Very calm and original day with well treated elephants
If you want to visit an elephant sanctuary, THIS is the place - the rest is fake tourist places owned and paced by bigger tourist organizations for the money - not the elephants. Go HERE to this family owned place for the whole day and get very close to the elephants and the family who takes care of them for more than 140 years now, through generations. Very original and totally calm day with feeding, jungle walk, mud bathing and washing the elephants in the river. So funny and amazing. Don’t miss it!

A fantastic experience with the elephants
Really good experience, very dedicated personnel, doing what is best for the elephants. We fed the elephants, walked with them in the jungle. Then we had a nice lunch and we gave the elephants a mudbath and scrubbed them and finally bathed with them in the closeby river. It was very interesting and fun with the deepest respect for the animals. The day passed so quickly and we enjoyed it very much. Thanks to the friendly elephant caretakers.

An experience I will remember forever!
The most wonderful and ethical elephant sanctuary ever! These animals are safe, loved and cherished. Interacting with elephants has been a life-long dream of mine and I am so happy to say that it was everything I dreamed it would be and more. See you again, my friends!

Fulfilling and engaging day well spent!
Spent the entire day with these elephants and was thoroughly engaged throughout! I liked how we had to follow the elephants’ timing and not the other way round - they spent more time foraging in the jungle so lunch was served a little late, but that shows how important and well-cared for these elephants are! I am 4 months pregnant and found the walk into the jungle manageable. I skipped out on the mud bath and rinsing in the river, but enjoyed my time taking photos of my husband and the elephants. Highly recommend and I think this is one of the most ethical businesses allowing tourists to visit the elephants up close.

The Best Elephant Experience So Far! (:
We had a great experience connecting with the elephants Bancho, Beepo and Chocho! They were all so sweet and loved their time during their mud bath and rinse later down by the river. The guides were very helpful and perceptive in keeping us safe and supporting anyone who felt less confident around the elephants. Although there was a daily routine for the elephants, it did not feel forced, performative or exploitative. The animals were not made to do anything they did not want and were not forced to follow the speed of humans during our walk in the forest. The event was very intimate as it was a small group and we had lots of time to connect with the elephants. We particularly loved how the guides told us about the nuts in the forest that the elephants love eating. We also had a lovely encounter with a very gentle cow! Thank you again to Elephant Pride Sanctuary and the family for taking care of us. And of course, for rinsing the mud off my face from Bancho's tail! See you next time! (:

The best elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai!
An absolutely fantastic day! Chanchai and his family are extremely generous and hospitable, lunch was fantastic and transportation to and from the sanctuary was effortless. Most importantly, Chanchai and his family absolutely adore their family of elephants! It is very clear to see how much they care for these animals! They are completely free to roam around the jungle, it is so amazing to see these giant creatures in their natural habitat. I will recommend Elephant Pride Sanctuary to anyone who is looking for an unforgettable experience in Chiang Mai! Thank you Chanchai and to your human and elephant family!

          Once in a Lifetime Experience!
BOOK THIS EXCURSION!! It's amazing. On-time pickup from the hotel. It was only myself and my husband on this tour. So we rode in their SUV. The guide spoke great english and explained anything we had questions on and more! This is a family run tour and the elephants have been their family pets for over 65 years! The owners love the elephants like pets and open their home to interact with the elephants. No malpractice. The family is genuinely so kind hearted. The drive to the elephant sanctuary took 1hr and 45 minutes. About halfway through you stop to go to the bathroom and spend 15 minutes at the local market. It is very windey roads going up the mountain so bring dramamine just in case. I didn't need it though. The tour starts with feeding the elephants so they get used to you. Then you go into the mother and baby's pen. After that all the elephants take a short stroll. 200ish feet total. We follow their lead for how long they want to be out on a walk. You can tell they love it. Then we eat lunch prepared by the tour guide's wife. It was very good and filling! Then we changed out of our normal clothes and put on our swim suits to give a mud bath to the elephants. Then we walked to the river where we cleaned the elephants. Tips: You will get dirty. From sitting on the dirt ground or the elephant snot. The short stroll can be done in flip flops but I'd suggest wearing tennis shoes because there's slippery leaves. Then after lunch, no shoes in the mud. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes in the mud. Then wear water shoes in the river. The mud may not come completely out of your swim suit after washing it. The tour guide takes LOTS of pictures so you really don't need to take your own except for the very end when you're feeding the elephants and want some more "posey" photos. Bring your phone for photos for all parts except the mud bath and river washing. There are bathrooms with toilet paper and showers to rinse off after the river dip. Bring your own towel.

