In the morning, you will be picked up in a private, air-conditioned luxury vehicle from Hanoi’s Old Quarter and will cross the Red River to historic Van Duc vegetable village, located a short 30 minute drive south-west of Hanoi. Your guide will take you on a walking tour of the village to a local farm, and along the way, introduce you to the culture of the area through key historic figures and landmarks, including fascinating temples. You’ll meet local farmers, who will showcase their farming and fishing activities, and you’ll be invited to join in! Catch fish, plant and harvest the fruits and vegetables that will be used in your cooking class. Next, visit the local wet market to shop for the remaining ingredients for your lunch. Bargain with the vendors and hear from your guide about the weird and wonderful fruits, vegetables, herbs and meats that are an essential part of Vietnamese cooking. Feel free to pick up a souvenir or two while you’re there! Then it’s on to your cooking class. Learn the secrets of how to make local delicacies such as tangy banana flower, green mango or papaya salads, Vietnam’s famous fresh or deep-fried spring rolls, fish simmered in a clay pot, stewed pork, braised eggplant and tofu, bun cha and stir-fried morning glory — a firm favorite with the locals and a dish that is always on the menu. Dessert is a fresh fruit platter and traditional sweet soup. All dishes have vegetarian options. You’ll depart Van Duc village by bicycle, and ride six (6) flat kilometres along the banks of the Red River, through lush jungle, farms and flower beds. Cycle through Xuan Quan flower village and its seasonal blooms, and Kim Lan pottery village, which has more than more than 1000 years of history and famous Bat Trang Ceramic village. Breathe in the fresh, aromatic air as you ride through lush rice paddies, working farms, typical rural architecture and through winding alleys. Don’t forget to snap a few shots of your ride through rural Vietnam to share with your friends and family! After a delightful afternoon cycling in the Vietnamese countryside, you will return to Hanoi in your private air-conditioned vehicle.
