          An Immersive Experience!
We had such a wonderful time with our student guide, Charlie, who was so kind and friendly. He took us to Train Street and managed to score us some amazing seats so we could enjoy some refreshments right as the train passed by. He originally had Hoa Lo prison on our itinerary, which we’d already been to that morning, so he easily adjusted the plan and took us to the Ho Chi Minh museum, which was incredibly educational and informative. All throughout our tour he provided fun facts about Vietnamese history and culture and we really felt like we were able to engage in true cultural immersion and exchange. This is a great organization encouraging students to practice their English with visiting tourists and without a doubt enhanced our experience in this country and our appreciation for its rich history and culture. Thank you, Charlie!

          Hidden places
The night before the tour, the guides contacted me to confirm our hotel’s location and time. I was also asked if I had anything in particular in mind to visit. I just told them I wanted to go to the original egg coffee shop, hidden alleyways and places they love in Hanoi. They fulfilled all my expectations and more. We went to places we couldn’t have possibly found, introduced us to local dishes we most probably wouldn’t have tried and told us stories about Hanoi I had no idea about. Anna and Henry were not only knowledgeable about the city, but were an absolute delightful company as well. Lovely tour, lovely young people, highly recommended experience. Thank you

          A tour like no other
The tour was fantastic and unique. We were met by a wonderful guide, Anna. She was exceptionally knowledgeable and made the atmosphere very comfortable and friendly. Lam was a student who tagged along and she was very helpful in understanding a little more about Vietnamese culture. Anna was able to pack our itinerary with fun sightseeing alongside the stories of Vietnamese history. Both fun fables and historical events/accounts. Would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get a feel of the city.

Perfect tour with fantastic tour guide Nam.
On our very first morning in Vietnam we were warmly greeted by our tour guide Nam at our hotel after being in touch by WhatsApp. Nam was absolutely fantastic, extremely fluent in English, friendly and knowledgeable. He taught us to cross the roads which has helped us everywhere, ordered and cooked a fish stir fry at a street cafe, introduced us to the founder cafe for egg coffee and green tea ice cream which we were surprised to enjoy. The tour covered most of our Hanoi agenda; Train St, Old Quarter, French area, Govt area and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. We are so thankful to Nam for a wonderful introduction to Vietnam.

          Excellent tailor made tours
I was so impressed that after sending an email request on a Sunday the organisation found someone willing and able to take me out the following day. Lily is a lovely, third year university student, who is very fluent in English. She is very knowledgeable about local history and excellent in putting information across. Apart from gaining insight into temples and turtles, I thoroughly enjoyed just sitting with her, with a juice and a view of the lake, talking about everything and anything together. She really looked after me well and was happy to go with the flow and let me choose what I fancied doing. Thank you.

          Food tour with Daisy
Our guide Cuc (Daisy) was absolutely phenomenal! She was accommodating - we had to change our meeting place and time a few hours before and that was no problem. She was punctual and extremely friendly. She had excellent English as well. She taught us about local food and we ate at awesome places. Ask for Daisy if you take this tour. You won’t be disappointed! She is the best!!!

I booked this trip and paid some nominal fees. I didn’t know it was a free volunteer based tour and the guide doesn’t get paid.

My guide was Orange TG19613. She was knowledgeable about the Vietnam history. She has genuine interest on sharing her knowledge of her country -Vietnam’s culture and history. She was very kind to customized the tour based on my interest. She was very patient and she didn’t not rush. She is a great asset to the tour.

I highly recommend a tour with Orange (her guide Id TG19613) and make sure to tip generously as they are not paid tour guide.
You can directly from hanoifreeprivatetourguide, so you don’t pay booking fee, rather pay tip to guide as token of appreciations.

        I highly recommend it!

The Free Tour was an incredible opportunity to learn more about Hanoi, especially since it was my sister and I’s first time visiting the city! Our student guide, Thai (Thomas), was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, which made the experience memorable. He shared many personal anecdotes and humor throughout the tour, and it was easy to ask questions and learn more about each landmark. We were able to explore multiple popular tourist attractions, including trying the famous egg coffee, visiting the Ngoc Son Temple, St. Joseph cathedral, Hao Lo prison, and train street (among a few other stops). Thomas knew the city very well and made sure we were safe navigating the roads with all the traffic. As part of the Free Tour, we were recommended to help pay for the student tour guide if there were any tickets or food involved, which was not a big deal. Thomas was able to get a student discount, and having a tour guide provide historical context was 100% worth it! Additionally, Thomas went above and beyond by sending a list of restaurant recommendations to us after our tour ended. His recommendations were really good and many locals also ate there. Although tipping was not required, forgetting to tip Thomas at the end of our tour was one of our biggest regrets, as he totally deserved it! Considering he was a local student, his English was very comprehensible and the tour felt comparable to a five star paid tour. Regardless, we had a fantastic time and would highly recommend a Free Tour to other tourists visiting the area. If you happen to get Thomas as your tour guide, you are in for a great experience. :)

The walking tour was the perfect start to our Vietnam trip. The guides were very flexible and let us choose what we wanted to do. We started the day by going to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and gardens as well as the Ho Chi Minh Museum, where one of the guides gave us a very detailed history of Ho Chi Minh’s life history (she works some days at the museum). After that, they took us out for lunch at a local fish noodle spot, which was delicious. We stopped for some coconut coffee and salt coffee, and then headed toward Temple of Literature & National University, which is a beautiful 1000 year old university. Many graduating students were there taking pictures and we explored the temples on the university grounds. Our last leg of the walking tour was the Train Street, where the guides helped us order food and get seats before the 3:15 train.