This was a great trip feeding, washing, and looking after the elephants, we also watched when they went for a swim. Covering the elephants with mud and then washing it of in the pond was out of this world, First class Highly recommended.

          Wonderful half day with elephants
What a wonderful visit!! We got to feed and bathe the elephants and the guides were so knowledgeable and friendly. It felt like a very safe place for the elephants, who are such gorgeous and gentle creatures. There was a newborn elephant, which was incredible to see - so people who visit over the next few weeks/months/years will get to interact with an adorable baby! The drive up the mountain is windy - folks who get carsick should bring medicine etc.

          Amazing Experience
This experience was the highlight of Thailand for myself and my family. Koko and his family treat the animals very well, like family. Initally I was nervous to go I had an unfortunate experience in Sri Lanka with a 'sanctuary' but I was so happy to see there are places dedicated to the ethical treatment of these animals and elephant pride is definitely one of them. We fed the elephants after Koko showed us how. We then walked with them. A delicious lunch was then served. After lunch we did a mud bath and wash of the elephants. At no point were elephants punished or forced to do anything. Thank you so much for this amazing experience.

One of the best days of our life
We visited this beautiful elephant sanctuary on our 3 weeks honeymoon trip and it was one of the best experiences we had in Thailand . The elephants are owned by a family and you can see and feel that they are happy and relaxed and part of the family . Two days before we came here , we visited another sanctuary and were 30 people for 4 elephants, it was horrible so that's why we decided to visit the pride family for a good experience where you don't feel guilty afterwards. First of all we experienced the day with only one other visitor , which is the concept of the pride family . Not more then one "tour" per day and also only in small groups. That made the Day so much better, special and private for us . We were picked up by a cousin of the family which was really nice and fun to talk to with good english skills. Then we got to know the elephants and got many Infos about the elephants and the life they life there and fed and spoke to the elephants. It was an amazing start . Afterwards we toured the nearby hills with the elephants and just experienced their day to day life. It was a mesmerizing experience. Afterwards we had tasty food in banana leafs and gave the elephants a mud bath, it was so much fun. Meanwhile the guides took pictures of us all the time , memories you will never forget . The final was a dive in the nearby river where we cleaned the elephants and also ourselves. You can feel the joy of them the whole time and you feel their relaxation and that they are not forced to this activities. The family also is such a joy and so hearty with good english skills and made it also that much beter. We came home with a smile and made memories for a lifetime , i couldn't recommend anything more then doing this day trip to the pride family

          amazing experience
You will hear lot of histories about elephants behavior in their first "natural experience". This sanctuary is the first place where the people teach them how to behave like elephants, is a little bit sad to know what happened to them and how the workers need to teach how to be elephants again, by their own. Some of them were worn under cautevry so is like teaching to a baby that they need to live.

This tour features an amazing elephant-centric experience. By allowing us humans to participate in the elephant routine, we can see the natural elephant up close. Walking with elephants, playing in the mud and bathing in the water were special experiences that blended into their lives.

One of the attractions of the tour is that tour Guide Chan chai is fluent in Japanese and can learn about the history of Chiang Mai and its connection to Japan, which is unknown to the Japanese. For example, at Chan Chai's sanctuary, he grows rice, a variety that was once introduced by the Japanese. Thai rice is famous in Thailand, but in the mountainous region of Chiang Mai, cold water is available, making it suitable for growing Japanese rice, which has been passed down from generation to generation. For lunch, we had this rice, fried chicken, omelet, and fruit to suit the Japanese taste.

Of course, some other tours can accommodate large groups and run many times a day, and may be more affordable and adaptable to your itinerary. However, if your main objective is to interact with elephants in Chiang Mai, I think this tour is worth more than the price.
It is not a receptive to sustainable tourism, which has recently been attracting attention, but a very valuable experience that values the ancient culture and conveys it to Travelers, and is highly recommended for those seeking to interact with elephants in Chiang Mai.

