          Full Day tour- worth it!!!
A smaller refuge for elephants rescued from the logging industry. Shom our guide was very knowledgeable and didn't rush our experience at all. The full day tour exceeded our expectations! We got to spend such quality time with the elephants and bathing them was a memory we will cherish for life! The lunch was delicious and we even got an afternoon snack too! Cannot recommend enough!

          Highlight of our Lifetimes
Visiting this conservatory was an incredible highlight of our time in Thailand and of our lives. Firstly, the staff evidently take excellent care of the animals. The elephants are free to roam under the care and protection of their individually designated mahouts (caretakers). It is easy to see the elephants are very happy living here, and develop deep bonds with their mahouts and with each other in their scenic and well-maintained environment. Conversations with our tour guide, the mahouts, and the owner solidified the mutual relationships formed between staff and the elephants at the conservatory, who are passionate about providing a peaceful, caring, and nonexploitative home for these animals to thrive in (all very important considerations for us when selecting a sanctuary to visit in Chiang Mai). Additionally, I cannot recommend doing a full day tour enough. We had a much smaller group allowing for one-on-one time with the elephants and we appreciated the relaxed layout of the day, as it allowed us with enough time and energy to enjoy every part of the experience while also resting and taking breaks from the sun. My last note would be the amazing photographs we left with. As we booked the full day tour, multiple staff acted as our personal photographers and took so many incredible photos/videos of the entire day’s experience! We were so appreciative for the incredible funds of knowledge and expertise shared with us during the tour. Bring sunscreen, LOTS of bug spray, a fully charged phone, cash to tip your tour guide and get ready to enjoy an educational and once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Absolutely amazing experience our guide Shaun was full of knowledge and love for the elephants. We felt like part of the family team. Feeding. Walking the elephants and helping with there daily activities. Totally free and not forced into any experience. They loved touch and there mahoots care so much for them. We bathed them. Massaged them truly a lifetime experience

          It’s a must do!!!!
After researching the whole elephant rescue options we opted for the ran-tong due to the ethical reviews- we were not disappointed. Elephants were well looked after, all in good condition and very well fed!! Definitely no riding or making them do silly tricks. A precis of the day: changed into clothes given to us, learnt about the rescue centre and elephants, chopped up some food, fed it to them out in a field… made some more food and walked with them and fed them on the way to a pond… where we washed them and they actually squirted water at us hahaha… We then had lunch provided, which was amazing! Showers and home. This really was a trip of a lifetime that will never be forgotten! Elephants even outside our building when we made food. If you have even the slightest chance of visiting here please do not pass it up. Special thanks to “Oo Oo” our guide, she appeared to devote her life to this and other rescue centres .. amazing.

One of the best holiday experiences I have ever had
Rambo our guide was brilliant. Very funny and tried so hard to explain everything in English for us. The day started with being kitted out on tops trousers and flip flops and sunhats all your own clothes can be put on a locker . We had a talk then chopped up all the food for the elephants. Ventured out with our baskets of food and made friends with these beautiful creatures. We then made medicine balls with herbs and massaged the elephants whilst some of the group played sound bowls! Spa day for the elephants 🐘 💕. Then ended the day giving them a wash/ bath. Absolutely fantastic.

          Amazing experience
I recommend choosing the all-day tour. An incredible experience. You get a chance to be in close contact with rescued elephants. You prepare food for them, bathe them, and learn a lot of information from the excellent guides.

          Not good
We got picked up in a very dumpy dirty van that had a broken seatbelt in the front so not safe at all. We also had to drive to four other hotels around town to pick up other people so instead of a 1 Hour drive it turned into almost 2 long hours. The guide was really not good at all. Hard to understand and made dumb jokes instead of telling everyone about the elephants. That was disappointing, park seems nice and interacting with the elephants was great.

          The power of bananas!!!
I have visited elephant parks in a few parts of Thailand and elsewhere in the world but this visit was truly amazing. Our guide, Sri, was knowledgeable and informative. The entire experience was highly immersive and extremely hands on. Right down to bathing these beautiful animals. Dinner was simple but delicious. We will do this again in the future.

