About
On this 17 km cycling tour, we explore Bangkok’s hidden gems by bike and boat. Starting in the heart of the old town, we make our way to one of Bangkok’s first settlements, cross the Chao Phraya River by ferry to explore Thonburi’s unique temples, and pedal to local markets filled with the scent of flowers and herbs. We then venture to a hidden artists community to watch local artists work and socialize then explore Bangkok’s tucked away canal networks by longtail boat for a different view of life along the banks. This tour is perfect for those looking for a unique experience truly off the tourist track!

What to expect
  • Meet your guide at the bike shop, situated in an easily accessible location in central Bangkok. Don your supplied cycle helmet, hop on your provided bike, and set off into the vibrant streets behind your guide for your leisurely 8-mile (13-kilometer) ride. Pedal down alleyways to see the inner workings of the city, and pass through a bustling market on route to the Chao Phraya River. Here, catch a ferry to the western, more traditional districts of Bangkok. Admire the cityscapes as you sail, and on arrival, cycle through the vibrant canal-woven settlements and communities. See two warehouses that are over 100 years old, and learn about their history. Trundle along winding, leafy trails and elevated paths to the Klong Bang Luang Artists’ Village, a district of canalside stilted houses, galleries, markets, and temples. Visit the Klong Bang Luang Artist’s House, a waterside 2-story teakwood house with an art exhibition space and café, all centered around an old stupa (temple spire). Continue to other out-of-the-way treasures, and learn about the everyday lives and culture of the locals in this slower-paced quarter. Finally, ride a boat through the canals before your trip concludes at the original departure point.

The trip itself start in Chinatown from where you cycle to Thonburi (the former capital) across the Chao Phraya river. Here you cycle along narrow alleyways and spend some time seeing religious buildings and get an overall impression of life in this chilled area of Bangkok. To conclude the trip we had a Khlong ride along the canals before heading back across the river. We booked the trip online and the whole process was easy and transparent.

Our tour guides on this trip were Thorn and Morley. Thorn was our head honcho and set the pace. He is an amazing source of on the history of BKK so this made our stops very informative. Although BKK is a busy city with lots of traffic we felt absolutely safe on our cycles. Morley constantly gave us instructions on keeping away from the cars and sometimes stopped them so that we could cross the roads on our bikes. Even when the trip was over Morley used his personal GRAB to organize a taxi for our return to the hotel.

This is one serious outfit. It may be a little pricey but you don’t want to sidestep on safety and customer service in BKK.
Take the opportunity and use them to see BKK from a different perspective away from the malls and the tourists!

Great fun cycle tour with friends through Bangkok's alleys and streets. Exposed us to parts of Bangkok we never would have found on our own and gave us a tiny window into everyday life in Bangkok. Our guide was fantastic answering all our questions patiently and looked after us.

SpiceRoads put together a fantastic 1-day custom tour that really gave my wife and I the chance to see many parts of Bangkok within a limited time frame. The first half had us biking outside the city in the Bangkachao area, on elevated concrete walkways in a jungle-like setting, which I highly recommend. A highlight was stopping at the Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market for some tasty snacks. The second half was biking the back roads of Chinatown and the Grand Palace area, with a visit to Wat Pho and the Reclining Buddha. The tour finished with a (restful) river cruise of the Bangkok canals. A very full day of touring that may not be for everyone, but we had a really great time.
