM's to use, how to dress in the mosques and how to use the public transport. I will definitely be recommending this tour to anyone I know going to Istanbul!

I recommend the tour, it was very good, friendly knowledgeable, honest answers to all questions but the tour ended at the guides wife tea shop. We went back and got ripped off buying tea. Price charged was 5 times what was first quoted. There was no pressure to buy and it was partly my mistake for not being more careful with basic maths and money. Live and learn to be more careful

We love doing these walking tours on our first day in a new city and this one did not disappoint. We saw the highlights of Sultanahmet including Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the grand bazar and got a great feel for the city. For its price point of a suggested 10 euro per person, this tour was both comprehensive and incredible engaging. Would highly recommend!

Our tour guide Yunes was extremely knowledgeable and made our stay in Istanbul much easier than it would've otherwise been, as he provided us with lots of recommendations throughout the tour on top of local history of the country and city. He also gave us practical info like which bank is best to take money out. Overall a great activity to do on your first day in Istanbul to get local insights and get your bearings and well worth a tip of 10 + euros! Really excellent value for everything you get. Thank you Yunes!

It was very nice and interesting tour. I have experienced free walking tour in different cities and I would say in Istanbul was the one the best one. Even though weather wasn’t the best we still enjoyed it. Our guide Yunus has a rich experience and gave us information about Turkish history in interesting way, we didn’t get bored at all. For me was important that person didn’t just gave you a lot of chaotic information, that after tour you don’t remember anything, here I really like that on each stop it was basic and structured information and after you wanna get more information you just ask and getting more details ( as for the person who is not so much familiar with local culture it was very big plus and very thank you for this to our guide Yunus)
Highly recommend to take part in this tour .)

We loved this tour. The guide was knowledgeable, entertaining and highly skilled at navigating the crowds and the queues. Yunus saw an opportunity to get into Hagia Sofia at the best time with minimal queueing, which we would not have realised for ourselves. Highly recommended for any first time visitor to Istanbul. Carry water, this trip includes detail and distance!