        Elephant Pride Sanctuary

We had booked our visit to the Elephant Pride Sanctuary before flying to Chiang Mai. Shortly after arrival, the down town area of Chiang Mai flooded, and access to several hotels (including ours) was compromised. We were very impressed that the Sanctuary kept us informed on a daily basis what the issues were, and what options were available. On the day of our visit, their guide Koko kept us updated on his progress, and made it to our hotel on time. He did a great job on briefing us before setting off, and making sure we had all the swimming gear we needed for the visit.

The drive to the sanctuary was about an hour and a half, and throughout the drive Koko kept commenting on the surrounding countryside, the rice paddies, crops and villages. He also gave a great overview of what we would be doing for the day …..

When we arrived at the sanctuary, the sun had come out, and we were introduced to the three female elephants. - grandmother Bipoh, mother Bunchan, and 18 month old baby Jojo. It was clear that they were the focus of the farm. We were very lucky that the two of us were the only visitors that day. We started by learning how to feed them, with sugar cane and bananas, both by letting them take food with their trunks, and also by putting food directly into their mouths. It’s a bit intimidating when you start, and you’re feeding two 6000 lb ladies, and an 800 lb baby, but it quickly becomes second nature to be firmly tapped by a trunk when they’re ready for the next piece of sugar cane.

We were given bags of cane and bananas, and started walking into the jungle with the three elephants following us, and Koko telling us about the local flora and fauna. We spent about two hours walking along with the elephants, feeding them and watching how they rubbed themselves against trees to remove flies, tore down branches and stripped bark and leaves from them to eat, and watching Jojo play and (in addition to taking solid food) feed from Bunchan.

The elephants were completely relaxed and a pleasure to be with. Wonderful to be able to walk with them in the jungle beneath a canopy of trees, and see them interact with each other and us.

We returned to the farm for lunch, with was delicious, and all made with homegrown rice, vegetables, chicken and eggs, and chillies. After a rest, it was time to give the elephants their mud bath, and then get into the river with them to wash off all the mud - both on the elephants and us …. Be prepared to be covered in mud, as the elephants fling it on themselves and the staff and visitors ……. It’s a wonderful experience and the cold water in the river a marvelous contrast.

We finished up feeding the elephants with fresh fruit for a while and then made the return trip to Chiang Mai.

Overall, this was one of the most meaningful and moving interactions that we have ever had with elephants (or any other cognizant animal) in their natural habitat. The elephants are wonderfully looked after, and seem to welcome interaction with humans at all levels, not just as food providers - kudos to all at the Elephant Pride Sanctuary and thank you for letting us experience this interaction with these magnificent animals.

We did this for our ten year wedding anniversary and it was AMAZING! Absolutely worth it and such a beautiful day! Highly recommend it if you want to have fun but still support an ethical elephant experience. Coco Loco and his cousin Cherry picked us up from our hotel around 8:30 in a comfortable air conditioned van and the 1.5hr drive to the farm was beautiful and part of the fun! On the way we stopped at a local market for a bathroom break and were able to buy delicious coffee and snacks.
Like the other reviews said, this is a family operation and the elephants seem to be quite content and well taken care of. This business helps support the local karin family and community who own the elephants without having to use the elephants in logging or other enterprises. The full day is wonderful because you don't feel rushed and also the elephants can do things in their own time. We started by feeding the elephants and then walked through a picturesque rice field to get to the nearby mountain jungle and join the elephants on their daily walk through the forest where they enjoyed scratching themselves on trees and digging up tasty roots to munch on. After that we enjoyed a delicious traditional lunch wrapped in banana leaves and generous servings of fresh fruit-the best pineapple I have ever had.
After lunch you join the elephants at the mud hole and if you choose (we did) you can go in with them and help bathe them in mud. It's dirty obviously (mud) but it's a blast! The elephants come and go as they choose. The younger elephants stayed in longer and seemed to be really enjoying themselves.
After the mud wallowing we all walked down to the river and washed off, helping spray the elephants with water as well. It was a really special day with such majestic creatures. Coco Loco, Cherry, and the mahouts were all very helpful and kind, explaining about the elephants and answering our questions. The landscape and scenery there was also very beautiful!
Considering all the time you can spend with the elephants, the long ride and delicious lunch, as well as all those involved in caring for the elephants and their care, the price is acceptable.
We already recommended this to our friends who went the next week for their honeymoon and also had an amazing time! It is a wonderful experience that will make a memory for a lifetime!