          Ethical and excellent
Excellent experience from start to finish. Elephants clearly well cared for and we made sure everything was ‘ethical’ before we booked it. Good guides, nice simple Thai lunch and transport included to and from the hotel . Highly recommended … suggest the morning trip as cooler in the day .. not afternoon or full day .

          HORROR SHOW
One of their elephants gored me with its tusks and I woke up from a coma nine weeks later. I was given a 1% chance of survival. There was no emergency preparation and no cooperation with authorities. Me so dumb: did not occur to me that elephant rescue means they have been abused, and have psychological problems. This is an elephant that never forgets. Big, dangerous, wild animals for your Thailand fun.

An intimate experience with happy elephants on a beautiful property.
Me and my partner spent the day at Ran Tong learning about the care and lives of their beautiful rescue elephants. We were the only two in the group who did the full day experience, which meant we had the afternoon activities all to ourselves which was incredibly special. Our guide, Siri, was amazing. She was very knowledgeable and passionate and took so many amazing videos and photos of our experience. The elephants all appeared happy and well cared for by their mahouts. Definitely recommend Ran Tong for a more intimate experience on a beautiful property.

          Great afternoon at Ran Tong
I had a wonderful time at Ran Tong Elephant rescue. The volunteers were extremely nice and informative and it seemed like they really cared for the animals. The elephants were well taken care of and their well-being was the central consideration of the workers. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a humane way to meet elephants and learn about them. This center actually rescues elephants. Watch out for places that just rent them and don’t actually rescue them.

This was the definite highlight of my first time trip to Chiang Mai. The host was friendly, engaging, humorous, and very knowledgeable. He made sure we were all comfortable with being up close to the beautiful elephants. Learning about Asian elephants, preparing their food, feeding them, bathing them, and taking pictures with them was so much fun! I especially loved being hugged and kissed with the trunk of one of the youngest elephants (with her momma by her side). The dinner after visiting the elephants was lovely - fresh fruit with pad thai. I highly highly recommend you include a visit to this Elephant rescue center to your Chiang Mai itinerary! 💯

One of our highlights of a two week tour of Thailand.

Perfectly hosted by "Brad Pitt" who provided a ton of education as well as some jokes. He really tried to ensure we had a good time and got great photos

The facility feels authentic and not too touristy or industrial. It's clearly a 'farm' very natural so don't expect perfectly level paving. It might not be suitable if you have mobility issues and certainly not if you don't like getting mucky!

That's why they provide clothing as the whole experience is up close and personal with the elephants. There was a range of activity from cutting up fruit to feed the elephants, to mixing up medicine for the elephants - and finally bathing the elephants.

No riding here. I know some frown about bathing - but the elephants seemed to be happy and the handlers were gentle. There are 10 elephants here, many with scars from their previous life and we felt this centre really is trying to do the right thing in the right way - but they need money and hence they need visitors. Please, don't miss this experience!

Ran-Tong was such a pleasant surprise in the best way possible. I was skeptical and apprehensive at first about everything, from how the elephants were being treated to the overall experience at the sanctuary. Looking back on it now, I was trippin about nothing. First off, the shuttle pick up service was included, on time, and easy to coordinate, no complaints there. Then our guide Oh Oo did the most amazing job explaining and teaching us about the elephants and the sanctuary, while sprinkling in her own humor to keep things engaging. And for the elephants themselves, everything seemed as ethical as possible and on their terms. They seem to have great relationships with the workers which says a lot. We got to interact with the elephants on land and in the water. Every activity involved either intermittently feeding the elephants or bathing them so it was a symbiotic relationship. And to wrap things off, they fed us such delicious complimentary food. Overall I have no complaints whatsoever, not enough words to describe how impactful this experience was. Thank you Ran-Tong Save and Rescue for doing what you do and Oh Oo for making our experience unforgettable!

