Located on the banks of Klong Bang Luang on the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya River, Baan Silapin (The Artist’s House) is a hidden gem devoted to preserving Thai culture. Here you'll experience what life in Bangkok was like before the concrete jungle took hold. The wooden house, over 200 years old and lovingly restored by its owner, sits at the heart of a small community of rustic shophouses which are connected by a wooden walkway that follows the edge of the klong (canal).

Awesome trip to the markets and temples!
Excellent day trip to visit the railway markets, floating markets, and several temples. Our guide Joyce was very informative, friendly and suggested a great place by the river for lunch. Highly recommended!

Great tour - would do again
Our tour guide was awesome. There were only 2 of us on the tour and my friend ended up not feeling well and leaving halfway through but our guide continued on with me and was so friendly and knowledgeable. Great way to see and learn about the main temples in the city for an excellent price.

      Ayutthaya Tour
This tour was enjoyable overall, with room for improvement. Our guide, Joyce, was friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic. The best bits: - The 90-meter Buddha was awe-inspiring, and Joyce's explanations were insightful. - Watching the monkeys at Phra Prang Sam Yot was unique. - Watching the Buddha inside the three was a good experience. To be improved: - Water availability could be communicated earlier or offered throughout. - Feeding monkeys felt unnecessary and my personal opinion is that it could be reconsidered. - More meal options would enhance the experience for those with dietary restrictions. - Missing Wat Yai Chai Mongkol as was closed, this should communicated during booking or at the tour start. The tour is decent for those who enjoy cultural and historical highlights, but be aware that a significant portion of the time is spent traveling in the car, which may feel excessive compared to the number of temples visited let’s say we left the hotel at 7:40 am and came back around 16:30. I would say memorable but with potential for improvement!

This tour was absolutely great! When I booked it I just thought tul tuk and food….. yes, ideal. But it was so much more. My husband and I did this on our first night and it really gave us an overview of where to go on the following day, where things were in relation to other things. We sampled food we wouldn’t have tried and gave us the confidence to ride on a Tuk tuk and hop on and off boats. Our guide, Tak, was adorable. So patient and informative and he really looked after us. I completely recommend this tour to you.

Unforgettable Tour to Maeklong Railway & Floating Market!
Our tour to the Maeklong Railway Market and the Floating Market was an unforgettable experience! Watching the vendors swiftly fold their stalls as the train passed was mesmerizing, and the Floating Market was full of delicious street food, and an authentic Thai atmosphere. A huge thanks to our amazing guide Suan, whose knowledge, energy and passion made the tour even more special. She shared fascinating insights, gave great tips, and ensured we had the best experience. Highly recommended!

By far one of the best Bangkok activities!!! I selected the 16:30 tour, to both avoid the heat wave as well as to enjoy the sunset and it was the perfect combination!! Our guide Pam was fantastic and full of hilarious stories and tales of the 'Bangkok Venice' as she called it!:) We visited the Artist's House which is so lovely but only accepts CASH unfortunately, so remember to bring some with you incase you want to get a souvenir or a drink while you're there!! Highly recommended!!

Hi, we took the Longtail Boat Tour which meets outside of a specific Elefin Coffee shop. We walked down an alley and along a raised platform to the dock where the boat was. We went down canals and saw a variety of homes, empty land or businesses along the canals. We also stopped at a temple with the largest Buddha in Thailand and another stop where you could shop, get a snack or use the restroom, and feed the fish. Then back to the original starting point.

Notes: I would not recommend this if you are physically challenged since you will have to get on and off the boat 3 times. Also would not be good for small children unless you are helping/watching them constantly.

Stop 2: There are no rails to protect people from falling in the canal at the very small shops there. Basically it is wooden walkways then a fall into the water if you are not paying attention. If you walk farther down, there is a bridge that goes over the canal. You can get some nice photos from here. Be careful since motorized two wheeled vehicles zip up either side. You should be on the stairs side of this not very wide bridge. There are a lot of fish in the water and you can buy fish food from the vendors.

