We booked the cruise in the UK based on reviews and communication was really excellent. We generally dont like the concept of cruising but to see the bay, it's really the only option. We had the last berth so ended up opposite the kitchen, which was noisy from time to time. The staff need to be reminded not to get too loud! The room was a double so enormous with a nice balcony. The operation is very slick and people are changing all the time. The superficial room cleaning is ok but there needs to be a deeper clean from time to time. Halong bay is wonderful and the views from the top deck were spectacular, it's an absolute must see in Vietnam and the 3 day cruise is the best option finances permitting. The food was surprisingly good and we are veggies. All drinks have to be purchased, I do think given the cost of the cruise Mon Cheri should provide one free drink.
The excursions are good, kayaking and cycling was great and Cat Ba island is lovely. I which we had included it in our itinerary. Brian the guide was great continually trying to improve his not inconsiderable English skills. The staff were friendly
hard working and excellent and Jenny was a good organiser with great English. I have hesitation in recommending this company, as overall we had a great experience.

Overall, Mon Cheri Cruise was really great in terms of the staff service, room cleanliness. The rooms were spacious and relaxing. The balcony has great views, and I really enjoyed the bath tub in the toilet.
I would like to personally praise Mr.Lam and Mr. Bryany. Mr. Lam the dining manager was exceptional with his service; really friendly and goes beyond to make sure everything you need or want is taken care of. I would also like to praise Mr. Bryant, who was our tour guide during our day trip to Cat Ba Island. Although his English proficiency wasn't the greatest. He tried his best to ensure we understood everything he said! He is also well educated with the history of Cat Ba Island and Lanh Ha Bay which is awesome! As he himself, grew up in Lanh Ha Bay. Kudos to these two person!
I would like to comment on the itinerary of the Cruise. I think there is room for improvement in terms of activities to do on the cruise itself. Perhaps, some games or shows could be implemented. Furthermore, I also think that the day trip boat ride into Cat Ba Island could be shortened. We rode on the day boat for about 2 hours+ cruising along Lanh Ha Bay; which I personally think was not really needed. As the day boat did not have much to do. We were unfortunate that on the 3rd day, our trip to the cave got cancelled. We were looking forward to explore the cave.
The booking process was a little tedious having to email back and forth as the price on the Mon Cheri website, and Booking.com was different. Prices reflecting on booking.com was cheaper and did not have the 3% service charge fee. However, I book through Mon Cheri's website to feel a little secure as the difference was minimal.
All in all, I would recommend this cruise.

My fiance and I were on the 3 days/2nights cruise aboard Mon Cheri. I chose this cruise option because of all of the good reviews. While we did enjoy our time, here's a breakdown of the good and the bad.
We upgraded our room to the Mon Cheri Suite because we wanted the panoramic views from our room and the larger, private balcony with loungers. This was probably a waste of money. The engine is directly under this room so whenever the boat starts up (usually around 5am) you're up, too. The pool is directly above the room so you can hear chairs moving above and the jets to the pool are not quiet by any means. Also, the loungers are the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever sat on, we didn't even use them. The regular rooms looked perfectly fine and they are a much better deal than the suite - don't waste your money on the suite.
The boat itself is very nice, it has a soaker pool, although they don't have the heater running until the evening so if you have a cloudy, cool day like we did - it's just too chilly to lounge in. The bar area is open air, which is very nice because the views are really beautiful, especially if you can catch a sunset.
The food was just okay. Breakfast is buffet style but you can order omelets/eggs to your preference. The dinners were 5 courses so there is plenty of food, but we weren't huge fans (although everything is fine, it's just not great).
We made up our own itinerary because the one scheduled was just a little too busy for us. This was the end of our 3.5 week backpacking adventure through Vietnam so we really wanted to use this time to unwind and relax. We did participate in the first day itinerary (kayaking/bamboo boating through the dark and light caves). This was a nice experience boating under a couple of cliffs. The second day, we opted to stay on the boat rather than take part in the 7 hour excursion off boat. There really wasn't much to do on the boat, the staff were no where to be found, it would have been nice to have some drink/snack options because we weren't the only ones who opted to relax onboard for the day. We asked if they could turn on the heater to the pool but I don't think that they did because it was pretty chilly all day long and it was a cooler day so we didn't end up using it. We mostly relaxed on the top deck, played cards/games together and took in the peaceful and beautiful scenery.
Evenings consisted of happy hour (2 for 1 drinks) but the drinks are expensive for Vietnam. They are pretty well on par with what we would pay in Canada, if not more. They also do a spring rolls demonstration (fried one night and fresh on the second night). They are tasty! Dinner follows and that's about it, there's no nightly entertainment.
Did we enjoy our time: yes! Is there room for improvement: yes! If I could do it again, I probably would but would book just a regular room. Especially if you plan on doing the full itinerary because you're really not on the boat all that much.