The experience was amazing, and it was so helpful having the guides explain different aspects of Vietnamese culture and history to us, especially at the museum and when we were getting lunch. They let us decide what we wanted to do and were very personable and accommodating. They not only acted as guides but also talked with us about Vietnamese society and asked us questions about how things differ in America from Vietnam. It was lovely to talk with them as we walked the streets and the experience really made us feel more comfortable in Hanoi. We would 100% recommend that anyone coming to Hanoi do a walking tour with these guides for a friendly, informative, and deeply enriching experience.

We organised a “ Private Walking Tour of Hanoi City”, with Anna the company coordinator. Anna was amazing - even tho’ there was no guide available for the day we wanted - Anna worked tirelessly to help find a guide. Thankyou Anna for your effort 🙏

We had an amazing day out with our guide - who was also called Anna (Hoa) Anna ensured the day was seamless and full of memorable moments.

One highlight was enjoying coffee at Train Street while watching the freight train pass by—it was such a unique experience!

We also explored the vibrant wholesale market and visited Hoa Lo Prison, which was both fascinating and thought-provoking.

Anna’s knowledge and her friendly approach made the tour truly special. We would highly recommend this … it is genuinely a free tour - but entrance fees, food, transport and tip should be covered by you.

We met Chien at our hotel . Communication was easy via WhatsApp.
Chien works as a history teacher and had great knowledge and insight into all aspects of life and culture in Hanoi.
Our tour lasted close to 5 hours and could have been extended further if we wanted.
It was good that the pace and itinerary of the tour was under our control.
Chien was informative and his English was easy to understand.
We felt we got great insight into historical and modern culture in Hanoi.
        Would highly recommend.
The tour is inexpensive but it is up to the customer on how they want to recognise the experience provided.

This is a free tour (you pay 5 dollars for the booking and they give you them back if you don’t want to donate them) around the city of Hanoi, you can customize it to your liking and needs. We had two wonderful guides, Gracie and Quynh. They came pick us up at our hotel and at the end of the tour brought us back. Spending the afternoon together felt like hanging out with friends, we were so curious about the city and the vietnamese culture in general and they too were of ours. They were also super knowledgeble about the places we visited and gave us great raccomandations. Overall I highly raccomand this tour not only for exploring the city but also for diving into the culture and make new friends!

This was withoutf doubt an exceptional walking tour provided by our very special guide, Quynh. My husband and I spent four hours visiting Hoa Lo Prison, the Temple of Literature and a local coffee shop. Quynh also shared a few other local gems with us along the route. She was highly knowledgeable, articulate, polite, attentive to our needs and far better than any audio guide that we could have purchased. We would highly recommend this tour for a highly personalised introduction to Hanoi’s history and its culture

My partner and I had the pleasure of taking a private tour of Hanoi with Nguyen (Jay), a wonderful student who volunteered her time to show us around. From the start, Jay was incredibly thoughtful, reaching out to ask about our interests so she could tailor the tour to our preferences.

We explored a mix of cultural and historical sites, including the two major lakes, several beautiful temples, Hoa Lo Prison Museum, Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, and the Presidential Palace. Nguyen’s knowledge of the history and culture was impressive, and she provided fascinating insights throughout the day.

What really made the tour special was Nguyen's attention to detail. After learning about our love for local cuisine, she took us to try some amazing snacks and dinner—easily some of the best food we had during our time in Vietnam!

This tour offered an incredible glimpse into the vibrant city of Hanoi, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. I highly recommend this private, informative, and customizable tour for anyone looking to learn more about Hanoi, its rich history, and the local culture. It's also a wonderful way to connect with local students who are eager to exchange cultural experiences and practice their English skills!

Thank you, Nguyen, for an unforgettable experience!

Annie looked after me during my private tour. The company confirmed details on booking such as checking I was ok to pay for entrance fees if applicable for my guide and myself and their service is free- which is totally understandable. Annie messaged me the night before asking if there were places I did want to see and then she tailored the tour for me. Annie was lovely company for the morning. 100% recommend- it’s so nice having a local with you and to also allow students to practice their English and build their confidence. You don’t have to tip but I did- Annie never asked- but her service and company was lovely and well worth it!
        Highly recommend.

We did a private walking tour with our guide Alice. We had booked the tour last minute for the afternoon and Alice was very flexible in meeting us at our desired location. Right from the beginning, we got a warm and friendly feeling from meeting her. She was as enthusiastic to chat with us as we were with her. We did a tour of the national history museums and she did an excellent job of matching our level of interest in learning about the history of Vietnam. When she didn't know the answer to our questions, she would take the effort to research it and share her findings. Her love for Vietnam's history and culture was easy for us to see. We had gone into the tour with the hopes of just learning some fun facts about the history of Vietnam, but we came away with the experience of seeing Vietnamese history throught the lens of a local history aficionado. Although the guides are volunteers, Alice approached it with the same passion someone would apply to their full-time job. She even offered to take us on a follow-up tour after her day-job on Monday! We loved the flexibility of being able to create our own schedule and agenda based on our interests rather than going through a laundry list of sights to see. All in all, we were really happy with the experience and I would heartily recommend this tour to others.
