Another great tour for those interested in learning more about Nepal's ancient history, culture, and architecture. Note, you do have to pay an entrance fee, but it is well worth it. Bhaktapur is one of Kathmandu's sister cities, so it is a great complement to those who have explored Kathmandu and Patan - you will notice some structures are found across all three cities, legacy of the former kingdoms. Bhaktapur was one of my favourite stops, as there is lots to see in terms of different sites and architectural styles. In addition to seeing the Royal palace, Durbar square, and temples, you get to walk through the market area to the Potter's Square (with an opportunity to try a pottery wheel if you are so inclined), visit a traditional paper factory (great for souvenirs), and learn about thanka artistry. Our tour was exceptionally lucky as the day we went coincided with a Newari holiday, so the streets were festive and full of people bringing offerings to the temples.
Heading on to Panauti, you have the opportunity to eat lunch in a traditional home (additional charge). The food was delicious, comforting, and plentiful! The woman was incredibly generous, offering multiple portions, and the experience gives great insight into the culture and Nepali people. I highly recommend everyone take advantage of this lunch experience to support local livelihoods!
Panauti is a small but interesting historic town. Entrance to the small museum is not included, but reasonable, interesting, and supports the maintenance of the sites and preservation of history.
I immensely enjoyed this tour, which I thought was made so memorable by my tour guide, Shruti. She is knowledgeable, friendly, and makes the sites come alive. I highly recommend any tour that she leads.

We had an incredible journey with our intelligent and sweet guide Sagar Ale Magar and safe driver Sunil. We saw snowy peaks, misty temples in the sky, and rich cities full of astonishing art. Panauti's winding streets, temples, river, and bouncy bridge were so fun to explore. Then we paid extra for a trip to Namo Buddha (thank you for being so accommodating!) We enjoyed the rich history of Buddhism in the hills at the monastery. On a clear day the views of the Lantang Mountains are breathtakingly close. We went back down towards the Kathmandu valley and stopped through the stunning Bhaktapur temple squares, full of lovely shops, eateries, and intricate wooden carvings on nearly every doorway and window. It's clear why this was once the capital. Our drive back to Thamel was blessed with a view of the mountains basking in an alpin glow of the setting sun. I would take this tour over and over again! Thank you!

We took a local bus out to Bhaktapur, an ancient city that was once the capital of Nepal. Although there was a great deal of damage sustained in the 2015 earthquake in Bhaktapur and the surrounding area, the city is an amazing example of the beautiful architecture in Nepal of yesteryear. Bhaktapur is a UNESCO World Heritage site and restoration is being completed on of many buildings and temples to restore the city to its former glory. A number of the buildings that were destroyed in the earthquake have been restored and look simply magnificent. A great day visit to experience an ancient city.

Dear Guest, Greetings & Namaste!!! We truly appreciate your great review!!! Bhaktapur has always been known for the unique architecture. The 2015 earthquake destroyed nearly a quarter of this ancient city. Still we can see the earthquake effects, but we do have construction work in progress. Hope, the construction work will be completed very soon. Thank you once again for sharing your experience with us. Best Regards,

This tour was exceptional - a great way to get out of the bustle of Kathmandu and visit some quieter places with deep-rooted Nepali history. Our driver (Urmile) and our tour guide (Junu) were safe and professional. Junu is from Bhaktapur and, with excellent English, detailed the history and current life of Bhaktapur and Panauti. I highly recommend this tour.

Dilip is a very sympathetic and knowledgeable tour guide with many insider's tips, e.g. for interesting/special Panauti places (only few tourists get to see these) or for the best Juju Dhau Joghurt in town. Reliable transport with cold water available. Highly recommended trip for tourists interested in Nepal/Bhaktapur/Panauti.

I had the most incredible time on my tours with Royal Mountain Travel. My tour guide (and the tour company itself) were both professional, extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and hospitable. I loved both towns so much. They were deep and rich with history, so fascinating to learn about them and the rich culture. I loved the food, the local arts and crafts, the temples and architecture...all of it! Just a wonderful country in general but this tour company and my tour guide really made it that much more wonderful! I cannot wait to go back and do another tour with them!

Guides are a must to understand this fascinating medieval city. As in most UNESCO sites, street vendors are as thick as soup. No to them means maybe, if they persist enough, so just ignore them. If you buy one trinket, they will be on you like locusts for more. Public toilets are filthy. Carry your own toilet paper. You probably do not want to sit down, so try to go before you get there.

I took 2 day tours with Royal Mountain Travel:
- 1st day trip was "Temples and Stupas Tour in Kathmandu Valley"
- 2nd day trip was "Day Trip to Bhaktapur and Panauti from Kathmandu"

Both trips were excellent - the guide Anish is very knowledgeable. You can ask any question about Nepali culture, history or Hindu/Bhuddist religion - he will have the answer. I also really liked that the entrance fees and lunch is excluded, you pay by yourself and this is super honest on their side. I highly recommend these tours, you will have a good time and be taken care of!

This was a really fun day out of Kathmandu. Very friendly guide and driver. Day included a stop at a ceramics place, ancient temples and sights of Bhaktapur, then a delicious lunch in a local’s house. Really enjoyable day and great value for money. Flexible relaxed guide.
