About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 444pearlenes0 contributionsA well - organized tripThe Halong Bay One DayTour with ti Top Island was truly an unforgettable experience! We were picked up from our hotel in the Old Quarter and driven via the new highway. Boarding the boat, we set out to explore the breathtaking beauty of Halong Bay . The highlight was Ti Top Island, where we enjoyed panoramic views and a relaxing swim. This seamless, well-organized trip exceeded all expectationsWritten 3 December 2024
- mhslee20170 contributionsFour go to Sapa, North VietnamThe 4 of us took the overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai enroute to Sapa in the northern uplands of Vietnam. Tonkin Travel had organized for us to be met at the station by our delightful guide, Tinh. Over the next 4 days Tinh used her wide knowledge as a local to show us the beauty of the countryside covered with steeply contoured rice terraces dominated by mountain peaks. Also, as a H'mong tribes person, she was able to give us an insight to the lives of local people in an area that is becoming heavily commercialised If given the choice I would thoroughly recommend the ever-smiling Tinh as a guide.Written 3 December 2024

Sapa was beautiful and the trekking was an experience not to miss. The home stay was actually more a hostel but we did have our own room and bathroom. Unfortunately, the tour package was a terrible shambles. The sleeper bus that took us to sapa was dirty, we had to pack our own luggage under the bus, we weren’t greeted nor was any part of the journey explained. When we stopped in the middle of the night we weren’t told how long we would stop for nor did the driver make any attempt to count passengers before he left the stop so bad luck if anyone was left behind. There was no wifi on either bus (as advertised) and charging ports only on our return journey. The worst of it was arriving in sapa at 5am to a bunch of taxi drivers asking where we were going. There was no one from the tour group to meet us. We had no idea where to go or who to ring at that time in the morning. In desperation, we rang our previous hotel ‘La Siesta Classic’ on Hang Thung in Hanoi, who were just amazing as always (see separate review). At a coffee shop in Sapa we finally had wifi and were able to make contact our tour company Vietnam Travel Top. Com
A young tour operator then met us at the coffee shop and told us the tour guide would arrive at 8 am for our departure. There was no apology or explanation for our situation. The return from Sapa was also a shambles which had us walking through rain and mud in streets of Sapa to the bus stop to wait in the rain for each passenger to be checked on the bus. The driver never smiled or spoke to the passengers, once in either direction. When shown a broken seatbelt, the driver shrugged and walked away. It was actually difficult to stay on the bed without a working seatbelt as you slide off the vinyl going round corners. We were given one bottle of water over two days, we had to purchase all other water bottles- not as advertised. Over all, go to Sapa but avoid this tour company. We paid $266 for 2 people with one night home stay and return sleeper bus- too much for what we got. A local travel agent would have secured a better deal with a more reliable company.

Got picked up on time by minivan to be brought to the bus from Hanoi. Bus was fine, comfortable.
We arrived to Sapa and were sat down for lunch with people we were on the bus with, we ate lunch and then we’re split up into groups and never saw half the people again. We opted for home stay, we started our trek along the main road of Sapa which was nice for the most part but was more or less entirely downhill along the main road.
I thought there’d have been a bit more off the beaten track exploring but was ok.
We were told we were were stopping at 3 villages of the ethnic minorities but in reality we just walked past them.
At one village we had 15 or so minutes of locals begging for us to buy their merchandise so be aware of this is it’s something you’re uncomfortable with.
We arrived to the home stay which was nice and food there was lovely.
However the 2nd day was where it got very frustrating, the tour completely deviated from what the posted itinerary was (day 2 - 3hr intermediate trek through bamboo forest).
We were told there was a festival in the local village and we were going to go there instead. We weren’t given an option for this just told. There was thousands of people in this village trying to sell us stuff and the entire group was uncomfortable from the start so we requested to go back to the original itinerary but we’re told it was too late now.
Instead we done a mini walk back from the village to the homestay.
There was a lot of confusion throughout because some people were 3 days, 2 nights; some were 2 days, 1 night and we were never really fully clear what was happening.

All the 5 stars you may see on here are not genuine … the guide gets you to do the review it in front of them before you leave. The trek was good but tough in the heat despite us being young and fit. No water was supplied on the trip despite it saying it would be on the itinerary. No first aid / health and safety considerations while on the trip (bring your own stuff!). The homestay was pleasant, despite a lack of interaction with the family (luckily other members of the group were good company). Bring swimming trunks for day 2 if you’d like to swim at the waterfall, this was not mentioned to us before so we couldn’t swim without being wet for the rest of the trek :( The guide was friendly but did not explain much about the area / culture. We got followed for the whole of the first day by a tribe who at first appeared friendly but later discovered they were just trying to sell us things. Overall slightly disappointing considering the number of top reviews / cost but some great views during the trek nonetheless!

