The description of this tour was a little vague, so we went in with an open mind. We were picked up (a little frantically but it was ok) by a 20 person bus that ended up being full of all sorts of travelers. Our driver and guide (Tom) were very nice, kept the group together, and provided a wealth of history about the area we visited. However, we decided a group tour of that size is not for us and would have benefited from a smaller, more intimate and personalized tour.
Things we didn’t love; the ~2 hour drive each way to get to the sites, the cafeteria-style buffet lunch shared with multiple tour groups, the “tourist traps” that you are thrust into (with uncharacteristically pushy locals and pay-to-pee bathrooms), and the overall length of the tour (11 hours).
All that said, the natural beauty and local culture that we were able to see via bicycle and boat on this tour were worth it. We were sad that some of the aspects of the trip listed above detracted from the experience, but are generally happy with the tour.

The pick-up of all the guests and the drive to Ninh Binh takes quite some time but the bus was okay. First stop is a (very short) bike trip to a temple. The bikes were quite old and rusty. The lunch afterward was okay. Second stop was a boat trip in beautiful landscape. Our rower expected 50.000 tip which we thought was a bit much. Third stop was my personal highlight: climbing up 500 stairs to the lying dragon at Mua cave to enjoy a stunning view!
Our guide Quy was very friendly and gave interesting information about the sights an Vietnam in general.

What we discovered is that we really prefer not traveling with groups. The tour itself was decent, but if we had to do it over again, we probably would have just rented a motorcycle and hit these places alone so that we had more freedom. If you like the safety of groups and the ease of just being led around, this is probably a good way to go.
We would have preferred more freedom at the old capital and on the bike ride, for sure. The lunch was buffet style and just so-so. The hike up the mountain was great (although it was a holiday and the place was a zoo - no fault of the tour company). The river ride was great.
Our guide did a pretty good job of trying to keep us all together but we got strung out during the bike ride. My bike popped the chain off and I fell way behind. I never had someone come back and look for me. Maybe if I’d been gone longer?
We got back a little late, which was fine for us, but I think it was a bit problematic for at least one of the other couples. Just be aware that you could get back later than advertised, so don’t make any hard evening plans.
All in all, it was pretty ok.

What a lovely day with Sophie as our guide!. She was helpful, funny(all day!), full of knowledge and a great ambassador for her country. We went to a temple , rode bikes, had a trip along the river through the rice fields and karsts, and climbed 500 steps for what would have been a magnificent view had it not been cloudy and wet! Fabulous day with a fabulous, energetic guide.

Best part of this tour was our guide, Sophia. She brought a super fun and entertaining energy to the day. It made a big day fly buy and left us glad we had done it - give Sophia a raise!

Definitely the best part of our trip to Vietnam so far! Plenty of time at each visit and the tour guide was very friendly and engaging. Would highly recommend to anyone. Do expect to get sweaty as the climb at the end is a tough one!

It was simply an incredible day! The guide Ki (I don't know if I'm writing it correctly) and the driver are really nice and kind people. The explanations of the guide were always interesting and funny! The places they took us were amazing: the magnificent temple, the spectacular climbing to the mountain, the undescribably beautiful boat trip and the great biking trip. Also the food was more than amazing! I was just speechless after looking at all of these landscapes and doing all these unbelievable activities! I would definitely do it again and again! Thank you guys for this amazing service!

The tour operator was Ninh Binh Excursions, which guide did a good job. Kind of. Problem is that the group size was a medium-sized bus of about 20 ppl, and due to one or two.late persons it was already late than indicated pick up time. The first activity was climbing up the 500 stairs at Hang Mua, which would be good if it was not short before noon time, the time we arrived there - it was pure torture with a good view 😀. The bike tour was also not better as it was after lunch under midday sun, and the bikes were also not in the best conditions. The highlight was the boat ride at Tam Coc which was great.
I'd suggest to choose smaller tour group that arrives at Mua cave much earlier on the day to avoid the heat.