The tour itself is highly recommended since it is inexpensive, you get to ride a Longtail, see a side of life which can't be seen from land and guided by friendly locals.

We sat very close to the front and the boat can bounce in the water when hitting bigger waves from other boats so you could get very lightly wet or sprayed but it's Bangkok so it might feel good. When going down the canals and encountering other boats, the boats would slow down to minimize bouncing.

One other thing, after exiting the boat at the end, we had to leave the area by going over a gate. The gate is about the height of straddling a bike or a little less. I can understand having a gate to keep small children from the water but couldn't it have been opened and people can walk out. This definitely would rule out people with disabilities or limitations. Also, why was there a raised walkway on the the way in/out towards the boat dock. On the way out, we just walked on the ground next to it.

Anyways, I really liked the tour and recommend it for capable people.

I would absolutely not recommend this, especially for families with children. The meeting point for the boat was on a bus stop (with no shade or seating opportunity), it was very difficult to find (taxi dropped us off at wrong place) and with no poster or sign that we had come to the right place. Also, with a 10 minute waiting window before they leave and with traffic and time to get there being very unpredictable, you'd either have to stand in the sun in the bus stop for a very long time or arrive too late depending on traffic.
We were two families with kids and arrived too late due to one in our group being sick which delayed departure, in addition to traffic and difficulty to find the meeting point. We tried to call the company arranging the boat tour, but there was no answer. When we got there we were asked to wait so that we could take the next boat trip, only to wait 1 hour to be told it was full. I have tried to get a refund since we did not receive the service, but they refused. So ended up paying 11 000 THB for nothing. Close to the bus stop is a dock with shaded waiting area where you can book long tail boats directly, much better and a lot cheaper so recommend doing that instead.

Dear Eva, Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear you were not able to make it in time to the meeting point and missed the tour. You booked a group tour with start time at 11 AM. When you make a reservation for a group tour, it means other people join the tour as well. In the activity listing is well specified that the activity starts at 11 AM and there is a grace period of 10 minutes. Not only this is well disclosed but you also received an email informing you of this. Our guide and the other participants arrived at the meeting point well in time and waited for you even longer than the 10-minute grace period, but unfortunately you did not show up. We could not wait any longer since we have to be respectful of other people’s time as well. We hope you understand. None of our Operations Team members told you that you could join the next time slot, since they were already aware that the next time slot was fully booked, so I am curious from who you got that information. After you made your booking, you received a manual confirmation with the exact Google Maps link of the location and photos of the meeting point which is located just south of the famous Wat Pho, known by every taxi driver in Bangkok. Directly opposite the meeting point is Elefin Coffee, an airconditioned coffee shop where you can enjoy a cold drink while waiting for the tour to start, so there is no need at all to wait outside in the sun. From the coffee shop you have a clear view of the bus stop at the other side of the road where our guide, wearing a blue WanderSiam shirt, will be waiting for the participants. In case of no-show we cannot refund you since you already took a spot that prevented other guests from joining the activity. Despite your disappointing experience with us, we hope you had a wonderful time in Thailand.

The long tail boat we boarded was very noisy so we could not hear the tour guide. It also smelled awful due to the engine, so I would recommend a face mask to protect from the pollution. We were not offered life jackets, although other tour providers had all their guests wear one. One guest on our tour asked the tour guide for a life jacket and the guide made jokes and did not offer one until another guest pushed for them. This was completely unprofessional. We did not stop at the Buddhas / Temples which I personally didn’t realise when reading the description. We stopped for 30 minutes at the floating market area with a temple, however, we were marched through on a circular walk and had no time to browse or purchase anything. All in all it was disappointing and felt extremely rushed. With not being able to hear the tour guide (which he was aware of) the tour felt pointless. We could have hired a boat instead. One plus was by booking the 3:30pm tour we did see the temple at sunset from the boat at the end of the tour, which was beautiful.