We had requested a pick up at our appartment, which went great. However, instead of going to Sapa, we were dropped off at the pick up point.
From there communication about the trip was nonexistent. We got our tickets in our hands, but nobody told us what to do. The busdriver only yelled at us, because apparently, we had to take our shoes off. The ride itself was fine; it was a sleeping bus so we could rest, but it didnt look all that clean and we weren't informed on the actual ride to Sapa. For example: The amount of stops during our 6+ hour trip to Sapa. Upon arrival we got dropped off, but nobody picked us up. I called the agency and they said to pick us up in 5 minutes, which never happened.
The busdriver who yelled at us before was very helpfull and helped us go to a pick up point so we could call our agent for pick up. We had some lunch, which was simple, but okay.
The hike was beautifull, but the road was very slippery, so we couldnt enjoy it as much. We requested to be dropped up earlier at the homestay and end the hiking, which was possible, but cost us extra. We rode down on a scooter which was actually a lot of fun. A bit scary, but exciting. Diner was also okay, but from there, it went downhill fast. I got foodpoisoning and threw up the whole night. At morning, I called the agency to see if we could go home earlier, since I felt so ill, but they weren't that helpfull and simply mentioned no earlier busses were possible due to it being Sunday. We had to pay our own cab which costs us 240 dollars extra, but we had no other possibility, since I got very sick.
Shout out to the owner of the homestay: she was very nice during this whole episode: she booked us a cab, got me medicine for the foodpoisoning and allowed us to check out later without additional fee.
I still give this tour two stars, because there were some helpfull people along the way, but the experience overall was terrible and we do not recommend it.

This was my last trip in Vietnam and boy was it worth it! I have heard that Sa Pa is too touristic and although the main city has is tailored a lot under tourists the hike through the valleys is a breathtaking experience!
I highly recommend doing this tour as part of your itinerary in Vietnam. The cost of thr tour includes meals, cottage or dorm accommodation, and hiking with a guide. All that for a cost of a on night stay in a hotel in Sa Pa! You really get your moneys worth with this trip.
Our guide Khu has been an amazing guide teaching us about the culture, local way of life, and making sure that everyone is safe whilst hiking. Great communication skills and friendly approach. Thank you for making this tour so enjoyable Khu!
Please do not skip this tour. You won't regret it.

Had a lovely experience. Got picked up by a very comfortable sleeper bus which made the early morning get up much more pleasurable. Very much enjoyed the hikes and the beautiful views even in the mist, exciting to get out of Hanoi and see some more of the North. All the food was delicious especially in the evening at the home stay where we had huge sharing platters which really hit the spot after the hiking. Comfortable cabins to sleep in too allowing for a lovely nights sleep. A highlight was swimming in the water full on the hike the second day, very refreshing. Would definitely recommend to all.

First of all our guide Zu was absolutely fantastic and really helped make our trip unforgettable.
The tour is very nice with a lot of walking in the rice fields and villages. The sights are mesmerizing.
As some have stated in previous comments the homestay is a bit more like a dorm than a traditional B&B but it is comfortable and the food was really excellent.
If you are visiting during rainy season, bring some good shoes or rain boots as good portions of the roads are muddy. There are locals there to help you but still, you shoes will get muddy.
Also worth noting that there can be a wild variation in the quality of the sleeper bus you get. The one we got for the way in to Sa Pa was very nice and comfortable with individual "closed" pods for each passenger. The one on the way back though was much much worse so might be good to ask considering it's roughly 6-7h in the bus to get there.

I recommend this 2 day tour if you are a good hiker, a 10km walk on the first day and a 6km on the second. The views were beautiful but I would suggest coming in summer so the visibility is even better. Our home stay was very fun and enjoyable to have the local food and meet lots of locals. Our tourguide Zizi was very friendly and interactive. She told us about the lives of the local people which was very interesting and educational.

Did the 2D/1N trip. Views were great, the hiking is enjoyable and a good fitness test! Would recommend bringing hiking trainers, especially if it’s been raining at all. The home stay does great food and our guide Izzy was great and informative. We also got lucky to have a fun group so had lots of sake and beers on the evening too.
Only negative would be that the locals who follow are too persistent with buying products from them. Think once we’ve bought something as a tip for supporting us, the trek should then be as a group.

We booked the Sapa 2d1n trip with the sleeper bus pickup in Hanoi. Khu was our guide and she was great, told us a lot about the local culture and really made the tour complete.
A van picked us up from our hotel to take us to the sleeper bus. The sleeper bus is an experience itself. It can be a bit noisy and you don’t have too much space, if you are a light sleeper, it will be very tiring.
Once we arrived in Sapa, we had breakfast at a hostel until our guide picked us up.
The scenery on the trek was amazing, you see the rice fields as well as local villages. The trek can be a bit challenging as you go through on dirt roads and there are quite a few steep parts, so definitely bring good shoes. If it rained it can be a bit slippery.

Hi, if I book a tour with the night bus option for example on the 23rd of November, is the pick up on the day of 23rd at 22h20 arriving on the 24th or is it on the 22nd at 22h20 which arrives in Sapa on the 23rd? And which date will we arrive back to Hanoi? Thank you

Hello, we are a family of 4 with 2 kids (6 & 7 yrs old) planning to visit Sapa in end of November. I found this package is interesting. But our preference is we want the trip from Sapa (Not from Hanoi) to nearby Sapa area where we can stay a local home stay. Do you have somewhat similar to what I'm looking for? Thanks in advance.

Hi! My husband and I are considering booking a 2 day 1 night tour with your company. At check out there are three option for departure: 1) Night Bus from Hanoi, 2) Bus from Hanoi (in the AM) and 3) bus from Sa Pa. The bungalow is only mentioned in the 3rd option (which we want), but we are departing from Hà Nội.
My questions are: 1) Do all options include a bungalow stay? and 2) If we were to choose the night bus option for departure on evening of 8/27 would we return on 8/29 or 8/28?
Thank you!