We selected this elephant sanctuary because it was a little smaller than some of the more popular ones. We are SO glad we did! We were the only ones who booked on our day so it was essentially a private tour. We were picked up by Koko and rode in a comfy air conditioned van. It was a long drive but we got to stop for coffee. When we arrived we got to feed the elephants before going on a little walk while they ate more in the woods. After lunch we bathed the elephants. The care takers clearly take a lot of care and pride in their work with the elephants and they appear to be treated well.

Elephant pride provided showers, lunch, water, and a plastic bag to bring our wet clothes in. This was an incredibly special experience and was definitely a highlight of our trip. We were dropped off back to our hotel by 5pm.

The moment we arrived it was evident that we made the right decision when selecting Care Pride. Along the drive ( it is definitely further than many other sanctuaries) we passed many establishments that looked like glorified petting zoos this is not the case here. The owners are passionate about the care of their elephants and it’s evident. It was explained to us that the elephants would dictate our day. We would have the opportunity to feed them, walk with them and bath them but the pace and time lines would be set by them and the elephants would in no way be entertaining us we were there on their terms.
Pride does only one tour a day with a very limited number of guests which ensures lots of one on one time with the elephants. I would highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience to immerse yourself with these amazing creatures in at an ethical sanctuary.

We travelled to Chiang Mai solely to visit this ethical. Elephant Sanctuary. We were in contact with the sanctuary directly and they offered us a discounted price and were so responsive and communicative in the run up to our trip. They sent out a detailed itinerary and our driver coco collected us in the morning and was relaxed, chatty and friendly. We drove just under 2 hours to the jungle (we were a couple and 3 other people joined the trip). The family that care for these animals treat them with kindness and dignity. Nothing was rushed or forced, everything was enjoyed at the pace of the elephants. Baby Jojo was 6 months and playful, charging into some of us and the family. It was lovely to see the families bond with the elephants, playing with them, cuddling and interacting. I learned lots of facts about elephants, the things you learn are not scripted and are a result of natural, inquisitive conversations with your guide/the family. The day with these intelligent creatures was so wholesome and peaceful. The scenery itself around the elephants beautiful. Coco was very helpful.

My wife and I went on this unforgettable tour today! We can recommend anyone who cares about the well-being of elephants to book with Elephant Pride Sanctuary! The three elephants are considered part of the human family and are not forced to do anything: no collars, special strictness in dealing with the animals, etc. - the elephants simply go their own way when walking and if they decide to knock down a tree and eat the leaves, then this is accepted and we watch patiently and wait until the elephants are finished or we go back to the camp earlier with a guide. There is no pressure for the tourists to do anything, you can just experience the animals up close. The food was also very tasty, by the way. The journey is certainly a bit longer than with other providers, but it is definitely worth it! Picking up and dropping off went smoothly. The way the family-run Elephant Pride company works, you can get very close to the animals without going home with a bad feeling. We recommend booking

The setting was so idyllic & beautiful...water buffaloes, rice fields & local river in lush green Doi Inthanong National Park. The experience of walking with, playing, feeding & bathing a family of 3 elephants (Grandma, Mom & 3 month old baby) in their large sanctuary was so special! Baby Jojo was so playful and cute; she's still learning how to eat more solid foods (we fed her bananas and watermelon flesh in smaller chunks). We enjoyed the full day experience at a relaxed pace with a small group of 6 (which sets this company apart, as they cap their group at 12). Simple lunch, shower stall & toilets were available. We got by with crocs/slippers throughout, though some areas were slippery (even for others with shoes). Koko (our guide) was very friendly, easy to understand & helped take lots of pictures. The air conditioned van ride felt lux, especially as we passed by many other elephant tour groups riding in open aired jeep buggies. You get the feeling the elephants are well loved and cared for. This surreal interactive experience was priceless!

What an incredible experience. I chose this sanctuary over all others, including those in Phuket, because I saw so many people comment in the ethics of the business and I have to agree. You do get to give the elephants a mud bath, then splash them clean in the creek, but how much time they want to spend at either activity is up to them and they are allowed to come and go as they wish. There are 3 elephants at this sanctuary, all females. The baby (who is technically a toddler haha) was so adorable and it was so lovely feeding her sugar cane and fruits. And so incredible giving so many foods to "grandma" and "momma" (they do have names but I'm terrible at names!) Lunch was lovely, with chicken, egg and rice with fresh fruit. Overall, I'm satisfied with my choice to wait to see the elephants until I came to Chiang Mai and I'm so glad I chose this sanctuary.