We went to Mon Cheri for new year's eve. The room size was big enough with sitting next to big window but the furniture was really old. Water and other essentials in the room were enough and cleaning was also good. Although we were three families traveling together and we had requested rooms next to each other but they didn't give us. We mentioned it again when they were assigning rooms but they did not pay attention.
We wanted strict vegetarian food and to our surprise the food was excellent and they had made lot of things for us and would always ask for our feedback and request for the next meal. But the most disappointing thing was there was no dessert on the cruise. Even on the new year's eve all we got was fruits for dessert. This was the most disappointing part. We specially booked the cruise for new year's as it would be something special but there was nothing great about the celebration. Two people making us play games and some music in the background. We paid extra surcharge for being on the cruise for new years and it was not at all worth it.
The activities for the second day were good. We visited fish farms which was unique experience. Although we couldn't go to cat ba national park as it was closed on 1st Jan and surprisingly the cruise company did not know about it. They took us all the way there just to find out that its closed. The guide who came with us did not know good English and wasn't very cheerful.
The view outside is amazing. Weather was perfect. So overall the curise experience was fine but not at all worth the price we paid for it.

We travelled to Halong bay with mon Cherie cruises in late January and had an exceptional and unforgettable experience.
We had a beautiful cabin with a balcony where we were able to enjoy stunning views of the area and we were very well looked after by the excellent team that were on board .The itinerary was varied and included activities on board the ship as well as a visit to cat ba island where we enjoyed a cycling trip to a remote village with 2 staff members (Brian and Mr Lam ) who looked after us extremely well . Brian provided an interesting history of the area and he spoke English very well .
Food on this cruise was exceptional and of a very high standard as were the staff that were waiting on us .
We have some fantastic memories of our trip to this beautiful area thanks to the commitment and friendliness of the staff and would highly recommend this company to anyone visiting Halong bay .

When my travelling partner suggested a 3 day cruise of Ha Long Bay I almost refused to come along. I thought the cruise would be overpriced and disappointing but it turned out to be a highlight of my month long trip to Vietnam. The staff are incredible (a huge thank you to Jenny and Brian who were excellent) and the rooms are so clean with amazing views of the bay - I almost didn’t want to go on the excursions so I could just stare out my window all day. We had no problems with the excursions and liked how they offered different approaches to the activities so everyone could enjoy. The food was excellent and we felt absolutely no pressure to purchase alcoholic drinks. Mon Cheri was also very accommodating to my friend’s dietary restrictions and on our second night they even remade us a dish we loved from our first night. So glad I joined in on this cruise and highly recommend you do the same!

My family took the Halong Bay 3D2N cruise with Mon Cherie recently and had a wondwrful time onboard. Our guide, Vinh was absolutely awesome. He was very engaging and went his way to make our trip memorable. Just to mention that he was skillful in tsking great photo and videos. My daughter, Deborah was vsry impressed by him. All the staff onboard were attentive to our needs and very helpful. We had a great time and will definitely recommend to those considering going for the Halong Bay Cruise. If you can afford the time, we strongly recommend the 3D2N itinerary for maximum experience.

Just returned yesterday from the 3 day cruise, I booked it after being recommended by a friend, even though I was expecting big things, it exceeded my expectations, rooms were large and well equipped, including air conditioning, large bathroom and plenty of hot water. Comfortable beds with choice of pillows.
The large patio doors leading on to a small but sufficient balcony, waking up in the morning to spectacular views.
Dining area was clean and well equipped, staff were keen to please and very polite, nothing was too much trouble if you made a special request.
Nhàn was the tour guide, she was very pleasant, spoke very good English and made everyone feel at ease.
Lam was one of the male staff, a very lively character who added a bit of sparkle and kept us all smiling.

We booked 3 rooms for 7 people (ocean suite balcony x2 + ocean triple) for the 3 day 2 night itinerary. Cruise staff were very kind and accommodating. Booking staff was also very kind and helpful - they even upgraded our Ocean Triple room to an elegance triple family room. The room was extremely spacious with great extras like a massage chair and extremely conveniently located outside of the dining room.
The staff were particularly friendly and helpful.
Food was great, the seafood lunch on the first day being one of our favourites.
The day activities were great. The tour around Cat Ba was great (even though it was very hot when we went), the biking was nice, and easy to bail to one of the ecarts when you get tired of cycling.
We also opted to get the van service to bring and to and fro from Hanoi and the mini bus was very luxurious with unexpected stops at some tourist destinations that we appreciated.
The only criticism we had was the wifi only worked for short periods of time - however we acknowledge that it was out of their control as service on the bay was limited. We would be happy to recommend this cruise line to anyone.

These mini cruises are great but the 3 day, 2 night claim is somewhat misleading. It should be one half day, one full day, another half day and 2 nights which by my math equals 2 days and 2 nights. Having got that off my chest, I would say the length of time was perfect, an overnighter would be too short since it takes 3 hours to get the shuttle from Hanoi’s Old Quarter to the port where Halong Bay cruises depart.
The Mon Cheri Cruise ship exceeded my expectations. The cabins were large, well equipped with beautiful private decks. The meals were satisfactory but I expected more authentic cuisine. The activities were similar to other companies, the daily kayaking options were my favourites, mainly because of the breathtaking scenery.
My only criticism was that the crew were in your face the whole time, asking you if their service was good every chance they had. It was unnecessary and somewhat disingenuous, it gave you the feeling all they wanted was a big tip.
Overall though, a good experience for someone who would never go on a “regular” cruise.
