- epodowd0 contributionsSo worth it!Amazing full day cooking class, led by Chef K. He was funny, entertaining and obviously knew his craft. We got to pick out what to cook in 5 categories—curry, stir fry, soup, salad and dessert. We even made our own curry paste which was delicious. It was cool to see the garden in the back with all the herbs and vegetables, a lot of which we cannot get fresh in the US. Needless to say, I was stuffed by the end of class, full of delicious, fresh food. I highly recommend this tour; it’s our favorite one in Chiang Mai!Written 10 February 2025

Our group leader yo made us feel very welcome, he had a great sense of humour and made us feel very included. Our class was very and interactive and informative. The value for money was very very good would really recommend, they were very accommodating to my friends nut allergy's and explained well what they could or couldn't have. They also accommodate for vegetarians and for gluten free needs. We had 3 meals plus spring rolls, all of which were big portions, they gave you the option to take away your food after cooking it if you didn't want to eat it there with the group. We also went to a local market and got a tour of their organic gardens. This was a great afternoon!

First and foremost, complimentary shuttle service to and from the venue was nice. You get access to a selection of complimentary tea or coffee along with pastries as well, but that’s not why you’re here. A menu displays what you will be cooking and do come hungry because it was enough food to feed an army. You can also control the amount of spice you want in your dishes, as our instructor Nune told us (try to get her. She is lively and an excellent teacher) your first take a 5 minute walk to the market, where you learn everything that goes in your dishes, which you can also buy if you so wish. After that, you will venture out to the farm where all the cooking stations are. The teacher will then show you through the magnificent garden where all ingredients are locally grown. When it’s time to begin, all the herbs and necessities are processed and ready to go for you, wish is nice and convenient. The teacher will show you how to make the dish first and then multi task between everyone in your group to make sure you’re doing it correctly. Our party consisted of 8 people and who knew you could have fun with a bunch of strangers over cooking. Highly recommend giving it a whirl and you can be the critique of your own cooking and your partners.

I did really enjoy this - as well as making the dishes, we learned about the ingredients that go into them, and about how various Thai dishes are actually very similar. My guide was great and the price was very good. However, there were a couple of issues that make me reluctant to recommend it to everyone. Firstly, the school is a long way from Chiang Mai - if you're one of the first to get picked up, you might be in the minibus for over an hour each way, so don't do this if you get car sick! Secondly, to get the recipe book you have to enter your details via a dodgy website - my guide did tell us to close the ad after scanning the QR, but it wasn't clear to me that the page that immediately opened when I scanned that QR was an ad (and what it was an ad for was a scam site!), so if you decide to do this be vigilant!

Amazing experience from start to finish! We had the best teacher, Nina, who explained all the ingredients and dishes clearly and in the most fun way. We learned to make 4 dishes, spring rolls + choosing our own dish from 3 categories - stir fry, curry, and soup (I chose chicken holy basil, khao soi, and tom kha gai). It was really neat being able to cook in a wok and make our own individual dishes! I’m so looking forward to making all the recipes at home; they provide a PDF via email with all recipes they teach for all classes.
This was the highlight of our Chiang Mai trip - highly recommend this experience to any family, couple, friends, or solo travelers looking for a unique and delicious adventure.
Breakdown of the experience:
3-3:30pm: Got picked up at our hotel in Old Town
3:30-4:15pm: Headed to a market just outside the city and learned about the various spices we’d be cooking with. Also included 15 minutes of free time to purchase spices, snacks, etc. and use the toilet.
4:15pm-4:45pm: Drove to the Smile Organic Farm location
5pm-8:15pm: Amazing farm experience, from walking through the garden smelling/tasting fresh herbs and vegetables, making our own spices, and cooking our 4 dishes
8:15pm: Left the farm to head back to Old City

The Thai cooking class was a mixed experience but overall enjoyable. The afternoon-evening event ran from 3 PM to 8 PM, making it a substantial part of the evening. The pick-up and drop-off service was smooth and hassle-free, which started things off on a positive note. The farm visit was a nice though it was smaller than I had expected. While the fresh ingredients were a highlight, the overall setup felt more like a larger-scale operation than an intimate, hands-on class.
During the cooking portion, many ingredients were pre-chopped and prepared for us to assemble. While this approach saved time, it took away some of the hands-on experience. With 11 participants in my group and about 80 people at the venue in total, the environment was lively but occasionally a bit loud.
That said, it was a fun and engaging way to learn a few Thai dishes, especially for those who prefer a faster-paced experience. The hosts, particularly Yo, were fantastic—energetic, welcoming, and kept the mood light and entertaining. If you're looking for an efficient, high-energy introduction to Thai cooking, this is a great choice. However, those seeking a quieter, more personal class might find it less suitable.

Such a great experience!! We did the evening class, and Yo was our teacher/guide. He was brilliant, showing the ingredients, explaining the differences between the curries and plants and flavours.
The cooking options are great, and they catered well for vegetarian, kosher and gluten-free diets during our visit.
It was great fun and we left with very full bellies and smiles on our faces.
The evening class was great because you eat at a normal dinner time, the temperature is better for cooking, and we got to see a beautiful sunset over the surrounding hills.

Cheapest cooking course offered from the multitude available in Chiang Mai.
The explanations are complete and the guide is happy to answer questions.
I found it a shame to have only 10min to the market in the morning, justified by the fact that the farm is far from the center (30-45min drive depending on the hotel, fortunately taken into account round trip in the price)
It was an experience that I recommend to several people to make different dishes and taste more.
I highly appreciate that the given recipe book is complete despite the fact that we only did the half day.
Any prepared food is eaten or can be taken away. I would have liked to bring back our curry made the same day in a small pot.

This cooking experience was SO good. Our guide/chef, Smile, was amazingly good at walking us through everything - I am a complete cooking novice while my partner is a bit of a cooking fanatic - Smile adapted her pace to support all needs. I loved that we could choose different options for dishes so there was something for everyone at every spice level. I also enjoyed learning about the ingredients at the market and in the garden. The ebook of recipes at the end was the icing on the cake - I can’t wait to practice more when I get home. The value for money was insane considering we also got three full meals (you are given a doggy bag if you get full). We both loved, loved, loved it all.

Hello there,
I am just wondering if gluten free is easily catered for?
Written 28 March 2024
Hi, before start the chef asks for any allergies or vegetarian options, so I believe gluten free should be an option also

We made the spring rolls as a group and then we picked a main that we cooked individually with the matching paste. There may have been a soup too but I cannot remember.
I would really recommend going, it was a great experience!