Disorganised getting people into groups .Tour didn’t start until over 15 minutes past starting times. Did not give a professional feel. Started with one tour guide then another 2 appeared at different times . Given instructions to go with one guide then suddenly swapped over to another with no explanation.
Not really a tour as such just a ride on the boat . Could not hear what guide was saying due to boat noise if the guide used a microphone that would be better. The front 2 guests were the only ones that could hear anything.
Quite a big drop from jetty into / out of boat with no support to hold onto. So would be difficult for some groups of people. I know it mentions mobility issues but I do not have any & found it not very easy to get in/ out of boat gracefully. Thankfully my husband & other passengers offered assistance.
Not really worth the money tbh.
Could do similar experience on your own.

I recently participated in a Bangkok Canal Tour, hoping for a unique perspective on the city from its historic waterways. Unfortunately, the experience fell significantly short of expectations for several reasons.

Firstly, there was not enough time spent on the boat itself. The allure of a canal tour is to explore the intricate network of waterways that define Bangkok's charm and history. However, the actual time on the boat was disappointingly brief, giving us only a fleeting glimpse of life along the canals. The majority of the tour was spent on land, which was not what I had anticipated.

Additionally, an excessive amount of time was allocated to visiting temples. While the temples are undoubtedly beautiful and culturally significant, the tour's itinerary included too many of them. This imbalance meant that we spent long periods walking through temple grounds instead of enjoying the scenic and serene canal views from the boat. The experience felt more like a temple tour with a brief boat ride rather than a true canal tour.

Moreover, the tour was marred by poor time management, particularly due to other customers not adhering to the set meeting times and places. This caused unnecessary delays and extended waiting periods, significantly cutting into our already limited time on the water. The lack of punctuality and coordination was frustrating and detracted from the overall experience.

Given these issues—insufficient boat time, an overemphasis on temples, and excessive waiting due to poor organization—I cannot recommend this canal tour.

Dear Heike, Thank you for leaving a review, although it's not the kind of review we are always hoping for. We are sorry to hear that the canal trip did not meet your expectations. If time permits, we usually only get off the boat at Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen where the tallest Buddha in Bangkok can be found. So I am a bit surprised to hear that the trip included 'too many' temples. Perhaps you can reach out to me directly as I would like to have more information and discuss it with the guide. Meeting time for your tour start was at 9:30 AM with a 10-minute grace period (which is also mentioned on the tour page and in the confirmation we sent after booking). We clearly warn participants about Bangkok's notorious traffic, but it can still happen people are a bit delayed, so we think it's fair to provide a 10-minute grace period. Despite your negative experience on our tour, I hope you had a wonderful stay in Thailand. With warm regards, Dave

Booked tour at short notice and enjoyed the introduction to life on the side canals to the main river. Encountered no delays on entry to the canal.

Artists Village was interesting and worthy of an independent visit and extended stay.

However, consider the price of the tour excessive and guide provided was very weak with little intervention or knowledge conveyed beyond the initial roll call and transfer to the boat. From reading other reviews I guess we were unlucky in this respect.

The 2 hour boat tour consisted of 2 stops (one at the big Buddha and another at the artist market). The view from the canal is amazing and we had a chance to see thai life. I definitely recommend doing this activity in the morning as it’s not energy intensive.

We had Joyce as our guide, and we were very grateful because he was incredibly nice, funny and could speak English very well, so we understood everything. He couldn't help it because we had to wait so long at the lock. Personally, I would have liked a bit more time in the artists village to visit several shops, because time was too short. The Big Buddha was unfortunately veiled, but we were able to get a good impression. It’s fun to ride in the canals with the longboard and we’ve seen a few corners that would otherwise have been denied us. We would definitely recommend the excursion for water enthusiasts, warbler sighting incl.
