About
Begin your full-day journey north of Bangkok to Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of a 14th-century Siamese kingdom and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Start your exploration at the royal monastery, home to a striking white prang in the heart of the ancient complex. Next, visit the iconic Wat Mahathat, where the Buddha's serene face is famously entwined within the roots of a tree. Continue to the sacred Wat Na Phra Men, housing a magnificent golden seated Buddha statue.
Your knowledgeable guide will share the captivating history of Ayutthaya. Your journey through Ayutthaya's heritage continues at Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, once the holiest temple of the city.
Around midday, board a riverboat for a scenic cruise along the Chao Phraya River. Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch as you gently drift past lush landscapes and riverside villages. Return to Bangkok, arriving at River City by approximately 4:00 pm, after a day filled with culture, history, and relaxation.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Joanna B0 contributionsWell worth booking for a Phuket arrival.Delightful young lady who met us just before passport control; took us through empty fast track, avoiding a long queue. Waited to collect our luggage; insisted on pushing trolley to find our transfer company and waited again until we were loaded up. Polite, welcoming and offered us excellent calm service.Written 14 February 2025
- kennyd9450 contributionsValentines DayFood was good. Service was great. Top of the boat was not open so view was compromised. Entertainment was very good. Has to go downstairs to get seafood and was limited to one shrimp on a plate.Written 14 February 2025
- A7752LHkevinl0 contributionsAwesome ExperienceWhat a great dinner cruise, we couldn’t fault this experience at all. The food was amazing with a large variety to suit all tastes. The staff were very helpful, they even shelled our prawns for us! The traditional Thai dancing & singers were very entertaining. This is a smaller boat so there are less people, boarding and queuing for food was easy. I highly recommend this dinner cruise.Written 14 February 2025
- yorkwhite210 contributionsGreat way to see Bangkok at nightWe went on the Saffron river cruise as we were staying at the Banyan Tree hotel and this is connected with it. The food was pretty good considering they were serving so many people at the same time, and the service was typical Thai, charming and efficientWritten 14 February 2025
- Sherry D0 contributionsOverall great time!Great fun, food, overall experience. Staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive. The views up and down the river were beautiful. We took the trip at sunset, for some great photos.Written 13 February 2025
- warren1260 contributionsWonderfulLet’s be brutally honest- we had seen some of the poorer reviews but weighing up versus the good ones we booked it to take a chance rather than opting for the booming music boat trips that sail up and down the river. So, tonight we have had the most wonderful trip celebrating my good lady’s 60th birthday and there is nothing but praise to be given. Although there was slight miscommunication before we set off in relation to our meals, there was nothing to fund fault. The free boat transfer is great because getting to the starting point by road would be a nightmare. On the boat, once the staff realised we weren’t seafood lovers, they provided an excellent alternative - 6 courses overall as well as birthday girl surprise with a cake. Food was top drawer, staff were all superb, the atmosphere is spot on whilst meeting the chef at the end made it all the more worthwhile. Yes, the drinks cost more buts that’s why you are on a luxury fine dining cruise and not a back street pub in downtown Bangkok! Thank you to everyone for making our evening special.Written 13 February 2025
- Culture322787922530 contributionsInteresting experience but with a few disappointments.Booked trip easily through Viatour. Collected from Bangkok on time and all arrangements went very smoothly until our train ride on day 2 and return trip with our guide to Bangkok. The guide who we met at Kanchanaburi restaurant to take us to Resotel was brilliant - friendly, attentive and informative. He was very helpful and caring with us when getting in/out of the longtail boats. On day 2 he was excellent when taking us around the Mon village. We learnt much about village life. His name is Ka (nit sure of spelling). Our guide to and from Bangkok was NOT impressive. His presentation on the bus was poor. It was not helped by bus microphone being distorted. When our Train was delayed on day 2 , he did not keep our group updated as to what was happening. We learnt about the delay from other guides with other groups. Once on the train, he looked at his phone and fell asleep. Other guides were pointing things out, scenery and landmarks. If it hadn’t been for him we would have given this experience 5 * but he he really spoilt the experience and let the company down.Written 13 February 2025