Horrible treatment toward elephants but they hide it. Trainer who lead the elephant to the pond to be bathed was very upset with the elephant. The trainer had a poker hidden in his fist and was hitting the elephant in the trunk with his poker. The trainer did this many times. I understand that with such large animals training methods/tools will be different but this was bad. After the trainer had poked the elephant about 6 -8 times in the trunk, he then immediately tried to food the elephant a banana. The elephant was hesitant because the same trainer had just poked him many times but the elephant decided to take the banana from the trainers hand. As the elephant took the banana the trainer POKED HIM AGIAN!! For no reason. Horrible Horrible to see. Abuse physically and mentally.

I complained to our guide about the trainer and the guide tried to tell me it was a language barrier between him and the trainer and that the trainer is young and needs more training.
Don't come here if you love animals.

Here is a photo of the trainer that poked the elephant many times in the trunk and confused him by offering a banana and then poking him at the same time.

It's a good experience, I'm not in favor of going to these types of places but I was curious to know what they were like and to be able to have an informed opinion.
The guide who touched us was very friendly all the time, explained things about the elephants... but the truth was that we only fed them some corn and when it came to bathing we could mess with them to brush them to clean them a little.
I was expecting bigger spaces in semi Libertad, and in the end it was a small enclosure for viewpoint and nothing like its habitat. In the end this is still an attraction for tourists and although the elephants are well cared for or that seems to be the case, they are an attraction. Honestly if you love animals I don't know if I would recommend visiting them like this. I'm sure I wouldn't go again. But overall the deal is good and the food we were given very rich too

When they say just bring a change of underwear they’re not kidding…
The experience was awesome. We interacted with 5 elephants, one was pregnant!
The clothing they have you change into was great! Nicely laundered and simple. The hats were handmade and served their purpose. There’s a place to shower after.
Readying their food and feeding them was great.
Basically you’re paying to volunteer! HA! Loved that we did that hands on ‘work’!
I’d give it 5 stars if they’d scoop the poop in the water, that was yucky.

Great day. Really interactive with the elephants as much as they wanted. No pressure placed on the elephants and it seemed they were content and well cared for. The guides were really nice, friendly and knowledgeable.
Bus journey was a little arduous going as we spent a lot of time collecting or trying to collect people from hotels. Seemed to add a lot of time and it would be better just to be collected from one meeting point.

One in a lifetime experience, well organised and incredible fun....

Never have I ever been so up close to Elephants, it totally changed all my childhood zoo informed ideas about them.

This is an incredible experience and a really special memory, set in lovely grounds with helpful and fun staff.

The Elephants are clearly happy, well looked after and would highly recommend this trip.

My wife and I are in Thailand on our honeymoon and we decided to come to Chiang Mai to see the elephants. We are enemies of animal abuse so we decided to look for a tour to a rescued elephant sanctuary and we were pleasantly satisfied.

They picked us up at the hotel in an air-conditioned van and took us to the sanctuary itself which is approximately 40 minutes from the center of Chiang Mai. Our guide “O” (that was the name he gave us), was very kind to us, he gave us an introduction about the elephants and the sanctuary. They are impressive animals due to their size and strength, but noble, playful and affectionate. We saw approximately 8 elephants, we fed them, we walked with them freely, we bathed them and we gave them a lot of love. It was an incredible experience; In the end they served us a very rich and abundant meal, with noodles and fruit. Highly recommended experience.

It is important that you know that they are going to give you special shorts and a t-shirt from the sanctuary, you live the entire experience with clothes that they provide you and you leave yours in a locker. At the end you take a shower to put your clothes back on; If you want your experience to be more comfortable, bring extra underwear for the end, soap, shampoo and your own towel, because even though they lend you a towel and soap there, sometimes it is better to bring your own personal bathroom items.

Trip of a lifetime! The pickup from the hotel went smooth and it was about a 45min drive in a small bus.
The day started with a background on the elephants and what they went through before they were rescued, then we started making some food for the elephants which we got to feed them. They also told us the commands to let the smaller elephants do tricks.
Next we got some snacks and drinks, and made more food for the elephants and afterwards bathed with them.
It was a unique experience to be able to touch and interact with elephants in this way. Next to that, the guide also spoke great English and had a very good sense of humour, which kept the explaining very interesting.