- roseeF979GD0 contributionsSolo femaleThis was my first experience with Muay Thai and I enjoyed it. I happened to be put in the front row, less than a meter from the fighting. The process of getting the ticket was single and staff guided well. I got there early and really didn’t have to the meet time is the get there early time.Written 12 February 2025
- CPSConsult0 contributionsA sobering railway journey into a tragic military history of WW2 in Thailand along the Thai-Burma railway. The historical journey on the “Death Railway” from the old southern Thonburi train Station in Bangkok Kanchanaburi to its very north western end stop of Nam Tok Station in Kanchanaburi. An enlightening journey that rocks, rolls, clatters & trundles along for a solid two & a half to three hours to Kanchanaburi Station or onward for a further one & a half to two hours to the end of the line at Nam Tok. All touring passengers can alight from the two trains daily in both directions at any station of their choosing. There is an additional third train that runs daily in both directions from Kanchanaburi Station to Nam Tok thus affording tourists to experience the most interesting & historical sites of the Death Railway & the infamous Bridge Over The River Kwai as well as the deadly & precariously built Wampo viaduct along with some other sights to behold. Once in Nam Tok you can take a shuttle bus, taxi, shared transport or private tour as well as an unreliable often late local bus to “Hell Fire Pass” the museum & 3 kilometres hike around the pass & back (6 kilometres in all) so about 4 miles in the heat with plenty of mosquitos for company. In summary a sobering few days touring to bear witness to what Allied Forces POW’s suffered between 1939 & 1946 during WW2. Obviously the history evidences that the Japanese army oversaw the POW’s construction of the Death Railway section of the Thailand Burma mainline for a shorter period of time during WW2. All is well laid out at various historical points through the mind boggling journey. What our Allied Forces suffered during their POW internment is unimaginable & horrendous. Well worth taking one’s time to bear witness to carnage that was their world & to salute their brave yet ultimately tragic sacrifice. Highly recommend the train journey in both directions as well as walking certain sections of the track. Optimal to take 2-3 days to do justice to the historical happenings in the region.Written 11 February 2025

- pierremI3525RG0 contributionsAwesome! highly recommended!Unforgettable Experience at Gray’s Cave Canoeing – A Must-Do in Thailand! Our adventure with Gray’s Cave Canoeing in Thailand was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us with warm smiles and professionalism, ensuring we felt comfortable and well-prepared for the journey ahead. Their knowledge of the area, combined with their friendly and accommodating nature, made the entire experience even more enjoyable. The canoeing itself was absolutely breathtaking. Paddling through the stunning limestone caves and tranquil lagoons felt like stepping into a hidden paradise. The scenery was otherworldly, with towering cliffs, emerald-green waters, and a peaceful ambiance that truly allowed us to connect with nature. The guides were not only skilled but also passionate, sharing fascinating insights about the caves and local wildlife along the way. To top off this incredible excursion, the meal provided was delicious and exceeded our expectations. The food was fresh, flavorful, and authentically Thai, making for the perfect ending to an already amazing day. Gray’s Cave Canoeing is an experience I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Thailand. Whether you’re an adventure seeker or just looking for a serene and unique way to explore nature, this tour is a must! - Freedom068864993040 contributionsSo worth it!Definitely worth it. I was met right at the end of the jet bridge and escorted onto the train to the main terminal for immigration. At that point I realized it was well worth the money as the regular immigration line was huge. I went through a priority lane and maybe waited 5minsWritten 8 February 2025

The entire day out was well organized and our guide, tip, shared such great information about the Thailand culture, temples and her home town of Ayutthaya where we went. With a few stops in Ayutthaya we thought things would feel rushed but actually it was just the right amount of time at each point. And the boat ride back to Bangkok, wow what a lunch - so many choices; and lots to see along the way. Terrific day all around and well recommended.

My husband and I enjoyed this trip. The bus left on time at 0745am from the River Pier. The tour guide, Ms First, was engaging and had a lot of trivia about Bangkok and Ayutthaya. We went to three temples before proceeding to the cruise. The lunch buffet was delicious. We arrived back to the pier before 4 in the afternoon. A great day out
